World of Motion / Test Track

Can anyone tell me if the area used to display the GM Vehicles is different? To me it seems the same as it was in World of Motion. The only difference is that the end of Test Track moves you in the opposite direction then when it was World of Motion. Also, I tried as hard as I could to see if there were any signs at all of World of Motion. Has anyone found anything?

Cosmetically the area is totally different. Layout wise it is pretty similar, and structurally it is identical.

One of my favorites. I was at epcot last week and the only two rides close to their original are UoE and SSE. I do miss those 80's rides. I was 10 then believe it or not and although I think Disney is trying to make Epcot more appealing to the younger crowd, I find that it is less appealing as you don't learn as much as you used to. BTW: I am still looking to see if anyone can point out any clues that World of Motion existed.

The antique car at the beginning of the queue is from WoM.

If you want to see remnants of WoM, you'll have better luck going through the prop house over at the Back Lot Tour.

What clues do you want? The central core is still there, though you wouldn`t know it as your vehicle climbs to the top floor. The Omnimover elevator is still there, the TT briefing rooms are raised above the original ground level height of holding though in the same place as the original load, and the TransCenter backstage south area is still intact layout-wise.

Aside from that, all physical traces of the attraction itself were removed. The TT briefing rooms are half on the old hold area, half on the old load track. The current queue after briefing uses the old Omni ride mechanical space, and Test Tracks load/unload is exactly on the old unload track. VIP lounge access is also the same as 1982, through the lounge itself was reconfigured to be more employee and less corporate orientated.

Happy 600!

WoM had no direct link to the outside world unlike most other ride systems. Similar to SSE, there was an elevator from the upper to lower level. Between The Wheel speedroom and the Sale Collosus show scene. The entrance was actually track left during the sale scene. Cars could be slid into the elevator and dropped to ground level into a mainatainence bay, or removed from the building via a roller door here.

The shaft itself is still intact, to the left of the tunnel entrance on the mountain road.

Don't forget about Living with the Land. Though it's changed names and opening and closing scenes, the rest of the sets for LWTL are the same as they were in 1982 when the park opened. Even without the boat guides, LWTL seems closer to old EPCOT than do UoE or SSE now.

Thank you! I was about to mention LWTL as being near-identical to opening day, with a couple exceptions. :)

On topic: I've always kinda wondered whether the spiral ramp that the TT cars go up after load is meant as an homage to WOM. I'd imagine it's not the same structure (it spirals in the opposite direction, after all), but is it in the same location as the old ramp?

It is almost in the same place as the old descent bend into unload; the right hand TT bend as you leave load kinks out every so slightly into the old exterior entrance plaza. For a few feet the TT track as you approach dispatch (seat belt check) is in the same place as the WoM track was before the bend into unload - right at the end of the Future Vehicle peppers ghost effect.
