Visit the future…today! Launch into an epic futuristic adventure, rocket through the inky darkness of space, help shape tomorrow and drive the roads to the horizon of the future. Walt Disney himself had an interest in predicting parts of future life. Through his television programs he showed the American public how the world was moving into the future. Tomorrowland was the sum of all of these views and ideas. This is the reason why Tomorrowland is often the most exciting lands of all. However, Tomorrowland met great problems as it is the land with most ride closures in Disney history and that’s all because of the Tomorrowland Paradox. The paradox explains how Tomorrowland is designed to step into the future, but usually becomes outdated as time and technology progresses, leaving Tomorrowland as a Yesterdayland. This has caused Disney to often choose IP to keep Tomorrowland interesting for their Guests, but with all these different stories mixed, Tomorrowland has become a thematic mess with sometimes monsters, sometimes Marvel superheroes, sometimes a galaxy far far away, sometimes a great big beautiful tomorrow and sometimes an escaped blue experiment. Although my version is not going to solve the Tomorrowland Paradox, this is the way I’d like to see Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, as I don’t see a lot of options of showcasing progress and futuristic advancements, which Walt was so inspired by.

‘’Tomorrowland can be a wonderful age. Our scientists today are opening the doors of the Space Age to achievements that will benefit our children and generations to come. The Tomorrowland attractions have been designed to give you an opportunity to participate in adventures that are a living blueprint of our future.’’​

The area gets a total re-model, both in and out. The hard angles of the land’s architecture are softened, often seeming fluid and flexible and the land’s theme returns to real-world techno-optimism. This is why the land will somewhat remind you of the newest Disney park, Shanghai. Its fluid architecture and its glowing light features, with waterfalls and small streams will truly transport you far into the future. Opening the land is a grand entrance with a waterfall feature and the luxury Falling Water Terrace. Take a seat and check out the sight from Tomorrowland as water glows and flows around your table. As you progress further into the land, you’ll notice that the land also really focuses on green energy and green architecture. Although it’s an ultra-modern land with a lot of silvers, blues and greys, it balances out with patches of green. If you look straight ahead you might see a platform towering above many of the Tomorrowland buildings. It appears to spin and people are cheering inside of the interesting structure. This is the Orbitron. Pilot your very own rocket ship high in the sky amid a gleaming constellation of orbiting planets. If you climb into your personal mini- spaceship you’ll notice that the ride has lost its bronze colours and has become, more silver, blue and white, but still looks like a more advanced version of a galaxy constellation. Guests will be able to direct how high they fly by pulling or pushing the lever inside the ship.

Before reaching the Orbitron, however, take a look on your left. This is now where you’ll find Plus Ultra HQ(inspired by SW Wilson from Idealbuildoutblogspot). This headquarter building is home to the newest interactive dark ride, filling up the space of Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters. Guests will follow this secret society known as Plus Ultra, comprised of the greatest minds throughout history. They are the founders of Tomorrowland. Since its founding, Plus Ultra has recruited and trained its members at various world’s fairs, expositions and other special events, but also to demonstrate their technological and scientific advancements as they gave a glimpse at life in Tomorrowland. The Plus Ultra Society will be used all over Tomorrowland as a sort of Society of Explorers and Adventurers for Tomorrowland. During the ride Guests will be able to shape Tomorrowland in an interactive adventure for you and your family to enjoy. Follow their history and make the decisions for the future. It will be like the interactive part of Spaceship Earth, but a lot more professional and on a whole new scale with actual scenes instead of screens.

Adjacent to this ride is another new ride, replacing Star Tours, which in my opinion really has no space in Tomorrowland. This is now home to Deep Sea Submersion, based on the theme of Deep Sea Exploration. Now that Submarine Voyage has been removed in favor of Alpine Valley and Tomorrowland, I’d still love to use the theme of deep sea exploration, since it’s just as or even more interesting as space exploration. There is so much mystery hidden away in the oceans. Deep Sea Submersion will combine Mission Space and Star Tours, almost in a Smuggler’s Run manner. Guests will be recruited to go on a mission to the Deep Sea Station of Nep-T0-3, where a strange error has been detected. Along their way they’ll meet strange deep sea creatures and learn about the human bonds with the seas as innovation progresses and even how technology uses the seas to for example produce energy. The ride will have a several variations in which Guests can choose between a softer and a more intense experience, which decides the level of immersion effects like pressure and sound effects.

As you move further into the land and reach the Orbitron, you’ll also find the Tomorrowland TransCenter. This is where Guests are able to ride the historic, high-speed, zero-emission transportation system that rockets along a single rail through the Disneyland Resort on the Monorail or take a grand circle tour around and above the land of the future in your very own state-of-the-art PeopleMover Cabin. The Disneyland Monorail was a first of its kind transportation system in America. The current version will be updated to advance its technological features today with a sleek styling that combines the 1959 classic with new technologies and subtle design changes, making it both retro-futuristic as well as a timeless Disneyland icon. The monorail flies over Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, past the Alpine Valley, gliding over Disneyland Resort’s other theme park, zooms through several hotels and resorts and even takes you to the Downtown Disney District. The PeopleMover will be an improved version of the old ride that was closed at Tomorrowland. The futuristic pods will tour you in and out of the many buildings of Tomorrowland, occasionally slowing down and accelerating so that it can focus on certain views or offer information on a certain part of the land.

If you then move to your right, you’ll see a mysterious structure, almost forming a white mountain, with a design resembling the original sketches of the ride much more than its final result. This is home to Space Voyage. After the success of Matterhorn Bobsleds, Walt Disney wanted to make another roller coaster with four separate tracks. In reality, this plan was scrapped due to space limitations, but in this alternate reality, Space Voyage has actually found its way to Tomorrowland. This roller-coaster style ride in the dark, with lighting and other special effects, challenges Guests to choose one of four space missions that intertwine during the ride but all offer a different thrilling experience. As you enter the Tomorrowland Space Port, you’ll learn about the Space research plans of Plus Ultra. When you choose your mission and are assigned a seat in your space vehicle you’ll race through the cosmos in the dark to the edge of the galaxy and back on a thrilling roller-coaster ride to succeed your mission. The ride system will be an improved version of the current Space Mountain ride system, but with three other variations and much more advanced special effects, similar to the current Hyperspace Mountain at Disneyland Paris. You are racing by this vast man-made solar field, energizing your rocket car for its dazzling plunge into super space. If you’re looking for space-themed souvenirs for galactic Guests of all ages, look no further than The Star Trader, a shop near the exit of the Tomorrowland SpacePort.

Besides the Star Trader, however, The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow Store, the largest of stores in Tomorrowland. Discover limited-edition pins, toys and more at this interstellar souvenir market. This super exciting shopping experience shows the possibilities of shopping in the future. This enables the use of customizing items or easily finding the items you’re looking for. Not too far away is the New Horizons Café. Enjoy a down-to-Earth menu with out-of-this-world flavors. The restaurant is based on the extinct Horizons attraction at Epcot. It adopts its murals and ideals of living in the future. The last and perhaps one of the most special dining options in Tomorrowland is the Progress City Restaurant. Watch over the world of great big beautiful tomorrow on an overlooking sky lounge. Now, this might not sound too special but it will actually be a restaurant similar to the Blue Bayou Restaurant with its connection to the bypassing Pirates of the Caribbean boats, but with Autopia instead.

Autopia is an opening day attraction, but it will receive a very big facelift. Autopia is the only existing Tomorrowland attraction dating back to Disneyland Park’s opening day in 1955. When the cars first took to the road, they captured America’s fascination with the latest transportation innovation, the ‘’freeway’’. Over the years, the roadways and car styles have been updated, but the fun stayed the same. Yet, now the ride’s new version will almost be nothing like the ride we know. It will be almost entirely indoors, combining autopia’s interactive features with test track and EMV like systems passing through scenes based on the Carousel of Progress and the earlier mentioned Horizons attraction as you race through the streets of the city of Tomorrow and chase the horizon on the highway of Tomorrow. The Autopia cars pass by the Progress City restaurant which also overlooks a model of the classic Progrss City with a modern touch. Again there will be several tracks, which also switch so that Guests can choose their own route through the attraction’s various show scenes, bringing you to for example the city mall, the energy production center, the Mesa Verde desert farms and more! Although I totally realize how these changes do not necessarily fix the Tomorrowland Paradox, I feel like adding the Plus Ultra truly brings Tomorrowland to its old glory, breathing new life into the visions of Walt Disney by giving the land an actual story and still offering exciting experiences on multiple areas of interest for people of all ages. Liberty Street

The spirit of patriotism has always been alive at Disneyland, even before Walt Disney proclaimed ‘’here age relives fond memories of the past’’. He was greatly influenced by his passion for American history when developing ideas for Disneyland, so it’s no surprise that he was looking for a way to incorporate Colonial America into his original Magic Kingdom. In 1956 an expansion for Disneyland was announced which would have included a new land called Liberty Street. Although it wouldn’t be a full land, it still would have featured new attractions, shows and dining options for Guests to enjoy. The land was never built in reality, however, because of the construction of the 1959 expansion, which included the Monorail, the Matterhorn Bobsleds and Submarine Voyage attractions. With the development of audio animatronic technology for the Enchanted Tiki Room and later for the 1964 World’s Fair. Although the plans for Liberty Street was never realized, the plans and ideas eventually inspired Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Liberty Square at Walt Disney World and The American Adventure at Epcot.

Located between Tomorrowland and Main Street U.S.A., Liberty Street would now finally become reality. The buildings in the land would be inspired by a mixture of several American cities as they existed during the nation’s early years. They would pay tribute to the original thirteen American colonies. Just past the Main Street Opera Hall, you would find the entrance to this land. On your left you would find The Blacksmith’s Corner, where you get to walk into a real Blacksmith shop. Here, hard work results in amazing crafted products. Next to this shop would be the Trade Union. Witness true craftsmanship in this indoor market selling different traditional American products. Adjacent to these two shops will be the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe, similar to the one at Liberty Square in Walt Disney World. This shop with a year-round décor of shimmering garland, lights, trees and the sound of warm holiday music is in perfect complement to the available ornaments, wreathes, stockings, nutcrackers and tree-skirts.At the end of the first street, right before the turn to Liberty Square, you’ll find Griffin’s Wharf Restaurant. Take a seat in this wharfside tavern and relive the days of the Boston Tea Party. This restaurant will be placed in a diorama made to look like the Boston seaport in Colonial Times.

Following the turn in the street, you’ll near Liberty Square where you’ll find the Liberty Tree. This famous elm tree once stood in Boston near Boston Common, in the years before the American Revolution. It became a central gathering place for protesters, and the ground surrounding it became popularly known as Liberty Hall. In its branches, you’ll notice thirteen candles again representing the thirteen colonies of America. Nearby is the Liberty Tree Tavern. Pay tribute to the founding fathers as you dine at this stately colonial-style inn serving traditional New England-inspired fare. Also on the square are Paul Revere’s Silver Shop, a corner stone of Paul Revere’s professional life as you meet this versatile craftsman who eagerly meets the needs of his customers and the Boston Observer Print Shoppe, a curious Boston-styled shop, based on the Johny Tremaine newspaper. In the plaza in the center you might see the state flags of each of the original 13 states, as well as the American one.

Besides many restaurants and shops, the land would feature two attractions. In a recreation of Constitution Hall you’ll find Constitution Hall Presents Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. Revel in the stirring oratory of Abraham Lincoln – delivered in person – and explore rare presidential memorabilia. It was originally showcased as the prime feature of the State of Illinois Pavilion at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. The show opened at Disneyland a year later. The original plan would have been a show to honor all of the American presidents, however, technology was limited at the time and instead imagineers were looking into plans for a tribute to Walt Disney’s boyhood hero, Abraham Lincoln. The show is not only a tribute to American history but also a showcase of how audio animatronic technology has developed over the years and still remaining popular to this day for many of the frequent Disneyland Guests.

The other attraction would be set inside The Hall of Declaration of Independence. It would be known as A Nation Formed. This audio animatronic show based on the history of the founding of the United States, would be quite similar to shows as The American Adventure and The Hall of Presidents and would feature three scenes inspired by famous painting that would help tell the story of the United States. The auditorium, aping Colonial architectural style, has wooden bench pews which can seat 500 guests. Overhead, lights in the shape of thirteen stars will provide the lighting. The proscenium arch will hold three framed settings occupied by sculptured, three-dimensional life-sized figures in costume. Each montage will have narration, along with selected quotes from the Declaration of Independence giving an account of the historic implication of each scene. The first scene is taken from the painting by J.L.G. Ferris entitled ‘’The Drafting of the Declaration of Independence’’. Here Guests will witness John Adams and Ben Franklin in conference as Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration. As the curtain closes, another opens to showcase the ‘’Signing of the Declaration of Independence’’ from a painting by John Trumbull. The ending tableau is from Henry Mosler’s ‘’Ringing of the Liberty Bell’’. Again, narration peppers with quotes from the Declaration, will tell the story and historical significance of each scene.

If you think that’s it for Liberty Street, look again, because one small walkthrough attraction called Secrets of the Capitol places you in a role of a National Treasure story. First you’ll enter a room which presents a model of the Capitol building in Washington D.C. You’ll then find out that there’s a secret passageway leading you on a search for hidden troves and secrets from U.S. history while evading the U.S. government buildings. You’ll feel like Benjamin Gates and his family on a mission to uncover the hidden mysteries in American history. Lastly, to create some kind of streetmosphere, you will occasionally see the Fife and Drum Corps. Their music and rhythm truly hearken to the spirit and celebration of the American Dream. Now that we’ve explored all the areas of Disneyland Park, I’m curious to find out what you think up to now from the re-design of the park from scratch. We’ll discuss some of the park’s show spectaculars and parades before we move on to Disneyland Resort’s second theme park, hotels and resorts and Downtown Disney District, so stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed our quick circle tour of the re-designed Disneyland Park from scratch. Now let’s dive into some of the shows, spectaculars and parades.

Parades have been a tradition in Disney parks since the very opening of Disneyland in 1955. The first parades were very different from how we recognize them today though. They were much simpler and more like a bunch of characters walking through the streets of Walt’s Magic Kingdom with occasional floats with a simple design. Parades were there to symbolize how every day is some type of special occasion at a Disney park, especially because of the appropriate set-up of Main Street U.S.A. hosting such an event on a daily basis. It provided a free entertainment experience for a large number of guests without needing a stage facility, the streets are the stage. After 1961, the parades became much more elaborate with Walt Disney himself becoming much more involved with the costume and float design for his parades. He was influenced by the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Parades became so popular that in peak seasons, parades were often performed multiple times a day. They were scheduled for times when there was peak attendance or as a way of leading guests out of the park at the end of the day. Although Disneyland Park wasn’t originally designed with a planned parade route, it quickly altered its designs, constructing float yards and special routes for the daily extravaganzas to take place. There have been many breakthroughs in parade technology, from interactive features to special effects to new sound systems and more!

What I’d like to focus on today, is a replacement for Disney’s Soundsational Parade, which premiered in 2011. The parade celebrated songs from Disney films, featuring classics such as Aladdin, Peter Pan and the Little Mermaid and also more modern films like Tangled, The Princess and the Frog and Frozen. Now, lately we have been hearing rumors of a new parade premiering at Disneyland Park in 2020 and I’d love to expand on that idea. So, as you are enjoying Disneyland Park, make sure to head over to Main Street U.S.A. around 3 pm and you’ll find yourself at a gathering of excitement as Guests await a celebration of music, characters, stories, dance and magic! Disney’s Magic Happens Parade

As we sit down our stand at our spot on Main Street U.S.A. we hear an announcement that we Guests are invited to spark some magic at Disney’s Magic Happens parade, a celebration of Disney characters, colorful floats, music and dance. Looking at Central Plaza, we can see how a series of parade units is nearing the Town Square of Main Street U.S.A. The sounds become louder, the floats become bigger and the mood becomes brighter. The theme song of the parade will be quite different from other parades, much more lively and spontaneous compared to the other theme songs that have all become somewhat similar. Our first opening unit will be the Fantasia Unit. Vibrant dancers dressed as enchanted brooms from the Sorcerer’s Apprentice segment collect water from the well on the parade float and splash the streets with an exciting dance. It is as if they are controlled by a supernatural type of enchantment. As you look up on the float it all becomes clear, we see Sorcerer Mickey casting spells all around him on top of a rock covered in flowers as he asks us to join his celebration of all things magic. Behind him a beautiful garden with Greek temple patios and waterfalls emerge. We see creatures of Greek mythology; centaurs, fauns, dancing flowers, sugar plum fairies and even Pegasus and his family taking to the skies. Closing this unit are the hippos, crocodiles, elephants and ostriches from the Dance of the Hours on and around a smaller float featuring the elephants blowing bubbles around.

Our next unit evokes the magic of medieval ages. This is the Sword in the Stone unit. A performance of brave knights combining medieval martial arts with dance is what gets us ready for the rocky parade float featuring King Arthur spectacularly pulling the Sword from its Stone. Hidden away from Guests facing the float at the front with rockwork, is a large animatronic figure of Madam Mim in dragon form. A separate mini float features Merlin the powerful wizard as he casts his spells to fight the dark magic of Mad Madam Mim.

Then a whole new sound enters the streets. A lush exotic feeling blows along the Pacific sea breeze that takes over the atmosphere. We see dancers performing traditional Polynesian dances as seen in the scenes taking place on Moana’s home island of Motonui, like in the We Know the Way and Where You Are. The float itself will be exceptionally groundbreaking as it features Moana, Hei-Hei, Pua and Maui on a traditional Polynesian float braving against the seas. The float will move and look like its actually fluid and its fluent design will be unlike anything seen before in a parade. Also, something that’s rarely seen, the float will feature actual parade floats simulating the living sea water and the rushing waves. A show stop features a large glowing spirit Stingray emerging from the waves. We then see mysterious creatures of the deep or Lalotai, the land of monsters. A giant float of Tamatoa passes by as he shows he shiny he can be.

From the Polynesian oceans we come to land again and celebrate music and family with Miguel and his family. A vertical float themed to the Land of the Dead, including its vibrant glowing colors and cultural details roams the streets of Disneyland, as if it is actually floating around. A group of dancers and performers who look similar to the ones featured in the Disney on Ice shows for the Coco segment dance to traditional Mexican sounds, bringing a bit of Dia de los Muertos to Disneyland on a daily basis. Following up is the Peter Pan Unit which will be very similar to the floats from Happiness is Here, Dreaming Up and Disney Stars on Parade. Although Peter Pan and his gang of lost boys are seen challenging Hook and his pirate crew, they are just a minor feature of the other float based on Tinkerbell and her pixie friends. Made to look like a colorful Pixie Hollow, the float features flowers, plants and flying pixies spreading pixie dust.

The Neverland Jungles change into a snowy pinewood forest. Mystic colors and glowing lights surround us as we have reached the Arendelle woods. The Frozen unit features dancers dressed as trolls as our Frozen float is themed to Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf visiting a troll festival, like the Fixer Upper scene from the film. Occasionally the trolls and Elsa will perform some magic tricks to capture the Guests in enchantment. A dressed up Marshmallow hidden in the woods joins the celebration as he often waves or winks at Guests on the left and right.

Nearly the last unit is themed around Cinderella and features the mice and birds as they try to sew a dress on a mini-float. Other critters dance around a rotating dress so that Cinderella can go to the ball. Another float, a larger one behind it features Cinderella herself and her fairy godmother. The float is somewhat organic and is inspired by the shape of a pumpkin and its roots. The show stop of this unit features an incredible transformation of Cinderella from rags to a ball gown. It will truly be a sight not to be missed.

Swinging the streets up next is the Princess and the Frog unit, which attempts to bring a bit of the sounds and feelings of New Orleans to Main Street U.S.A. A Louisiana Steam wheeler surrounded by New Orleans jazz dancers and flappers truly captures those earlier mentioned goals and lets the music lead the way. On the ship, Louis, Tiana and Naveen are seen performing some of their favorite tunes. Yet, further along the way a smaller float features Doctor Facilier in a dark bayou area. He is surrounded by moving and singing masks and glowing smoke as he tries to call upon his friends on the other side. The more macabre tone of the float will be a really interesting transition from its first steam wheeler float.

The final unit represents the good that Disney magic does and thus will be a portrayal of several famous Disney moments coming to life. A group of dancers dressed as fairy tale characters perform around a float themed to a fantasy castle that has stained glass images of happily ever afters of Disney movies. For example we’ll see Snow White getting kissed by her prince and Pinocchio being turned into a real boy by the Blue Fairy. This would truly capture and celebrate the essence of magic and hope in Disney stories. The show would then unfortunately come to an end, but you are left with an amazing experience of special effects, sounds, dance and characters. You hardly can’t wait for what’s to come when night falls…

Sorry for the lack of updates, I was travelling around Sicily, Italy for a few weeks and didn't really have time or material to post anything..

As the night falls, the park starts to have a very different feel, from the illuminating glow in Tomorrowland to the mysterious torch light in Adventureland and the cozy atmosphere in New Orleans Square or Alpine Valley. The night shows a whole new side of Disneyland Park. Yet, one of the most exciting parts of dusk can be found once again on the parade route of the park. Gather around as one of the most iconic parades in Disney history, The Main Street Electrical Parade returns to the park with a whole new style. Since its debut in 1972, versions of the parade have existed in five Disney parks worldwide. What I’ve noticed is that the newer nighttime parades didn’t work on the nostalgia of Main Street Electrical Parade enough, especially when Paint the Night came to Disneyland Resort. In Hong Kong, where there is no sentiment attached to Main Street Electrical Parade, this newer parade works perfectly, but Disneyland Resort deserves more. That’s why this time, the parade will still very iconic and classic, yet it will not be a carbon copy of the original version that debuted in the 70s. The parade will continue to innovate and introduce new floats, in a similar way to what Tokyo Disneyland’s Dreamlights Parade does.

Main Street Electrical Parade

Watch as Guests gather on the sides of Main Street U.S.A. The lights dim out and we start to hear an announcement, ‘’Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Disneyland proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-syntho-magnetic musical sounds, the Main Street Electrical Parade!’’ After this a revamped version of the famous Baroque Hoedown, somewhat similar to what is heard on in Paint the Night Parade. A bright blue light starts to near the crowds. This is the Blue Fairy, similar to her looks on Tokyo’s nighttime parade, she majestically flows with her blue glow past the Guests. Behind her Casey Jr., the circus train from the animated classic film Dumbo races past with Mickey and Minnie as passengers. Glowing and colorful smoke emerges from the steam pipe and a LED screen projecting the parade’s logo serves as the perfect opening for the parade. Surrounding the circus train are three glowing critters, a turtle, a caterpillar and a snail. These jolly creatures are Main Street Electrical Parade classics and always try to greet as many Guests as possible.

Following the opening unit is a drop down the Rabbit Hole into the nonsensical world of Wonderland. As an opening to this unit, you’ll have a mini float with the White Rabbit holding an oversized watch as he is suspended by a robotic arm that simulates him hopping like an actual rabbit and inviting Guests to join him on a journey to Wonderland. After that we’ll see a large float with Alice in a garden featuring the singing flowers with projected faces, the Cheshire Cat appearing and disappearing with light effects on multiple places on the float and the caterpillar perched on top of a mushroom smoking colorful clouds of smoke. Behind them another float with the Mad Hatter, the Dormouse and the March Hare will be another impressive sight. You’ll find the characters between oversized cups and tea pots pouring tea(made real by light effects and projections). The last float features a rose garden with play cards splashing paint around the garden so they can paint the white roses red. In the middle of the float a huge figure of the Queen of Hearts can be found who changes from happy to angry and red as she finds out about the rose fraud as she yells ‘’ OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!’’.

Our next unit is based on the first animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The unit opens with a deer holding a mine cart. On his back, you’ll find princess Snow White waving at Guests. In the mine cart you’ll find an animatronic figure with projected mapping face of Dopey emerging from the diamonds, similar to what you see in the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Behind her you’ll find a float that is based on the seven dwarfs’ mine, where a million diamonds shine. You’ll again see figures of the dwarfs with projected faces, similar to the ones found in the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride. They are working and singing to their famous working song. Racing through the mine with glowing diamonds is a reflecting and out-of-control mine train.

Another classic, Pinocchio gets represented in the next unit. Dancers that are dressed up as young boys who have changed into donkeys mark our trip to the exciting Pleasure Island. The main float’s front will look like a happier version of Monstro, similar to the one that can be found in the finale scene of the Festival of Fantasy parade at Walt Disney World. On top of him, Pinocchio emerges on top of some reflecting water coming from his blowhole. Behind him, we can see the wonderful world that is Pleasure Island, a carousel, a Ferris wheel, a rollercoaster and some small nods to the scene in the film and even the show scene in the Pinocchio dark ride with its candy cane trees and glowing carnival lights.

Behind all the mayhem of the Pinocchio unit, a much more peaceful unit comes next. One movie that fits perfectly with the theme of illumination and nighttime parades is one that features thousands of floating lanterns and glowing magical hair. Yep, it’s Tangled! This unit will be small and features a gondola as seen in the ‘’I See the Light’’ scene from the movie. In the gondola, Guests can wave at Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, or even spot Pascal who occasionally appears and disappears. Surrounding the gondola are multiple floating lanterns that will actually move up and down to give the float a less static appearance. Besides that, the healing incantation can be heard from time to time, revealing Rapunzel’s magical powers hidden in her hair. It will start to glow in a similar way as it did in the film, making this a truly enchanting moment to see for Guests.

The streets are then filled with an Arabian caravan as the world of Aladdin comes to life. A parade similar to the one seen in the Prince Ali scene in the film celebrates all that Aladdin represents and even Abu in elephant form. However, the main float features Aladdin and Jasmine as they take on a magic carpet ride over the streets of Agrabah. This float will look similar to the float that was once found in the Aladdin’s Royal Caravan and the Disneyland Paris parade featuring them followed by Jafar. However, this float will have a figure of Genie, similar to Tokyo Disney’s Dreamlights behind them, changing color from time to time. The float uses mist to simulate clouds and sparkling lights represent a starry sky.

The guests on Main Street U.S.A. are then plunged into the undersea world of Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. We see performers holding illuminating puppets of undersea creatures, who greet guests with their vibrating shapes and colors. Bubbles spread around the unit, creating an almost enchanting immersion. The parade float itself features Crush and Squirt in the East Australian Current, an impressive light tunnel that captures the Crush scene in Finding Nemo. You’ll smell a subtle sea breeze as you watch how the lights simulate the water twisting around our turtle characters. Nemo, Dory and Marlin can be seen as well, in puppet form, similar to the other performers and the puppets that can be found in Finding Nemo the Musical at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Serving as a finale to the Main Street Electrical Spectacle is a Main Street Electrical Parade classic based on Pete’s Dragon. This classic float will return to the streets once again, but it will receive a major update, making the float much more lively and expressive. The float will be able to move more and especially its face will receive a quite literal facelift so that his eyes and mouth become more animated, on the level of Paint the Night at Hong Kong Disneyland and Dreamlights at Tokyo Disneyland. On Elliott’s neck you’ll see Pete himself waving and talking to Guests. The nostalgia behind Elliott in the parade would be the perfect finale to a series of exciting floats combined to be a spectacle of stories, lights and music. After this post, we’ll dive into the actual nighttime finale. The nighttime parade is a build-up of suspense and excitement of what is yet to become after that. It works perfectly on its own, but the park has always needed a kiss good night, and that’s what I’ll talk about soon, so stay tuned if you’re curious to see what type of nighttime spectacular Disneyland Park will receive.

At night, nearing closing time, Guests head over to the Rivers of America to witness something incredible. This spectacle combines storytelling, fire effects, water fountains, music, puppets, performers, floats, audio animatronics, mist and smoke effects and color to create an unforgettable show experience on and across the waterway and is known as…

Fantasmic!

Lights start to fade and a female narrator introduces the story. ‘’Welcome to Fantasmic! Tonight, our friend and host Mickey Mouse uses his vivid imagination to create magical imagery for all to enjoy. Nothing is more wonderful than the imagination, for in a moment, you can experience a beautiful fantasy or an exciting adventure. But beware, nothing is more powerful than the imagination, for it can also expand your greatest fears into an overwhelming adventure. Are the powers of Mickey’s imagination strong enough, and bright enough, to withstand the evil forces that invade Mickey’s dreams? You are about to find out. For we now invite you to join Mickey, and experience Fantasmic!... a journey beyond your wildest imagination.’’ The show then continues as Mickey falls asleep and we enter his magnificent world of dreams. The show scene takes inspiration from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice sequence from Fantasia, the classic animated film that combines storytelling with music and animated short films. Sorcerer Mickey activates the show’s water and pyro effects.

Mickey’s spectacle of stars and lights turn into a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes. These eventually morph into the image of bush of flowers. The water screens disappear and live performers portraying flower petals dance in a way much more cirque du soleil-ish or like an Olympics opening performance on a smaller stage and scale. A yellow/orange flower opens up revealing a bright light rising from the horizon. This bright light portrays the rising sun and Guests start to hear The Circle of Life from The Lion King. Rafiki then goes and lifts a baby Simba into the air. The water screens disappear once again and the animal puppets that can be found in Walt Disney World’s version of Fantasmic spread across the stage on Lafitte’s Island as an instrumental version of Just Can’t Wait to be King plays. The lighting and music change to a jungle beat, and Kaa from the Jungle Book makes his way across the island with hypnotic beams of light firing from his eyes. Accompanying this scene are three floating barges passing by on the Rivers of America carrying King Louie and Baloo, Terk and a gang of gorillas and Timon and Pumbaa. A medley of Hakuna Matata, I Wanna Be Like You and Trashin the Camp plays as they pass by.

The scene is then taken over by plants overgrowing the images so that they can’t be seen anymore. A purple and pink flower bursts open and a bunch of curious creatures start marching from it. These strange pink elephants dance to their musical number from Dumbo, but this revamp of the original combines the original images with the Danny Elfman version for the live-action movie of Dumbo. Mickey discovers a magical lamp. He rubs it and the Genie is freed via onscreen animation. He shows off his powers as he sings Friend Like Me. He then changes Mickey into Pinocchio, revealing gigantic Pinocchio, Dutch and French Puppets dancing to a revamped version of I’ve Got No Strings. After turning Mickey back to his original form he places him on a magic carpet and soars off to the skies. A medley and video compilation of You Can Fly, When I See an Elephant Fly and the UP Theme transition into a romantic night sky.

Mist appears on the island and the backdrop is projected to be the city of Agrabah. Emerging from the mist are live actors portraying Aladdin and Jasmine on their magic carpet. They start singing A Whole New World. The water screens animate scenes from the movies that feature some of Disney’s most beloved couples like Wall-E and Eve, Lady and the Tramp, Nala and Simba, Hercules and Megara and Aurora and Phillippe in a regal waltz. A romantic medley of princess songs follow as again three floating stages featuring Ariel and Eric, Belle and Adam and Rapunzel and Flynn pass by the audience. I See the Light, Beauty and the Beast and Part of Your World play and enchant Guests accompanied by lighting and water effects. The floating lanterns from the I See the Light scene appear on the island, accompanied by drones that portray the floating lanterns. One of the lanterns transforms into an unusual shape, changing into Tinkerbell, Peter Pan’s loyal and brave sidekick. She enchants the lagoon and then dodges a loud bang, a cannonball. This can only be coming from Captain Hook’s Pirate Ship, the Jolly Roger. The Sailing Ship Colombia has been transformed into this famed ship of buccaneers and sea robbers. On the ship, a battle between Peter Pan and Hook’s pirate crew pursues. Ultimately dropping Hook into the water, where a barge themed to the Tick Tock Crocodile follows with hunger and excitement.

The scene then transitions again as Mickey dives deep under the sea. Where we see scenes from Finding Nemo, The Little Mermaid and Pinocchio. Live performers form undersea plants, similarly to the ones seen in the jungle scene. Onscreen animation then shows Cleo, Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket underwater. An animated Monstro the Whale interacts with live splash effects on the river. The storyline progresses as Sorcerer Mickey notices his dream becoming darker as he is sucked down a whirlpool on a spell book. After his eyes were shown wondering where he is, a few sinister laughs can be heard. Mickey says ‘’Uh Oh’’ and lights reveal the Magic Mirror who tells Mickey that ‘’True magical power lies within the mirror, gaze deep into your own reflection and see powers better than you could even imagine. Mickey seems hesitant, but eventually decides to take a peek.

He gets trapped inside the mirror and then encounters the Evil Queen who conjures the forces of evil. Although I like who the limited amount of villains is more consistent in Disneyland’s Version of Fantasmic, the line-up of villains expressing their hate for Mickey in the Walt Disney World version seems very strong too. Therefore, I’d like to instead focus on Disney’s evil magic users. Therefore this version would focus on the cooperation between the Evil Queen (seen in front of her magic mirror), Ursula (who passes by as an audio animatronic barge together with her sidekicks Flotsam and Jetsam), Jafar (who appears as gigantic snake audio animatronic), Doctor Facilier (appearing amongst his friends on the other side and gigantic singing masks), Hades (who appears as he conjures fire), Chernabog (who conjures the demons and dead souls) and Maleficent (who appears as an impressive Dragon figure towering from the island as an audio animatronic breathing the river into a sea of flames). Sorcerer Mickey ultimately realizes that he has control over his own imagination and uses his powers to destroy the dragon. As the dragon screams, the villains who have appeared are also destroyed onscreen, and the sequence ends with a pyrotechnic burst from the river.

This good vs evil battle bursts into a collection of happily ever afters from Disney animated films. The Mark Twain Riverboat crosses the stage piloted by a black and white Mickey Mouse, dressed in his Steamboat Willie attire. Approximately fifty Disney and Pixar characters dance on the ship in a ribbon routine accompanied by searchlights, fountains and pyrotechnics. Mickey appears again on the island as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice and conducts laser beams, fireworks and lighting effects that span the length of the river stage. He tells the audience, ‘’Some imagination, huh? Ha ha!’’ and with a laugh, he disappears in a flash as a final burst of pyrotechnics signifies the show’s finale. A green flash of pyrotechnics ignites on the water where river once again becomes quiet and dark. Although not much has altered, I feel like Fantasmic 2.0 is the best version to date, but could still use some elements from Tokyo and Orlando to be even better. Just a spoiler for now, in this alternate universe, Disneyland’s Fantasmic will be the only version of the show, so there will not other versions present at Hollywood Studios or DisneySEA. This is the perfect time to head over to Main Street U.S.A. and the hub for a final kiss good night.

Since I've noticed that the Imagineering forums have become somewhat more abandoned than usual, I'd like to change the format a bit so that it's much easier to read over the posts and much easier for me to post stuff. So from now on, instead of giving full in-depth descriptions of the areas. Each area will receive a more general description of the land's story/theme, its attractions, shops, dining options and entertainment. That doesn't mean that the good ole days of descriptive posts are lost now, but instead I'd like to make it more interest-based than before. If you'd like me to elaborate on something, share more descriptive explanations of what I have envisioned for one attraction, restaurant or even a whole land, you can post a question on this thread. Liberty Street

Adventureland

A pastiche of imaginary colonial spaces, conflated within the green and foliate milieu of the Jungle

Attractions:

- Jungle Cruise: Cast off on a guided tour of the world’s most remote rivers – where dangerous beasts and dry wit abound.

When it comes to Disneyland Resort’s second theme park, Disney’s California Adventure has always kind of lacked the magic and authentic design that most of the other parks received around the world. It is dedicated to the history and culture of California, which celebrates the fun and adventure of the state through the use of various Disney, Pixar and Marvel properties, an approach that makes the park more IP-based, but sort of makes the format of the park a confusing mix of ultra-realistic rides like Grizzly River Rapids and Soarin’ next to Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout and the Incredi-Coaster. For me, the theme of California and its culture wasn’t necessarily a bad idea, but always was sort of limiting when it came to the options that the park had for attractions, lands and shows. Although the Californian culture and history is immensely interesting, it is hard to base a full park with quality rides on that theme. That’s why I’ve decided to broaden the theme and instead base Disneyland Resort’s second theme park on The American Adventure. Walt Disney has always found a place for heritage and history about the United States in his theme parks, and letting Guests walk around a park based on American values and key moments in history would make for an exciting combination of education, thrill and entertainment. It will be largely inspired by the current California Adventure Park and the unbuilt Disney’s America park. The park will have 13 themed areas, of which some will be smaller and some will be larger, but they will all offer exciting experiences for people of all ages and display groundbreaking types of innovation in the entertainment industry.
