The east to west progression is not something that @lazyboy97o made up to sound superior, it was put there by Disney themseleves and acknowledged in their own publications. From The Imagineering Field Guide to the Magic Kingdom:

"Frontierland continues a transation in time and location that begins in Liberty Square. You'll notice that even the numbers chosen for the building addreses along this stretch of the park play into this design direction. The assigned addresses roughly indicate the year in which the building is set, from the 1787 on The Hall of Presidents to the 1867 on the Town Hall of Frontierland. The early-1800s St. Louis styling of the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon at the boundry to Liberty Square marks the end of the East and the beginning of the West-the perfect way for us to head off into the unknown wilderness."

This is followed by a paragraph titled "It's the Little Things That Matter" which discusses the lanterns, graphics, landscaping and even the sidewalks which supports the theme of the land. Splash Mountain's exterior was modified from the original Disneyland version to support this concept, a design decision made not just because someone felt like it.

If anybody hasn't read this book already, I definately recommend it. It provides a great deal of information on the park's design logic.

Actually, they do. See my post above.

That only addresses the Diamond Horseshoe, and then only the exterior. The Interior and the revue (while it was still a thing) are more representative of the dance hall shows from cattle towns from the mid-century period onward.

And I never accused him of making it up. My argument is that it was spottily implemented in the first place, so there's very little reason to act like it's some sort of ironclad edict.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the western theme in Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris! It just seemed totally out of place. Probably because my exposure to haunted mansion type attractions have never once touched upon that theme.

Well I think the masses have spoken. At the end of the day we all know the attraction is wonderful and it's not going anywhere. We can continue to enjoy the ride for many more years.

The theming they did there with that was spectacular.

I've got it! Change it to the misadventures of The Apple Dumpling Gang!
I would just a love to see multiple Don Knotts, Tim Conway and Bill Bixby AA figures, kind of like what they did with Johnny Depp with that pirate ride.

I just wanted to throw a poll out there to see what the general idea was. It is obvious that thematically the southern inspired ride like Splash Mountain is not the most appropriate fit for a land like Frontierland. Of course the ride is so popular the thematic break goes unnoticed by even the biggest of Disney fans. Yea the music was changed a little to fit a more western theme, but would a new theme be the better fit for Frontierland? For example would it be acceptable to maybe do a retheme with something along the lines of Western River Expedition? Change the scenes and ideas from years ago into something more modern, but keep the old track system?

Alter the outside of the mountain to fit the themeing of Thunder Mountain next door, and you have a pretty cool looking land. Anyhoo...was just curios...
NO! No! no! I would suggest this is the best attraction in Disney's entire universe of parks. No! Just keep the million dollar bunny and the leaping fish working. And the leaping fountains. And FSU! :)
