Your Favorite Pre-Trip Moments

I'm sort of taking this thread in a different direction.

I was thinking more ..One of my favorite pre-trip moments...... not what we usually do before we leave.

Last December I had told my parents that for Christmas I was going to take them on a trip. They were told to pack a bag for 5 days and be at my house the evening before we were to leave. They didnt know where they were going (they thought New York City as we had talked about it in the past) we hopped in the car and my Dad said how long will it take us to drive....(we live in the DC area)...at that moment we handed my parents a little gift bag with a clue to where we were headed.

It had a golden Mickey Ears antenna ball and pins for their lanyards. My Mom started to cry and my Dad said ..were driving???...I said yeah 15 min. to the airport, will be at WDW in 2 1/2 hours!!!

We scrambled to unload some of the heavy warm clothes in their luggage they had packed for cold NYC and laughed the whole way onto the plane. Lets just say one of my best pre-trip moments since my first visit to WDW in 1975 when my parents took me!:D

This concerns the trip down rather than the time before leaving. The summer after our highschool graduation we took a roadtrip down to Disney. We decided to listen to nothing but Disney songs on the way there. For the first two hours it was great and we couldn't have been more psyched for Disney but on a 20+ hour roadtrip it can get alittle tiresome. I suggest avoiding this idea until within a couple hours of Disney World.

The last time I drove to Disney, we did the exact same thing. Both my girlfriend (fiance now) and I combined had enought disney music to last the whole 26 hour trip without repeating any cd's lol  Both of us are such Disney music freaks we actually made it all the way without listening to anything else...

Alrighty then...

Back a few years ago, my wife and I decided to forgo Christmas and instead take our 3 year (soon to be 4) old daughter to WDW in January. In order to make sure that we had enough cash, we made this decision in July. Now, in my family, we usually congregate at my parents every Sunday for a swim and a BBQ during the summer. So I mentioned this to my mom...

Only to find out that my dad was planning, that very day, to announce he was taking everybody to WDW that September. This included my parents, the three of us, and my sister and her husband. Basically in the matter of minutes, my countdown timer dropped about 16 weeks (and my bank account screamed in joy).

Going to WDW was an annual tradition growing up...not bad for us living in Toronto. As my sister and I got older, I kept going down with my friends (I have 3 Disney-freak friends, if you can believe it) when we could afford it, but my sister stopped going.

My parents' return from this...being able to see the look on my daughter's face (their first grandchild) when she passed under the railway bridge...and wouldn't you know...Mickey was just starting character photos (we were first in line).
