Worst Animatronics

I see a lot of mentions for Sigourney Weaver over in GMR which I'd have to agree with- but by extension I'd say all of the animatronics in GMR. Every figure in the ride looks like it hasn't been upgraded or even reskinned in years (save for the Witch)- the worst offenders besides Signourney would have to be Gene Kelly, Humphrey Bogart, and Julie Andrews. None of them look anything like the actors they represent!

I thought Obama was done pretty bad. Just sayin.

This is how we all get into a political fight on the boards... :p

Seriously though, the presidents are bad. Sometimes I wonder if they are bad because of the technology or if the shear boredom of the attraction just brings out how bad the figures are, because you have to focus on them for so long.

The first effect of the presidents being unveiled when the curtain opens is still pretty cool (IMO). However, after a second glance over the AAs, the faces look off and kind of creepy and then yes the show gets very very boring.

Isn't there a president that actually has the motion of standing up and speaking?

Very true! I just happened to be in that seat right by her on my last ride. Wow, she was bad. Gene Kelly and Julie Andrews are pretty darn bad as well - as is Bogart. It's kind of sad how bad everything there is.

I cannot comment on those who talked about the Presidents. It's been decades since I've gone

I think out of all of the AAs in GMR, Bogart and Bergman are in much better shape. They looked more realistic than the rest (well except that they didn't make Bogart his exact height).

I voted for Bush...mine wasn't a veiled political statement. George W is a terrible animatronic, straight up. Obama isn't good either, but Bush is worse.
I didn't vote for Obama but my comment wasn't a political statement either. I really think it was poorly done.

Although some people around me would say I am old enough to remember Lincoln that simply is not true. So I can't honestly say how well his is.

I've never understood why they can't/won't fix that. It's been like that ever since I can remember I almost assume that's how it's supposed to be...
I've asked that question before and never gotten an answer. I think the hippo might be winking, but it sure seems like a creepy stuck eyelid to me.

Which makes no sense. All of the Presidents aside from Obama were sculpted by the late, great Blaine Gibson....and he made each one of them PERFECT. How that translated into odd-looking animatronics has me scratching my head.

Perfect example: Gibson sculpting a near-perfect bust of George W. Bush.

And here's what the completed animatronic looked like:

Something was obviously lost in translation.

I give a pass to the "vintage" rides and think the animatronics on those (i.e. POTC) are charming and bring back memories. However....I can't tell you the disappointment I felt when I first went on the Ariel Under the Sea ride--I LOVE the queue and assumed that the Disney wizards put something special together with all the technology they now have at their fingertips. Boy, was I wrong! Cheap-looking characters that move like robots and look like they were painted by my kid was not what I was expecting. If it wasn't for the music I would avoid the ride altogether.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
I dunno where the hate for Ariel's animatronics come from when we have 98% of the animatronics in Great Movie Ride to fix...

In my personal opinion, I'm not a fan of the animated face animatronics for Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff. Unlike the dwarves, they literally look like robots with a shiny projected face. I mean, that's what they are, but that's not what they're SUPPOSED to be. The faces look pretty distorted and just.. Weird. Worked great for dwarves though.

If they were going for Sean Hannity, they nailed it.
