Worried about Universal....

Ok I have been wanting to go to Universal ever since IoA opened but never had the chance. Now my grandparents have booked us 5 days at the parks. I'm so worried that this will be too long of a stay there since there are only 2 parks. Is there really enough things to do to fill up a 5 day stay or will I be bored to  ?

I, for one, love going to the parks and would enjoy having five days to split between the two. There are actually a lot of little things that people miss when they only go for one or two days. You will have A LOT of time, yes, but that will allow you to relax and actually enjoy the experience. Find out when the break-dancers perform, watch the Graveyard Review, stand in line for Mummy; those are all things that you can easily do to kill time. Also, check out the Blues Brothers, and the Ghostbusters with Beetlejuice. And that isn't even taking into account IOA. It seems like a lot of time, but after you experience you will really appreciate how much Uni actually has to over.

And you can always hang out at CityWalk to kill time, as well.

Well I've been going constantly since 1999 and I'm not sick of it yet. I could go on Mummy and Spider-man for five days straight and not be bored. But maybe that's just me...

You wont be bored the entire time you are there, I promise you that. There is so much to see and do there, between the two parks, and city walk you might even need more than 5 days. Have fun!

I can usually do both parks in one day and am more than satisfied. But if you take your time to do EVERYTHING, including all the little side-shows and such, you probably would be easily occupied for 3 full days at the parks (depending on crowd levels, etc.). There is no doubt that you will have to repeat stuff if you want to stay entertained, but that isn't at all a bad thing because sometimes certain rides need to be re-ridden to fully enjoy them (Spiderman is a good example). I've never really been a fan of Citywalk and its "nightlife" (if I was staying on-site I might be more inclined to stay around though)...but there are more than enough restaurants to eat at for 5 days and you probably won't get to eat in them all (Nascar, Hard Rock, NBA City, Margartaville, Emeril's, etc.), but shopping is pretty scarce compared to Downtown Disney.

I don't think you will be "bored", per say, as long as you want to repeat stuff...and I know a lot of us do and have no problem with that. Although, I do think 5 days at UO is too much. It is just two parks and Citywalk and nothing else (you could always tour the three on-site resorts if you want) 3 full days would probably be plenty, but I think you will enjoy yourself either way....and if you ever get "tired" of it...WDW and Seaworld are just a short drive away (I imagine your staying either on site of near Universal, right?)

You are right about the shopping, there isnt much, which isnt a bad thing if you dont like shopping like me. I think now that the parks are going to be kinda crowded it'll probably take atleast day or two to do everything at each park

You'll be fine. Trust me! Also, if it comes to the worst, and you did it all in 3 days, you can always call a cab and go to Disney for one day....

I agree with CTXRover in that five days at Universal is a bit too long for a vacation. Three days is fine if you plan on being in the parks all days long. Four days would probably be better if you plan on spending time outside the parks (City Walk or resort touring) during the days. Five days is best if you're planning on going to another theme park such as Sea World or a WDW park.

Here's a sample schedule for the three day version:

day 1 - Spend the full day in Universal Studios from opening to closing. You'll end up circling the park several times and end up riding a few f the big rides a couple of times. After the park is closed take some time to go through City Walk.

day 2 - Spend the full day in Islands of Adventure from opening to closing. Again, circle the park a few times and go on all the rides. It'll be easier here to go on several rides multiple times. Again, after the park is closed take a trip through City Walk.

day 3 - Spend half the day in one park going on favorite rides, then head for the other park and do the same. Perhaps have a lunch in the City Walk while going between the parks.

If you can walk fast and stay in the parks all day, you'll easily see everything in three days. If you like to go slow, then you're probably best off staying for four days.

There is one thing that you might want to consider. I don't know who else you are traveling with, but I gathered that your grandparents are taking you there, right? Have they ever experienced Universal before or know what it offers?

This is just something to consider, and I hate to make generalizations since I obviously don't know anything about your grandparents, but using my own as a reference, 5 days at UO would leave my grandparents pretty bored with little to do. There was very little at either parks that they wanted/could ride, especially at IOA when they went for one day to both parks. Citywalk left very little for them either as there isn't much aside from restaurants and nightclubs, so I couldn't imagine what my grandparents would do for even three days there. Are your grandparents the same way in terms of not wanting to ride thrill rides? If so, it is definetely something to consider....you could possibly keep yourself entertained for five full days, but they might not. If they like or don't mind thrill rides, nothing to worry about.

After the parks close though, all there is to do is Citywalk. If you and your family aren't big night-life/club-hoppers, there isn't much else there besides restaurants and a movie theater. There are very few shops to wander through and depending what time of year you go and how late the parks are open, most of Citywalk could be easily explored in the evening over three days.

Again, it does depend on the crowds, your ability to use express passes, the speed at which you explore the park and whether you are staying on-site or not for front-of-the-line access, but 3 days are probably more than enough, even during the really crowded season.

Is there any other specific concern any of us could answer in terms of what there is to do at UO, besides if there is enough to do over 5 days? (To which my answer would be, maybe, if you don't mind repeating what you've seen a lot)

Umm...I did both parks in one day a couple of weeks ago :lookaroun

Granted, I didn't see EVERYTHING in USF...(meaning, I didn't see Nickelodeon Studios, Woody's FunZone, and the Animal Planet Live show...but pretty much everything else...including Revenge of the Mummy. (BTW...Those lockers have longer lines than most of the freakin' attractions!)

here's my 2 cent tip:

skip the Ghostbusters with beetlejuice crap. it's an insult to two great franchises.

we did universal and IOA in two days the last time went (Sept. 2001). but we aren't rushing to go back either. it's not that we don't like Universal or the rides are bad (except for Twister, that just plain sucks) but the fact that they really do not have more to offer thant he rides. at Disney, we have more to do if a ride has a long wait. Even with Universal's "Fastpass" what else are you goingt o do? play the water boat carny game? have your weight guessed? for me i don't see much of a reason to return. especially to IoA. if you go in the summer, the lines are long, and longer for the water rides. you go during the winter or colder months, the rides for non-water are even longer because there are no water rides. they're workin but i don't wanna freeze my butt off.

it'll be a few years before we go again. enjoy your trip, but be wary.
