Yellow tagged luggage

I had a not so good experience with our yellow tagged luggage. I might have missed the 3 hours delay notice, but arriving at the hotel last night at 10p and not getting our luggage after 12.3a wasn't a good experience at all.

Now come to think of it the delay does make sense but they could have done better with the distribution system, but I have to warn you all that you won't be getting your luggage straight away, there are 3 hours delay from the time you arrive at the airport (we landed at 8.20p so that made it close to 4 hours). They said some people may get them faster though.

I guess this isn't a big issue if you arrive during the day where you can just go to the park etc.. but if you are arriving very late like us (after our flight got delayed a few hours) all you want to do is take a shower, get a proper rest and be ready for some actions the next day.

The system is set up now that if you're scheduled to arrive after 10 PM they ask you to retrieve your own baggage precisely because guests complained they were getting their luggage delivered at ridiculous times at night. If your flights are delayed they can't control that, but you can. When you arrive at your resort, call Bell Services and ask them to hold your luggage until you call them in the morning.

I'm sorry your experience was less than ideal, but the system is set up for and works for the vast majority of people. When your flights were delayed it threw a spanner in the works.

Sorry to hear you had a problem, but the 3-hour delay is mentioned in two different places in the DME booklet you get with the luggage tags...

And as Monty said, if you're arriving late and want to go to bed, just tell Bell Services to hold your luggage until the morning.

Yup. It was my fault, I missed it :(

Happened with us as well, the rest of the family were like "how is waiting 3 hours 'magical'?"

Of course, we got there pretty late as well, should have read about the delay.

I was one of the very first guests to use DME back in May 2005, and I knew about the 3-hour thing way back then. Then, as now, it's printed right there in the instructions.

But read it again. It doesn't say 3 hours from when you land, it says 3 hours from when you check-in to your resort. So someone who landed at 8:20 a.m. probably got off the airplane itself around 8:30 a.m.; with a 70-minute average time from airplane exit to resort drop-off, that maybe put you at the resort around 9:40 p.m., and maybe check-in by 9:45 or 9:50 p.m.

This means that Disney would say to expect your bags by about 12:45 a.m. Getting your bags around 12:30 a.m. puts you exactly into the area that Disney promised.

As to it "not being magical" ... in my opinion, the magical part is not having to waste time at baggage claim. I love that.

To be self-protective, every time I fly ANYWHERE I pack our carry-ons with our needs for the first 24 hours of our trip just in case the airline delays our checked bags. Since I do this anyway, I'm more than prepared to get my bags 3 hours after I check-in at my Disney resort.

I don't know if you've ever had bags delayed by your airline, but after it happens to you once, at least in my case, I adapted by packing my carry-ons so that a future similar delay wouldn't affect the start of my vacaction.

Exactly, almost no hassle at all (although, the DME shuttle had us waiting over an hour until we left).

It was more in context though, and this time I go down I'll be sure to be patient and not frustrated.

I learned this the hard way, also. Now I have clean underclothes, and a change of clothing (or at least a clean top) when I fly.

I put them into a 2 gallon zip-loc, squeeze all of the air out, and it fits nicely.

We do the same thing. And as much of a nuisance as packing that little zip-lock with liquids for your carry-on can be, it's well worth it the first time your luggage vacations somewhere without you.
