I was driving today and on a local radio station I heard this thing that was going on "sponsored by Disney Parks and the Year of A Million Dreams". Basically there was a CM who called some random family (no idea how they were chosen) and after talking to them for a while about random stuff (their family, how they spend time together, etc.) gave them a free trip to WDW (park tickets, hotel- the whole package deal)...... And all of this was somehow through the radio station??? So how does that work? I didn't think they did much for the YOAMD outside the parks? And why would it be through a local radio station in AZ? Or was it something like the Ellen D. thread where they basically bought the rights to "give away a dream for YOAMD"?? Has anyone else heard this? I mean I've heard radio stations give away Disney trips, but they said this one was actually sponsored by Disney and the YOAMD.....?? And to have an actual CM involved?

They do the same thing at one of the radio stations in the studio where I work. To be honest, I never really gave it much thought or looked in to it. I'll see if I can get more info about it at work this week.

Obviously it caught your eye that Disney would take the trouble to create such a relationship with a random radio station all the way across the country in AZ. However, chances are this particular radio station is owned by a large corporation like Clearchannel, Lincoln Financial, or , which own stations all across the country.

Let's say for example that Disney enters a working relationship with Lincoln Financial Media. By doing so, they could easily run a YOAMD promotion in numerous Lincoln Financial Stations all across the country. It's not widely known that a very small fraternity of corporations own the vast majority of radio stations in the US. Very few stations are privately owned or owned by small companies.

It's a weekly thing they are doing every Monday on the radio where a WDW CM calls a random family and awards a trip. It is basically a more interesting/exciting way to promote YOAMD and it's done by Disney, not the stations themselves.

I heard this last night for the first time. How do they pick the people that they call? I thought this was kinda cool, is it just random. out of the phone directory, or from mail in entries?

Thanks for this information. It has me wondering how "random" this award is - or any of them, perhaps?
