Hello-
Checking in with a kettlebell workout. I just feel like doing quick workouts right now.
I got back from Chicago last night. What a fun weekend. Our hotel was just down the street from the Art Institute and was a 5 min walk. Our room wasn't ready, so we left our bags with bell services and walked to the Art Institute. We spent a couple of hours in there. The weather was beautiful. We ate at this restaurant called the Dearborn. It was like an upscale tavern-type place. I had a really nice salad and a couple of glasses of Pino Grigio. Saturday, we got up early-ish and walked up and down Michigan Avenue, just to see what has changed. Then we went to a massive music festival in Grant Park.

I don't think I have been in such a large crowd before. It was good vibes and no trouble. After that, we just ate in the hotel lounge for dinner.Sunday's big excursion was an architecture on the Chicago River. The weather was really nice Friday and Saturday, but it rained Saturday night and ushered in much cooler air. The cruise was open air and I spent the next 90 minutes shivering. lol I was wishing I'd packed my fleece-lined leggings. But it was fun. At night, we ate dinner at a place called Beatnik on the River.
I was looking forward to this place the most. It was slightly disappointing. It's a really funky, unique restaurant. It's like Trader Vic's crossed with an opium den in the nicest way. The patio on the street has lots of tropical type plants surrounding it, so it looks like a lush jungle. We got there a little early because it didn't take us as long Google Maps said it would. So, the host told us we could sit at the bar and get a drink. So, we did and we closed out the tab when our table was ready and brought our drinks with us. The bar and part of the restaurant are at street level, but there is a structure that cantilevers out onto the river down a couple of flights of stairs. We got one of the coveted riverside tables. We waited for 20 min for someone to acknowledge us and I was beginning to wonder if this was a "too cool for the room" type restaurant. Our waiter came over and said in a disappointed tone, " Oh, I see you brought drinks down from the bar. Are you ready to order?" So, I asked if this was tapas-type of place and he said, "Some dishes are bigger than others." OK, then. I felt like he didn't want me asking lots of questions, because he offered no information when he came to the table. We ordered a bunch of different types of skewers and halloumi fries. Then he wanted to know if we wanted fresh drinks. My husband got another drink, but I didn't because I still had lot left and I wanted to try different one with my dinner. So, we didn't see him until after our food came out and he asked how everything was and I said, "Great, could I get layover spritz? He went, "Ugh" and then stormed off. Dude, seriously? Because I didn't order a drink when you wanted me to? We never saw him after that. I think his shift ended or something, because another, much friendlier server took over. The food was really good, though. My husband loved it. I might go back if he wanted, to give it another chance. This guy might have been having a bad night or something.
Then yesterday, we walked around the lakefront, in Millennium Park and Grant Park. Fun weekend. No harm came to us. We took the L to and from Midway. We walked everywhere, even at night. It's like visiting any other big city where you keep your wits about you and do a vibe check in your immediate surroundings.
