My wife and our sons are planning a trip about a year out. We came down to 4 hotels between us...and my wife's first choice was the Yacht Club, a place neither of us has stayed before.

Any thoughts on the Yacht Club from those who have stayed there?

We have stayed there three times and have two more upcoming stays booked (one beginning June 30 and the other over Christmas). We have stayed at all three Epcot Resorts, plus the Swan, and the YC is buy far our favorite. It is a bit quieter in the lobby than BC, because BC had Cape May which adds traffic. YOu share the pool with BC, which is considered by many to be the top pool in WDW. It is very close to Epcot and HS. We always walk to both; however, a boat is available for both. The walk to Epcot is less than 10 minutes. To HS about 20. Our kids (10 and 8) never have a problem (summer or Christmas) making the walk. The staff is great, although all WDW resorts can say that. Overall, its a great resort. Have fun. You'll love it!

Thank you for your thoughts on the YC. We are staying there in October for the first time. It will be our 25th visit to WDW and our 40th anniversary. Sooooooo looking forward to YC. thanks again

Two stays, two different experiences.

Summer 2011 ~ Greeted outside main entrance by name by a friendly CM who escorted us inside, checked us in, and walked us to our room (we were not club level). Our "garden view" room on the 4th floor (I checked, it was indeed "garden view") had a full balcony and faced Epcot, so we could see the fireworks from Illuminations. Room location was very convenient, near the elevator which was closest to the lobby, so the walk to Stormalong Bay, boat dock or Marketplace inside the Beach Club (for breakfast and snacks) was minimal. We enjoyed it so much it led us to book again, requesting an upper floor room in the general vicinity of where we were located.

Summer 2012 ~ No one greeted us upon arrival. We were given a room on the first floor (instead of the requested upper level) and it was located at the end of the hallway at the end of the furthest wing of the building, resulting in the longest possible walk to get anywhere. In fact, it was closer for us to come and go through an exterior door than to walk through the interior hallways. We probably should have requested a room change, but we aren't complainers unless the situation is truly intolerable. We decided to endure the extra exercise for the 2 nights we were there. Had our stay been longer, a room change would have been requested.

The rain also dampened our visit, so we did not get to use Stormalong Bay (a main reason for staying at YC).

Sadly I have only stayed at the Yacht Club once but that was all it took to become my favorite resort (at least of the ones I've stayed at). The decor feels richer and more sophisticated than the Beach Club but reaps the same benefits.

The Epcot resorts are fantastic with respect to location - walking to both Epcot and DHS is easy and boats are available when you are tired or the weather isn't cooperating. There are plenty of restaurants at either Yacht/Beach or Boardwalk and of course Epcot and World Showcase are right around the corner. The pool, as people say, is possibly the best on property and is like a water park in its own right - definitely take some time to hang out there.

I think you'll really enjoy your stay there wherever your room is located in the resort. Honestly, if Yacht Club had a DVC, we would have likely bought our points there we enjoyed it so much!

What are the other 3 hotels you are considering? What are the ages of youir sons? Have you every stayed at an Epcot Resort?

My boys will be 14 and 9 by the time we go. We go to DisneyWorld all the time, as my family has DVC points. We typically stay at OKW, and then spend an extra few nights at another hotel on property. Last year we stayed at OKW and then at POFQ. We try to stay places we haven't stayed before.

I haven't stayed at any of the Epcot hotels...however, when my family first acquired DVC points, you could swim at any pool on property. So we went to the Beach Club quite a bit for swimming and just to hang out. We usually go by there for Beaches & Cream on nearly every trip.

My first choice was Contemporary..second was Beach Club

Wife was Yacht Club

Older boy's first choice was Beach Club..second was Contemporary

Younger boy's first choice was Boardwalk...second was Beach Club.

Since Beach/Yacht Club came up so much, it just made sense. Me and my boys both thought Yacht Club would be fine since it was so close to Beach Club. I have been in the Yacht Club exactly once in my life...it was to eat at the steakhouse way back when I was in high school.

I'm aware of its advantages...particularly proximity to Epcot and the pools. Was really just curious as to whether anyone had experiences staying there that they could share.

Every WDW Deluxe Resort is nice.

And guests have horror stories for every Deluxe Resort.;)

As @tracyandalex mentions, YC seems less hectic than BC. BC is a bit closer to Epcot. My DW prefers YC simply because she likes the decor more.

If you're going to spend a lot of time at MK, then being able to walk is an important consideration. However, my entire family isn't crazy about either the Contemporary or BLT since they lack the charm of nearly every other Disney Resort. (DW won't even let me buy DVC points at BLT.:() I find the Contemporary and BLT pools boring. Being able to hop Monorail Resorts at night is fun but DW and I prefer the Boardwalk, which is easily accessible from either YC or BC, for leaving the kids in the room and having a little adult time.

My family has never had a bad stay at any of these resorts but we all have our favorites.:)

I hate to be a Debbie Downer :( but we had a rather negative experience at YC...on multiple levels. Much of the problem was staff attitude...between cold to downright rude. However, when I spoke to Disney about it, they reminded me that CMs are rotated between hotels...so the people responsible for this poor level of service likely would be at a different resort during your stay, assuming they are even still with Disney. I wish there were more QS options there as well as neighboring BC. The decor is really a matter of personal preference...I loved it in pictures, but in person - not so much (like I said- personal preference).

Beyond that, something in our room sparked an allergic reaction in DD4 every night which made for a pretty miserable experience. We've never had this problem at any other WDW resort. The room itself was very nice-even though we were practically staying at the Dolphin, having access to Stormalong is great if you plan on pool time, it's very convenient for Epcot and DHS, the bus service was excellent, and you have all kinds of great TS options in and around the resort. We had picked YC b/c DH and I really wanted to pretty much be guaranteed we'd have a balcony...and we did use it and enjoyed having it. So, in that regard, it was worth picking it over BC.

All this being said...we've decided we prefer staying over in the MK area...so that right there is part of the problem; however, if we were to return to that area - say for F&W or F&G -I'd definitely pick Boardwalk. I know we'd miss out on Stormalong, but I actually liked Luna Park in person (yet creepy in pics), liked more of the dining options on that side, and really fell in love with the resort's common areas.

YC is our favorite. We have stayed on club level and standard rooms and you cant go wrong with either. You always feel right in the middle of the magic because you are surrounded by so many fun things, i.e. BW, EPCOT, HS. We love that you can walk right out the lake side of the resort and have so many options right there, especially having EPCOT and HS within walking distance or boat ride on a nice evening. It is relaxing to sit on the beach or boardwalk and enjoy the view, day or night. strolling to EPCOT in the morning with coffee is always a great way to start the day. Nights are even better especially for adults, because the BW is so alive with the music and restaurants and the YC/BC side are calm and relaxing. You will LOVE it.

We will be staying there next month so I will have a full report by then, but I think its great. We visited a bunch of resorts last summer and loved the Yacht Club. The staff was great and someone from the front desk took us on a tour of the hotel and showed us some rooms. There are some good restaurants and its close to Beach Club and Boardwalk so there are tons of things to see in that area. I don't think you can go with wrong with Yacht Club.

That really stinks. We have had so many great experiences with the staff at YC. Sorry you had that!

Just got back from BC, but spent quite a bit of time in YC as well as we had friends staying there. YC was definitely more quiet than BC, but there were also a lot of convention folks there in the lobby. The decor is much more formal than BC as well. We had a fantastic experience with the staff at both resorts, and the pool is amazing. Just my opinion, but the proximity to Epcot and DHS, the ambiance of the boardwalk area at night, and the pool make YC/BC worth every penny. But then we love Epcot!

For the last 5 years we have stayed at BC or BCV (my sister DVC) but I would like to try YC. I love the Captain's Grille restaurant and the Crew Cup Lounge, little pub next to the steak house. The gift shop is also nice, more upscale than the items at BC.

I've booked for June 2014 already. Of course, I've booked at the full rates with no discount at this point.

Two Questions:

1. Any idea when the discounted rates will pop up? I'm guessing I should start looking in January..sound right?

2. Any idea how big the discount is? The full rate is $557/night. Any idea what the discounted rate would be at the Yacht Club?

Thanks in advance for help.

We do this all of the time. Once the rates come out, you just call Disney or your travel agent and they will rebook your room at the new rate (if its available at the discounted rate). Past discount releases dates and their percentages are listed on the mousesavers website. The list goes back several years (release dates and % off).
