Working in Magic Kingdom Questions.

Ok, I have been looking around for a Job, and I really really love The Magic Kingdom, and I thought the other day "It would be awesome to work here"
So I have a couple questions.

1. Can you apply at City Hall? (Or where besides online)
2. What Pre-Employment testing do they do? (Like Drug testing, ect.)

You can't get an application from the park.
They have a job line you can call to set up an interview.

Expect a criminal background check and drug test.

Adding to Lee's post. Their criminal background check (at least what we have been told pre-employment wise for the college program) is that you are finger printed and those are sent in and used as part of your background check. I've never been at a job that finger prints you but I have been told that Disney does.

You may be able to request where you want to work, but it certainly won't be a guarantee. You will be hired for a functional area (Merchandise, Attractions, Custodial, etc) and then go where there is a need. If there are openings in MK, they will put you wherever they need you and it can be anywhere on property that has that function.

Do you know when they started doing that? I never had either one done when I worked for the mouse (and I suspect if they did them, a lot of the CM's wouldn't have been there)

You probably signed something saying that they would be doing one on you. They can use just your name and social security number to get a pretty thorough background check. If nothing major (like child abuse or ______ offender or penitentiary time) is found then they just let you keep working. It takes most companies 24 to 48 hours to get the full background check done so by the time you got through traditions they either know that you are at least ok on paper or you get pulled from the position before you ever make public contact. A lot of companies actually do the background check before you are ever offered the job and the warning of that is given to you in the application.

Remember just because someone does things like drugs or drinks a lot doesn't mean they have ever been arrested for it so it wouldn't be on a background check.

No, I mean when I started working there, very few people actually had background checks performed. I am quite certain none was performed for me.

I know of CM's that lied about qualifications, and hid criminal backgrounds who to this day still work for the mouse.

Same as Shortty; I was fingerprinted but never drug tested. I've never heard of them doing drug tests, either. But I assume at some point I signed something that said I'd consent to one if they asked. I think doing drug tests on everyone would simply be to costly for Disney.

Jobs process.

Since I live 15 minutes from Disney I applied and got an interview scheduled. During this process I was heartbroken as part-time positions requirements, you had to give Disney 2-3 full days of service. I had filled out all the hrs, holidays, weekends I can work which would not effect my full time job but to no avail. I even informed the interviewer that the weekends (2 full days) were no issue for me but it was not enough so with a cheerful "sorry" I was sent on my way. That was not a "magical" day for me, but I still have hopes in the future this requirement will change.

My wife and daughter both have their traditions class tomorrow. They were both fingerprinted, but not drug tested. They did, however, have to sign a paper consenting to possible random drug screenings.

I was never finger printed (I did a CP then full time) until I was getting ready to be certified for pyrotechnics as a full time entertainment tech (which is an ATF thing, not a Disney thing), but this was in 2008, so don't know if it changed by then. Same thing drug test wise, didn't happen until I became a tech.
