working out for Disney

I'm not into crime documentaries because I won't be able to sleep at night. I tried out the first two seasons of Monster because they were enough dramatization that I could ease my mind over the fiction. The Dahmer one was the better of the two IMO that I watched but even that was a bit rough since there were details that just did not add up and others I knew to be fake. Yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of victim blaming. It always makes me think back on the old Jodie Foster movie, The Accused... which was based on a true story. Not that I watch a ton of tv anymore, but I think this is why I stick to fluffy things like baking shows.
I'm the exact opposite. I can watch the documentaries, but the dramatizations give me nightmares. I think it just gives such a graphic picture that leaves nothing to the imagination and my brain can't tune that out.

Well, it's going to be a while before I can work out again. I missed the last step on the stairs this morning and came down HARD. Sprained both my ankles. We thought the one might be broken and after the initial poking and prodding, they couldn't rule it out, so we had to get some xrays. Thankfully nothing is broken, but they can't tell if anything is torn or anything. I am not allowed to stand on it for 4 days....bed rest except to go to the bathroom. And I do have to get my corona and flu shots tomorrow, but at least I'm already off of work, so if the shots make me sick, I don't have to worry about needing to stay in bed. I'm not going anywhere anyway.

We had 4 trick or treaters tonight. 6 if you count the two times A came downstairs and absconded with candy, without wearing a costume. Rude! But this is why we hid the candy in E's room..."we" meaning E and me. We bought a bunch, but every year, I buy a bunch and put it in a big bowl and tell the boys to stay out of it, it's for Halloween. And every day, A says "I wish it was Halloween so I could have candy." and then my husband says "Well there's plenty there...you can have some." and then every year, I end up having to go buy more because there's hardly any left by Halloween. So this year, E and I bought it on the sly and hid it in her room so they boys didn't even know we had it. DH asks today "Do we have candy?" Yes. Yes we do. Because I hid it and didn't tell you I had it so you guys couldn't eat it all before Halloween!

I was good. I didn't eat any of it. I really wanted to after the day I had.
GIF by American Idol

(Long story short, I had to call the police because there was a buck naked man walking down the street and I really didn't know how to handle it)
But I was a good girl. No self-medicating with Halloween snacks.

I had started watching the new netflix series about the Ed Gein story, but it's a dramatization, not a documentary, and it's just too creepy. So I watched the documentary about the daughter of the BTK killer, and a documentary called Audrie and Daisy about girls who are assaulted and get bullied so much afterwards that they try to commit suicide. It's really sad. So I watched those, and I only had to get up twice to answer the door. E had a birthday party to go to for her friend Bart. His birthday happens to be on Halloween, so she's not going to be home until after midnight. I was hoping there'd be more trick or treaters. Last year, there was a whole organized thing with about 30 kids. But Halloween is a new thing here, and they don't seem to understand what it really is...they only know what they've seen in horror movies. So last year, they stationed machete-wielding clowns, and zombies chasing kids down with chainsaws as they walked past to trick or treat. I had 4 year olds in tears at my door, having just been chased down by who knows which of the many haunted-house figures placed throughout the neighborhood. They didn't realize that that is ONLY in haunted houses, for older teens and adults, NOT on the street where small children are trick or treating. So I don't know if maybe parents chose not to let their kids do it this year? I heard that the woman who orgainized it last year moved, but I really thought some of the parents might at least bring their kids out, even without the whole organized "event".

We only had the door bell ring once. My son answered it, it sounded like 2-3 little girls. We had way too much candy left over and freezing it didn't slow down its consumption. lol

I just watched this series about John Wayne Gacy. I started watching it, then I went to pick it up again and I thought it was the same series, but it was a docuseries with the same name. I thought that was a bit more interesting, because there were interviews with the detectives and prosecutors involved with the case, so you got info from the source instead of a screenplay that can take liberties to fill in the blanks.

I hate when people do scary stuff to little kids. When my son was 5, I took him trick or treating. We stopped at this house that had a scarecrow propped up in a chair and a bowl of candy near it. The scarecrow was a grown man who should have known better. He jumped up as my son was picking up a piece of candy, shouted "BOO!" and my son started screaming and crying. I jumped up too and I asked the guy what the (beep) was wrong with him. Save that for the older kids. That was it for the day for my son. He was done, he was afraid of being scared again.

Good morning and happy first week of November! I cannot believe we're already past Halloween! Speaking of...I allowed myself to have fun on Halloween. I ate candy and made a "dip." The dip had a cheesecake base, a layer of caramel sauce, hot fudge (that was really just room temp), Heath Bar crumble and then a mix of candy corn and caramel apple candies. I had sugar cookies for dipping but Twix bars and Kit Kats worked just as well. A little boy asked what it was and he actually told me it was too much! In some ways, it was good that it was so sweet because it kept me from gorging myself on candy. I have about 95% of it left, so I froze it for a Thanksgiving project. In fact, I think I still would have been in a calorie deficit had I not been drinking mudslides 🤣 Either way, one night isn't going to hurt my progress, and I ate well the rest of the day, didn't indulge in anything crazy later on when I got the munchies (I think I had 5-6 Saltines) and I walked over 6 miles that morning in addition to standing and dancing around at my desk. I actually weighed myself for the heck of it after my long walk yesterday and the scale finally said what I was hoping it would the other day. Actually, it was down one more pound than I expected. So, just more movement towards taking actions to teach myself that I can enjoy here and there without derailing the process. Next weigh in will be around Thanksgiving.

I'm getting a little bit nervous for this weekend. I'm flying to Phoenix on Friday night with Sam for softball. The TSA lines at the airports have been kind of crazy due to the shutdown issues. Hopefully we don't have any issues coming or going.

Hope you had an easy time getting through TSA. That's never fun.

That's great about enjoying treats and realizing it's not an all or nothing proposition to lose weight. This time of year kicks off a dangerous time for me. lol

Oh, no. I am sorry to read this. Both ankles. Yikes! After 4 days of bed rest, then what happens? Do they reexamine your ankles to look for torn ligaments?

Hello-

I've been doing Fitness Blender workouts. I bought several of their programs years ago and I've been doing one of them. I was able to make a workout schedule that will take me to the end of the year. Today was a lower body strength and power workout. I am going to a walk later. It's very blustery and not so warm. I swear, it looks like it could snow any time.

Callie has been spending more time indoors since it's gotten chilly outside. A few weeks ago, she killed and ate a mourning dove. She graciously left the parts she didn't want to eat on the mat just outside of my sliding door. She always gets ill after eating wildlife. I wish she would stop. It kills her appetite and she loses weight. She was sleeping overnight on the couch and she wouldn't move from it. That's unusual for her, she usually waits in the hall for someone to wake up. We were feeding her on the couch. She was inside most of the time and when she wasn't, she was in her little house. My husband bought vital colostrum. We mixed it into some wet food. After a few days, she got better, now maybe it was a coincidence, but I noticed her tail had more movement to it. She's totally better now, but I still give her the colostrum. I figure additional dietary help couldn't hurt going into the winter. It's supposed to help with GI health, muscle and joints and the immune system. She's back to normal, doing her cat parkour off of the roof, chasing chipmunks, and defending her kingdom from would-be usurpers. :cat:

Aw, that's so sad he did that to your son. It's all well and good for teenagers, but not the littles!!

Do you know what the Gacy one was called? I may have already seen it.

Apparently I can take the bandages off and that's it. If it's still causing problems in a month or two, I go back and have them look, and otherwise I'm free. I have to say, I'm walking a lot easier today, so I think it will be fine by the end of the week. I'm looking forward to a nice shower tomorrow after I take the bandage off!! But the one that's not bandaged is a bit less swollen today. We're getting there.

I so hope that you get better. This is going to be 6+ months for me from my original injury. I don't wish it on anyone.

I'm so sorry to hear about your injuries. Hopefully it's nothing more than simple sprains with no tears or hidden breaks. The fact that you're already walking easier is a very good sign...at least from our experiences. Less swelling and taking a nice shower area also big!

Hope you had an easy time getting through TSA. That's never fun.

That's great about enjoying treats and realizing it's not an all or nothing proposition to lose weight. This time of year kicks off a dangerous time for me. lol

TSA wasn't bad at Houston's Hobby. It was no more than 5 minutes. TSA in Phoenix wasn't awful, but it was closer to 30 (vs the advertised 13) and I guess I looked suspicious because I got a full body groping from a female agent. I was not pleased. It's really the delays and cancellations that impacted us and our group. A number of us had to be rebooked due to canceled flights. We were delayed several hours on our outbound. It was bad enough that when we started getting delay updates for our flight home, I decided to just rebook us onto an earlier flight. Thankfully, there was space, we were done playing early enough, that flight was never canceled, and we left pretty close to on time. Ugh...I am just praying this is fixed by the time we fly next month. I cannot imagine having to fly through Atlanta to get to OH in this kind of madness.

It is a dangerous time of year for eating. My first big hurdle was the summer and tons of travel. This is my next big challenge. I've been trying to figure out a plan. I think some of it is just not cooking in excess so that there's less food to be tempted to eat in excess. Without fail, each year, we make so much more than we need...even for leftovers. I also practiced a little around my birthday with using the freezer as my friend to keep that food from being fit from going immediately into my mouth. That casserole dish of leftover mac & cheese is still tucked away in the deep freeze. I had similar success with some cookies and buttercream, but also found that the deep freeze vs. the regular freezer is the better storage option if I want to save these treats for must have moments down the road (vs. snacking out of convenience or stress).

A little midweek check in since I was traveling on Monday, dealing with a sinus infection, and now just trying to get back to normal. I had so much congestion in the mix when flying on Monday that I could barely hear after landing. The pain from the pressure and fluid was so bad during landing that I was ready to start crying like the infants in the row across from me. I am improving but I'm just in no mood to be sick.

Being under the weather, I was not able to do as much while we were on the road. Friday was our travel day but I still tried to get some things in. I was up early, just naturally, so I walked about 7.25 miles before work. I also put in a bit of a home workout before heading to the airport...barre style leg and hip workout + an ab workout with the medium sized exercise ball. Saturday, after getting to AZ and in our Airbnb (around 2am) I put in a 7.5 mile walk. That was it because it was technically a break day. The following day, I hit the closest Planet Fitness for my standard high intensity elliptical session followed by leg day. Later on in the day, I walked at the fields...approx 5.15 miles. Monday was more of a mess since it was a play day and a travel day. They had an early start and I was behind trying to get us on a different flight, so I got in about a 3 mile walk. No time for the gym, but I got in a lot of physical activity trying to repack our bags at the fields after the end of play and with outfit changes...plus maneuvering the airport. Yesterday, I took a sick day because I was pretty miserable but I have found that moving and exercising can sometimes help me when I've got congestion. So, I walked and hit the gym. It wasn't the greatest but I felt better than I did just sitting and focusing on my discomfort. Something with the walking also helped relieve some of the pressure in my ears because I went from about 15% to 85%. Of course, that blast I felt when most of it cleared was unpleasant but glad it happened.

That's your "not able to do as much"?? How often do you take rest days?? I was working out for about an hour a day when my hip went all wonky and I got bursitis the first time. I've discovered that I just can't do so much...my body doesn't cope with that much exercise. I can do walking, even for a few hours, but I can't do the intense aerobic stuff every day. Not that I can do anything right now, but normally, when I DON'T have 2 sprained ankles, I can only do that a few times a week. You seem to be making great progress, but don't burn yourself out!!

I got to take my bandage off today and my ankle is still a bit swollen and it's really pretty colors! I'm going to try showering in a bit. I've been doing sponge baths, but I REALLY need to wash my hair now...I think I'll use the crutches to get me to the bathroom and back, but obviously I can't use them in the shower and I don't have a chair I can put in, so it may be an adventure. Wish me luck!

It took a while to build up to all of this. It may not seem like it, but I'm actually holding back quite a bit while pushing growth in the most meaningful ways I can at the time. There's a lot of reevaluation and revamping as I go. I don't want to bore you to death with all of the little details and nuances but if I start feeling bored or burned out after being consistent for a sufficient span of time for noticeable effects, I change things up in a variety of ways to keep the progress going. This applies to everything from the true workouts and the daily walking to all of the nutritional aspects. I also thankfully don't have two sprained ankles, so I'm fairly free to keep pushing myself towards the next set of goals. In fact, I feel like a revamp may be coming soon, but not sure exactly what. We're not talking massive changes, but just something meaningful to step things up. I have some ideas but need to do a little research and test some things on a slow time/day so I'm not making a fool of myself in a packed gym.

Happy Friday!!!

No scale for at least another week, but I have a non-scale victory (actually two) that I wanted to share. OK, it might be a bit more graphic or personal (but not really inappropriate), but it's a big one that led to another victorious realization involving a couple of old dresses.

So, I had to go into the office twice this week and both days I found myself reaching for a couple of old dresses that I've held onto over the years. In both cases, they're long dresses that pair really well with tops to give more a skirt appearance. In any event, while I was wearing a shapewear bodysuit each day, I realized I no longer own any shapewear that shapes down through my thighs. That also means nothing to protect from inner thigh chaffing (aka - chub rub). Now, I have always had thicker thighs, but before 2000, they were just muscular. I believe it was June of 2000, when I was wearing a dress to walk around Vegas, I noticed my thighs were rubbing and I was eventually in excruciating pain from the eventual chaffing and subsequent bleeding. That had never happened to me before and it became an issue from that day on...even when I was at smaller sizes...until this week! The two dresses I wore this week were purchased in early summer of 1997. It was not my slimmest but it was around the last time I was able to fit into my super tiny college apparel. The dresses are stretchy, so I didn't immediately notice any real differences. It wasn't until I worked a full day in dress 1, with a lot of walking, when I noticed there was no chub rub with my thighs! Like none! A friend who has known me for over 25 years insists I look smaller than I did when she met me. I didn't initially believe her, but when I got home, I looked at myself in the dress alone and realized that it has not fit quite like this since when I first bought it. It was a similar case yesterday with the second dress. It fit pretty comparably to how it did in June of 1997...and once again, lots of walking, but no rubbing of my thighs. There's still work to be done, but it's wild to me that my body is approaching size territory from over 28 years ago.

Edit- OK, third victory...waist measurement down nearly another full inch. :) For what it's worth, I am going to have to start measuring other areas because that part of my waist can't get much smaller. So, I think it's time to shift to tracking my hips/glutes/lower waist since there is still room there to go down. Either way, today's measurement was a big (well, really small) goal since I have not seen anything around that number in 31 years.

Happy Monday!!! It's almost Thanksgiving! Yay Bird-Day :)

This past weekend was my first one in a while with no softball, where I could enjoy my normal weekend fitness routine. I had two days of long walks (9.45 mi on Sat/9.75 mi on Sun), a leg unwind on my stationary bike at home (10.10 mi Sat/10.04 mi Sun)...which also gives me a break from my gym elliptical session, and then leg day Saturday and arm day Sunday...both at the gym. I also did some newish stuff. Saturday, I tried the machine where you kneel in the "tray" and either can do dips or pullups. So, I guess I still lack the upper body strength to really do this because I wound up on the floor for both. All I could do was laugh at myself. I didn't want to push too hard and hurt myself but I tried. Yesterday, I added in the chair style contraption for vertical knee raises, since that's a great one for lower abs. I actually surprised myself with how much strength and stamina I had for that one. Both days, I also treated myself to a hydro-bed massage at the end, since I was a bit achy and it is included in my membership. It seems to have helped a bit with my leg cramps as well. Today was back to a normal walk. I put in 5.53 miles, which is pretty decent for a weekday for me.

I also have another two victories to share.
1. Scale Victory - I wasn't planning to weight until next week but my mind was up for it...whatever it had to say, and I was feeling "smaller" - if that makes any sense. I also wanted some honesty after indulging a bit in Arizona and not being able to work out as hard a couple of the days. The scale was down another 6 pounds from my last weigh in. So, I'm still moving in the right direction. To be honest, I was not expecting that much of a drop, but I'll take it. I'm now officially below my lowest weight in 2019/2020.
2. David and I butted heads again about all of this...which may not seem like a non-scale victory...but I stood up for myself again and didn't cave to him saying that healthy me isn't as much fun. The real victory in this was sharing that this is the first time I've achieved this kind of weight and fitness without either starving myself, using diet pills, and/or binging and purging. That realization is a huge victory, so that's what I think of him saying I'm not as fun.
3. The jeans - Remember those jeans I bought to replace the ones Kendall temporarily swiped? Well, they finally button and zip. I'll need some shapewear under them for a bit, but I recall that not too long ago I wondered if they should just be handed over to Sam. There's still a mental game with them though. I will have to share a pic...

IMG_9427.jpeg

The top pair is the pair Kendall swiped from me that just started to fit in August. The middle pair is one size smaller than the top pair (different cut, but same brand and rise) and just recently started fitting well enough to be worn out. The bottom pair is the pair I bought to replace the top pair. They are supposedly the same everything as the top pair but are obviously smaller than even the middle pair. It messes with my mind that the middle pair and the top pair have the exact same labeling inside but are obviously so different in size. THIS! This is why women hate shopping for jeans!!!!
