alright... I'm looking at the Disney press release, and on there it says it'll be the tallest mountain in the state of Florida.

That having been said, the tallest point in Florida is 345 feet (near Lakewood in northeast Walton County- source: State of Florida).

any ideas? comments...

lets open this up for discussion

That 345 foot measurement refers to the distance above sea level--not a mountain/hill height. Note that the Magic Kingdom is a little over 100 feet above sea level. We would measure the height of a hill from the base to the top, not from sea level to the top--in that sense, EVEREST will be the tallest--not necessarily the highest point in Florida (although if its base is more than 146 feet above sea level, it will be), but the highest mountain.

Now that there is a no-fly zone, they won't have to have an airplane light, will they? :veryconfu

Interesting!

Can anyone confirm that if a no fly zone is imposed, then building exceeding 200ft don't have to have an airplane light?

Is the no fly zone temporary, or permanent? :D

No-fly zones are considered temporary, but they can last a long, long time.

Correct... so the red blinking light is a must :) (200ft or more)

If we are talking manmade structures, i'm quite sure that there are office buildings in downtown miami that are taller, for instance i know the four seasons is over 200meters tall, much more than the 200 feet of EE.

I think they were referring to manmade mountains.

They are referring to ANY mountain or hill. There are none in Florida above 190 feet in height. None. The 345 foot measurement is above sea level.

Talk about picking something apart :)... (I know the feeling... if its not in black in white, and 100% clear, I'm clueless...) ... anyways...

I was wondering about the no-fly thing, too... thanks for the info, aylenofan86... (and everyone else)

Let me clarify something,

ITS NOT A NO FLY ZONE, its a Temp. Flight Restriction, at and below 3000ft, within a three miles of the center of the seven seas lagoon, and this rule does not aply to arivals in and out of the MCO area that are talking with ATC. Only A/C not talking to ATC, below 3000ft are restricted. Above that, you can fly over the parks.

Hope this helps.

that means that it's a no fly zone...

if you can't fly over it... then it's a no fly zone.

Either way, you're not going to get shot down if you violate it.

Now DC, thats a No Fly Zone.....

Back to the thread, Tallest Mountain in Florida? Well, since Florida doesnt have any naturally occuring mountain ranges like the Rockies or the Appalacians or the Andes or Alps or the whatnot, it sounds like a marketing thing. I dont care if its the tallest whatever.... But it does sound like it will dominate the landscape, with a foreboding and awe inspring presence.

All in all, cant wait to see it....

I could swear I remember hearing that the three tallest mountains in Florida were all located within the MK. Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Space Mountain, but not necessarily in that order.

And yes, it's ANY mountain or hill, not just man-made.

I believe that Big Thunder is currently the tallest mountain in Florida. Splash is probably a close second. That Space is third surprises me a little, but it just goes to confirm what I always say. Florida is FLAT!!!

Well, it would suprise me too, but I'm pretty sure they're counting the spires on top of the actual building. Those look like they reach up at least another 30 feet, if not more.
