Hello All!

My hubby and I have reservations for the Yachtsman on our upcoming trip (24 days!). We will be using the dining plan, has anyone eaten here before with the dining plan? Do only the entrees come with sides and you have to pay additionally for sides with any of their steaks?

Also, does anyone have a bar/drink menu or an idea of what those prices are like? Most places I have looked online only show signature stuff that is listed as $17-$18... not sure if that is per glass or what... If that is the case, can anyone give their opinion on whether or not this place is worth all the extra money?

We ate at Cali Grill while on our honeymoon, and that seemed (2 table credits+drinks+tip) for a our one fancy dinner per trip. Is this on the same level?

We have eaten at both California Grill and Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Personally I preferred Yachtsman. Sides were not included, but they were large enough to be shareable. The food was really good. It was less fancy and larger portions than California Grill. The restaurant felt less formal than California Grill. Obviously you miss the view which is a major draw of California Grill. Both restaurants would be high up on my list to return to again.

If you like steak Yachtsman is one of the best to do on the dining plan. This time around we're going to try The Boathouse for a change. I can't recall drinks prices but the cocktails menu was the same one you get everywhere and there was a fairly extensive wine list. Not as much so as California Grill but certainly it to be sniffed at.

I think Yachtsman is in the top 10 of expensive restaurants in WDW so probably safe to assume drinks will be more expensive also. Did you look at the menu on all ears.net? We ate there a few years ago but we didn't use the DDP sorry can't help with what is included with your meal.

To be honest, I don't see the value in using two dining credits for a restaurant that "only just" makes it into the signature category. I basically think any Signature needs to be at least twice as good as going to 'Ohana - essentially that is what you could do with the credits - go to 'Ohana twice.

Yachtsman is one that makes this short list for me. Not many of the Signatures do though, in my opinion. We usually do only one signature per fortnight vacation, it eats into the value of the dining plan otherwise.

Yachtsman is definitely upscale in terms of food like Cali Grill. "Worth it " in terms of credits depends on what you order (obviously the Japanese Wagyu Beef will have a humongous surcharge attached to it) but it was definitely worth it and to us, rivals in food. Cali Grill may seem like a more exhilarating experience because views, but Yachtsman is a classy, no-frills, just serious about food joint.

We went with the DDP in Feb, and our waiter told us that we were able to swap a dessert for an app, so that's what my husband did as he's not a sweet eater. I got the Chilean sea bass and whatever steak he got came with bone marrow...get it!! It was soooo good!

Just a question, not necessarily aimed only at you, but I've noticed many on this site refer others to allears for menus. I've been using the menus here on wdwmagic for my last several trips and haven't had any issue. Is there a reason you don't use this site for the menus?

Yachtsman is, imho, one of the top 3 restaurants on the property ( along with Flying Fish and Jiko, though Boathouse and Tiffins have certainly moved up in my list of favorites). They are usually flexible on the dining plan within reason. The drinks are expensive but they are not weak for certain. I like the menu at Cali and think its a great restaurant, but, Yachtsman is above it when it comes to the overall atmosphere and quality of food.

Yes, I felt California Grill was slightly on the fussy side. The food was good but it was more pretentious and relied upon presentation more so. Yachtsman was simply really high quality, well prepared dishes, that all tasted great. Everything was superb.

Entrees do come with sides unless that changed that within the last few months. They have other sides that you can purchase as well.
When we went, we were also given the option to get an app instead of a side on DDP. Which I would recommend doing, then grabbing dessert at Ample Hills if you have room left!

I personally prefer Yachtsman over Cali Grill. But yes, they are both upscale.

I'm going back to 2014 since I was at Yachtsman so it's great to know sides are included on the DDP now. They are definitely great.

Probably because I've been a fan of allears.net for a very long time, longer than I've been on this website. Maybe next time I'll check here for menus. Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks all! I am sure I am not alone when I say I really over think my "special" dining (expensive) picks for our trips. Hubby and I just read through all of your comments and did a little research and we are for sure giving the Yachtsman a try!
