Yacht & Beach Club Refurb Status

Does anyone know if they've finished refurbishing all of the rooms at the Yacht and Beach Clubs? I saw some updated pictures of refurbed rooms at the Beach Club (they looked great) but haven't seen any of the Yacht Club, though I've heard people say that they're nice.

Does anyone have any pictures and/or know when they'll be done with both resorts?

Beach Club Resort is finished. Has been for at least a year. Villas might still be getting work done.

Majority of rooms at Yacht Club are done, last I heard a month ago.

Beach Club got an intense dose of Disney Characters thrown into the new carpets and common area decorations. Not a fan---makes a deluxe property look chintzy, I think. Sebastian, Ariel, and Flounder have a strong presence.

Yacht Club remains regal, crisp, and without the Disney Character invasion!!

We checked out a YC room when we were resort hopping at Christmas time. (to look at decorations... not swim :animwink:) We saw a refurbed room and it was gorgeous! Of course I didn't think to take a picture. :brick: Suffice to say that we were impressed enough to book YC for 7 nights in July.

There were photos out there somewhere, b/c I've seen them and they look great. Refurb was very well done. Enjoy it I think Yacht Club is my favorite Resort. :)

I believe we stayed in a refurbished Beach Club room in August of 2008. Sebastian and some Little Mermaid characters were in the carpets outside the guest rooms, but not too blatantly. The wallpaper of the room is rather plain, but in the bathroom area has wallpaper with boats on it, with Hidden Mickeys, which was pretty subtle. I have a few pictures I could post later.

And see, we felt the character invasion was TOO much and wouldn't hurry a trip back to Beach Club as a Resort. Yacht Club remained stately, Beach Club just feels "dumbed down" and not as regal with bright Disney Characters incorporated into the decorations.

How do Sebastian, Flounder, and Ariel have anything to do with "the seaside charm of the New England coastside of the 1880s." I felt like we were "at Disney." Post refurb, it never transported us to another time/place, like it had pre refurb. Characters are fine, but this was just too much for our tastes.

You do raise up a valid point, the proliferation of characters is a put off-putting. Having never stayed at the Yacht Club, I cannot compare so perhaps the Beach Club really is "dumbed down". Personally I didn't find it too glaring, but that's just my opinion. While The Little Mermaid characters seem out of place once I read that description, when I was walking through the hotel I didn't really think about it. They seemed to contribute to the whole nautical theme.

Having said that, here are some pictures from our room in August 2008 (and currently the Beach Club is our favorite resort )

Don't get me wrong, Beach Club is a great Resort and the refurbed rooms look top notch. But the overall feel of the resort shifted with the Little Mermaid characters.

Ditto for Nemo at Caribbean Beach.

Yacht Club is by far our favorite.

Was Mermaid added anywhere else besides the carpets?

And don't forget the Fab 5 in the new tile installed at the Grand Floridian.

By the way, hello from Central Jersey! We've visited OC yearly for a while now...mostly for Johnson's popcorn. :slurp:

This is a thread of Jersey people... I actually like the "character invasion" to a certain extent - but I've also never stayed at a deluxe resort, this trip to YC in July will be our first.

As much as I want to stay in a deluxe hotel that makes me feel as though I'm somewhere else, I always like a touch of Disney where it fits. It seems like they did both resorts really nicely with the refurb - the new bedding is a huge upgrade.

This thread is confirming what I already kind of knew - I much prefer the look of the rooms at the YC. The BC rooms though nice, are kind of boring. The beds and colors of the YC are much more interesting. We switched from YC to BC because the more family inviting atmosphere that many talk about, but now I'm thinking that may have been a mistake. That and the fact that all the YC rooms have full balconies is seriously making me considering switvhing back to YC. :veryconfu

We have never found the YC to be uninviting for families. We stayed BK (before kids :)) and AK. The BC is a little louder, so maybe that's what gives it the more family-friendly appearance, but we've never felt any difference between the two in that respect. We like to head over to the marketplace for breakfast and to refill our mugs, but we always prefer heading back to the YC to relax.

The room refurb was pretty great. The richness of the colors and the fabrics is such an improvement over the previous blue bedding. And I don't know whether it was exhaustion or the bed, but these beds were really comfy.

Whichever resort you stay at will be great though. The location is really the best. Have a great time!
