Second generation references are when somebody thinks something is brand new, when it's actually a modern remake of a classic (usually well-known).

examples:

"Can't Help Fallin' In Love" original- Elvis, remake- A Teens

"American Pie" original- Don Mclean, remake (aka abridged version)- Madonna

It's a big running joke in my family.

Heh... A*Teens do a lot of that. I think it's great to bring old songs to a new generation. They've sworn off covers now though. :(

They've alltogether, in the course of 4 albums covered 20 songs. (Out of the 52 songs they've released, that's a lot of covers... 38% of their songs have been covers! :eek: )
