I was on a business trip in Salt Lake City and spent the weekend by myself in Park City skiing. Beautiful town and was a fun mountain. The lift is right in the middle of the main drag.

Vegas is great, but you said you want to go away alone and Vegas you need to bring friends or make them to make the most out of it imo. If you want a gambling/pool/drinking break there Red Rock is a great place to visit.

I took a trip a long time ago to Chincoteague and second that recommendation.

My big 2014 trip is hopefully going to be Yellowstone. Going to fly into Jackson Hole, rent a car and drive from there making a lot of stops along the way. I'm trying to book a night or two at the Old Faithful Inn so right now its just a matter of actually confirming who is willing to commit to this trip on whether I can book a room before they sell out. Not that many dates open for September next year.

DH and I spent about 1.5 weeks in Yellowstone and Grand Teton. We went just after Labor Day so we could skip the crowds and get slightly lower prices. Even just flying into Jackson, WY was breathtaking...just amazing mountains and miles and miles of pristine land. We had so many amazing hikes ... from the stunning landscape, the waterfalls, the mountains, the thermal features, the animals, etc. Even the lodging was interesting...stayed in 4 different spots inside Yellowstone - from hotels to cabins - just to change things ups. You're really cut off from the media, etc. out there- but it's amazing how much that helps you recharge your batteries. The food's also decent up there. The weather was varied...first half of our trip was warm (for WY/MT), but a front went through and we actually had snow for a couple of days - in early/mid September! :D It's not the easiest place to get to, but it's worth it IMHO.

I would say Disneyland/SoCal, but I haven't been in a few years now. I'll go with Atlanta since I visit so frequently. I love the Atlanta area, and we always get in a Braves or Falcons game in.

Are you saying that you want us to tell you where to go?

sounds like a job for @PhotoDave219!
I need ideas. Can't make up my mind. And I really want to go alone. My sister is my favorite traveling companion, but I've had enough of her for a while. Plus, I want to just go...and be...and not have anyone else to worry about or behave in front of, lol.

Also love hearing about other people's fun vacations. :)

And Dave has never had a problem telling me where to go!

A week, I think. Maybe more.

I am kind of kicking around the idea of going to the Canyons, Hoover Dam, a night in Vegas (just to see it) and (since it's close and I am a fangurl) Disneyland. That might take more than a week, though.

I never cruised. N with my luck, it would sink...and that could end up sucking.

You can do it in a week, but you'll be pretty busy. Fly into Vegas and rent a car there, then drive out to Zion or Bryce canyon (I love them both).Spend a couple of days there, then head down to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. From there either drive back to Vegas or out to CA depending on how much time you have.

Oh, and take me with you!

I really love Southern California. Last time all we did was Disneyland, but the time before that we did San Diego Zoo and some of the beaches. Really pretty area, lots to do.

Also love Hilton Head Island, SC. It's really laid-back, relaxing, planned out so you don't have neon signs or anything. We go over Christmas break and sometimes during the summer. During the winter we chill, bike ride, walk the beach, sometimes walk the nature trails, and in the summer we hit the beach and pool. We stay at Disney's resort using our DVC points. Though it's definitely not what you'd expect from Disney (there's only one gift shop in the entire place, no meet-and-greets, you have to look to spot characters, but same kind of "feel").

This is sad, but I've lived in Baltimore my whole life and have never done the National Aquarium, Fort McHenry, or DC, though I've been over to Annapolis several times. Annapolis is really pretty. We don't do the naval academy, but we do some of the boat tours and historical stuff over there, plus SHOPPING!

I think that every vacation is my favorite directly after it occurs. It is therefore very difficult to pinpoint any one destination as a favorite because they have all possessed unique qualities that have made them enjoyable. What I can say is that, contrary to popular opinion on this forum, WDW does not stand alone for me.

Siesta Key FL. It's not one of "the keys", it's just over a bridge from Sarasota. White, powdered sugar sand, and gorgeous sunsets! It's very laid back and relaxed there. Captain Kurt's has THE BEST clam chowder!!

Colonial Williamsburg is still one of my favorites. i went to William and Mary in Williamsburg, and for four straight years I had the blessing of having Colonial Williamsburg as my front yard and never got tired of it. You can walk in the footsteps of the founding fathers, yet still be near modern conveniences.

I go back every Homecoming and Christmastime. I especially like when I get to stay there or within walking distance, so that I can walk around there at night-time with friends or famliy.
