Yachtsman vs Shula’s

There’s no doubt that Shula’s can be pricey. But Disney is just like anything else in life in the sense that you get what you pay for.

I agree that Shula's has great food but by my previous post you can probably tell that I'm annoyed they don't accept Magic Bands as payment and Disney doesn't really tell you that before you drink the Kool-Aid and trust it. This is why DW and I have "officially" been boycotting all Swolphin restaurants until they step-up and conform to the rest of the Disney Bubble. As a Disney guest, I feel that I shouldn't have to understand the fine print of 3rd party contract negotiations to know if I can get a discount or how I can pay...if you're in the bubble you should act like it for nothing other than a cohesive guest experience!

Granted, one couple like us boycotting Swolphin doesn't make a bit of difference but it sure feels good to express my opinion on this public forum. :)

I agree that this would optimal, and feel strongly that WDW strives for that kind of seamless guest experience. At the same time, it's just not reasonable when it comes to resorts owned by outside interests, in terms of accounting.

I fault Disney for not requiring a seamless integration for any outside interest doing business on their property and inside their bubble (this includes park kiosks as well). Not saying that a seamless integration is simple and inexpensive for that outside interest...but should be considered part of doing business inside the bubble. And for every one outsider that feels it's cost prohibitive I'd bet there are several chomping at the bit to have that opportunity.

In this case, it's really not a matter of the costs involved, or inconvenience to Disney or the hotel operators. I promise, you cannot imagine the complexity involved in what you're asking for. The reason is that the bands are not serving as an extension of your payment method. Purchases made on them are tied to your room. An enterprise system is used to record these transactions in a central database. The data is used not only for internal reporting, but is used for external reporting and taxation. As such, US GAAP must adhered to, in addition to increasingly stringent Sarbanes-Oxley auditing standards.

I mean they can make Shula's on the Dining Plan, but they should charge 3 table service credits for it. It's literally the most expensive restaurant on property and you can easily spend $300 for dinner for two if you order a few glasses of wine, etc.

I’ll be honest, I cannot believe that Shula’s not accepting magic band payment is such a big deal to some. So let me get this straight, instead of scanning a band on your wrist, you actually have to reach all the way into your wallet and pull out a credit card. That very same credit card which was going to be charged if the magic band was used in the first place. I can think of worse troubles in the world.

What if you actually bought into Disney's hype about "traveling lighter" and didn't bring a credit card with you. The big deal to me is that Disney doesn't warn you about this at all.

It’s not a Disney owned resort. That has never been a secret to me and I didn’t think it was a secret to many other people, especially those who regularly post here. So I don’t expect the Dolphin to have all the perks that Disney owned resorts have. And before I went to the Dolphin, I researched what they did and did not offer. The fact that they don’t accept payment via magic bands was not “fine print” to me, but rather was simply common knowledge. Anyway, now you know so you can just bring a credit card with you if you want to eat at the best steakhouse on property.
