Yak & Yeti table service or quick service???

Well, Yak and Yeti is back on my schedule. Originally, I had it for early evening (approx 6:00pm) but it bumped up close to my pre-paid Illuminations Dessert Party, so I cancelled it.

Then I scheduled Rain Forest for Breakfast, expecting Flame Tree to be open for lunch--it's not although I could get the food elsewhere.

Then I on a whim, I looked for Y&Y for lunch and the only thing that came up was 3:00 p.m. I decided to take it as my one big meal of the day. Besides, breakfast at Rain Forest is probably nothing special and the 3:00 pm meal is just about the right time of day to hold me over until the dessert party. Oh, and my FP+ for Expedition Everest (and maybe several single riders) is scheduled for the hour before.

We have eaten both QS and TS Yak and Yeti and, in my opinion, the QS doesn't even compare! I loved the sit down meal, the theming was really cool and the food was good! I am *not* a fan of of T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe food, so I was surprised as well to see it was owned by the same company.

I have only tried the TS option, but I like it. The Mango Pie is my go to dessert.

I don't know how you are with flavors, but the Malaysian Seafood Curry is really good. Not a strong curry flavor at all. It is similar in flavor to a well prepared Tom Kha Gai. Yes it is a soup and we don't always think of eating soup in hot weather but this is some good eating. Also the Lo Mein is good. And yes the Mango Pie is simply delicious.

I will say I was a bit surprised/disappointed to find out that Yak & Yeti is a Landry's owned concept (the same company that does Rain Forest Café, T-Rex Café, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co amongst many, MANY other concepts) as opposed to being something completely Disney. I guess the disappointing part was the small distractions like the "Yak & Yeti" logo on the drink dispenser in the bar and on the carpet in the lobby and the "Landry's" table top adverts. Not anything enough to ruin the experience, I guess I had just always assumed it was all Disney. On the plus side, I did find that portions at Yak & Yeti were significantly larger than portions at many of the other "Disney" table service restaurants. For example, at a lot of the "Disney" table service restaurants, the appetizers were typically too small to share, but at Yak & Yeti, I feel I could have easily shared my appetizer with at least one other person. But make no mistake, despite my initial "disappoint" (if you could call it that), it is still one of my favorite places to eat at Disney!

Yah, I was a bit put off when we first dined here upon discovering it is a Landry's operation because I am no fan of Landrys. Find them overpriced and food and service underwhelming for the most part. However we have been pleased with the majority of the items we have tried off the TS menu and some have actually been home runs. I wouldn't endorse all the items on the menu, but the duck was excellent, the Malaysian Seafood Curry, and the Lo Mein have all been hits. Oh and my DGD10 says the kids chicken is the best she's had and the kids love the white rice.
