Yet another entertainment cut at AK

Perhaps not all entertainment costs the same? Some less than others?

I'm not the smurt one here though...
You're right, H1-B talent from Africa is usually much cheaper than domestic talent. Thank you for making my point.

Isn't one equity and one not? I don't know if foamheads are paid the same as equity but I seem to remember thay are not.
I think the DJ and the lead dancer (non-character) are equity, plus at least two "on stage" fur characters and however many back stage replacement fur characters and at least two handlers who are not. So equity or not, you're adding a lot more headcount with a dance party than you are with a three-person act.

A real shame more cuts are occurring, never heard of them before but having just watched the video, I’m not sure they will be missed. Not a great show by any stretch in my opinion at least.

Aren't the operating hours of Animal Kingdom more than they were 2 or 3 years ago? AK park hours 10/14/15 were 9-6. AK today is 9-8.
In the past 2 or 3 years they've opened a new billion+ dollar land, added a built-from-scratch nighttime spectacular, and spent millions of dollars upgrading other park facilities, all with the specific intention of keeping guests around after dusk. Yet the park is only open for about an hour after sunset. That's hardly a ringing endorsement.

It's a classic "penny wise, pound foolish" scenario that seems to plague Disney these days. Sure, they're saving some operations money by shutting things down early, but the extra operations costs are negligible in comparison to what they just spent getting those things ready for nighttime crowds. It's a shortsighted approach developed by someone who has little understanding or passion for the theme park experience.

I think calling dance parties “entertainment” is a real stretch. It’s taped music and randomly gyrating costumed characters. There really is nothing “performative” - ie, directed at spectators - about it. You’d probably be closer if you called it an “attraction.”

And honestly, does anyone other then very young children and their parents enjoy those parties? And, even more honestly, how much do even very young children enjoy them compared to, say, a dark ride? It seems likely that the people who enjoy them the most are WDW executives.

Thank you! LOL

The only thing that makes me give them a pass is if they use rare characters, and they often don't so ... I don't mind it here and there, but it's becoming overused.

IDK, i read the article, doesn't seem to be a 'mess' at all. One attraction only closed 15 minutes before park close. A couple maybe 30 minutes before. The only closure I've seen so far is Rafiki's, and that's temporary.

All is good. There is still tons of entertainment to be seen and experienced at AK.

Combine all that with the shortening of extra magic hours (to 45 minutes) and the outright closure of the train/rafiki's and they have a point.

Except my point is correct. If people want to make the argument that live entertainment is being downgraded or made worse, fine, make that argument. But people are making the argument that these are cuts for financial reasons. Cutting one act and adding other acts is not a net cut.

What have they replaced this with, oh smart one?

That's already been answered:

Those street acts keep coming and going at DAK.

Picking a day in mid-November, DAK has street entertainment:
  • Winged Encounters, 6 shows
  • Burudika, 5 shows
  • Pandora Drummers, 11 shows
  • Pandora Utility Suit, 10 shows
  • Tam Tam Drummers, 7 shows
  • Viva Gaia, 7 shows
  • Donald's Dino-Bash
But muh Narrative (TM)!

I thought Winged Encounters ended. Glad it didn't. Also is Viva Gaia the harpist?
