Would you recommend the Polynesian?

Just checked yesterday and the Electrical Water Pageant is not any different than it has been for years. I was glad to see the parade is unaffected.

They were always running it. But the front half was turned off after it's performance because of the sharp turn to the north they had to do because of the booms. Then the second set of barges came in and did the last half of the show. What you were left with at the end was only half the barges doing the Stars and Stripes portion.

So, yes they are doing it but the question is have they found a solution to having to basically do the show in two halves?

It's sad about the volcano. That's what made the Poly slide the best slide IMO, sliding through the dark not knowing where you were going! I still do like the Poly, even though there was that issue regarding the view from some rooms, which I guess my complaint actually ended up bringing it to the attention of Tikiman and the Poly management, and led to the changes in the categories back in mid-2000's. I hope they don't just make it into a cartoonish Adventureland resort, it is a real Polynesian resort.

We were down to the Yacht Club and Poly for our honeymoon trip, we picked Yacht Club because it seemed to fit the occasion but I like the Poly. I will probably stay there one day when the construction is done. I think if I stay at the Poly I will never go to the parks, I'll just eat at Kona and Ohana all day and have drinks on the beach. haha

Whats the deal with the changes in the Lobby? I like the lobby.

I'm looking into planning another trip. We usually stay at the Yacht Club, but I thought, "Why not try something new?" So, I was looking at the other resort options and the Polynesian interested me. It would be nice to be on the monorail route, but I would miss walking to Epcot and taking a boat to the Studios. So, for those of you who have stayed at the Poly... Would you recommend it? I have heard mixed reviews. Thanks!

Its a great resort....just not worth the money.Beautiful and convenient to mk it is, but nothing more than a glorified moderate hotel, sorry if its not what you wanted to hear

I would not recommend the Polynesian...it shouldn't even be considered a deluxe resort in my opinion (I know all the Poly fans are going to hate me!) If you're going to make the switch to the monorail resorts, go for the gold and stay at the Grand Floridian. You won't be disappointed. I love the Epcot deluxe resorts, but the Grand Floridian holds a special place in my heart.

Short answer, after 23 years staying there I now have to say no, I can't recommend it. IMHO the place is being ruined by everything that is being done. The lobby is currently closed and the main water feature will be removed. There are apparently plans to remove the Nanaea volcano at the main pool. The new bungalows in the water are ruining views and giving the water pageant huge problems in doing the show at nights. Last I heard they still can't find a way to show more than half the parade. Finally, the construction will be felt throughout the year. Local management apparently isn't thrilled but the DVC people can push their weight around now and frankly don't care about the main resort. They simply don't know or care about what made it special. And that's my short answer.

We are aware of the construction, possible doing away with the lobby fountain, etc., but not aware that the lobby was now closed.
Where is check-in now and are the stores closed?

The only thing closed in the lobby at this point is Wyland Gallery. Nothing else has closed and at no point will the whole Great Ceremonial House be closed. They plan to do things in stages. I am sure some stages will be more disruptive than others but we will not know until it happens.

I LOVE the Poly and while I have only been able to stay there for 1 night, we loved it! The convenience of the monorail was great and the grounds of the resort are just beautiful. We walked over to the TTC to catch a monorail to Epcot and it was so easy getting back to the resort that night and not having to wait for a bus, etc.. We stayed on a ground floor room in Tuvalu facing the lagoon. The rooms are super big and so are the bathrooms. The only thing I didn't like was the sinks are inside the bathroom as opposed to outside.

The Poly "under construction" is still the Poly - Aita Peatea! Fingers crossed that will always be true!
We've requested Fiji, our "home" on other stays.
