sxeensweet

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
How far along is the construction ?? Want to stay there in Oct 2016 but don't want to if pool,is still closed etc...

Unfortunately construction is planned to go all the way through 2017 so no it will not probably be completed when you are looking to go. :)

The main pool is still open as it was already redone prior to this construction. It only is the Silver Springs pool that has been removed. Which of course is a bummer since this was the pool open 24 hours. I was checking out rates at WL and they are highly discounted. I checked out our annual trip and it is quite a bit cheaper and that is within out any discounted applied.

The construction did not have any impact on my stay. We never use the beach or the hidden springs pool. I did notice a large amount of trees being removed to accommodate the new water side villas. The area near the boat dock has been cleared. I hope they don't ruin the secluded environment that we have grown to love at the Wilderness.

Back at home on 12/22/15 from a stay a WLV. The contractors have clear cut vast areas and construction of the cabins has not begun. The quiet pool is gone as well as the hot tub. The main WL pool has been fenced in and looks terrible. Why it is fenced in is beyond me (if for safety - how come it was unsafe from WL construction until now?) Construction did not impact our stay at the villas at all.

All new or refurbished Disney resort pools are now fenced to keep the pools exclusively for resort guests only (MagicBand required for entry), and for safety and liability purposes (the building codes have changed over the years.)

Yep. I wish the new fences were a little less sloppily executed, but the concept of fenced-in pools is here to stay.

Under Florida statutes, residential pools have had to be fenced for years. But I thought there was an exemption for hotel pools; guess that's changed.

Yes very poorly executed pool fence.
its been up for a year.
I could have been incorporated into the soundings instead of thrown in just anywhere.

Although the fence is different, new within the last year/main pool refurbishment, I disagree that it is poorly executed. The color, structure and design blend in nicely with the Wilderness Lodge resort theming. I for one will enjoy the magic band entrance feature when it is installed which will not allow for resort pool hopping.

Have you seen the fence "transition" at the bridge in front of Silver Creek Falls (think that's what it's called)?

Sure have many times. Granted that is not ideal but I wouldn't refer to the design as sloppy. For those who have not visited I think that description leads to something the fence is not in my opinion. The fence is very nicely build and blends into the WL theme quite well I believe.

It's a matter of opinion, but this would be sloppy on my backyard deck. Let alone at a deluxe resort at Walt Disney World:

Sorry that is the fencing by the bridge/waterfall and side entrance. I was referring to the fencing around the pool with the woodland details. But at the same time I am not sure what is "sloppy" about the fencing right here. In all reality it doesn't matter everyone is entitled to their own opinion and some may see this in whatever vision they see.

I wish I had a photo of it, but the new fencing along the bridge right next to the pool side bar is quite awkward. It's made for a very narrow walkway along the bridge as they had to place a fence right down the center to separate pool guests from guests just crossing the bridge outside the pool boundaries. It's a pain when you have strollers and wheelchairs going in opposite directions.

Oh, how true. Had spouse in wheelchair for last visit and this area of the walkway was very congested almost every time we passed this way. (This was the best route to the Villas.) Hopefully they will find some way to correct it before the next visit. Very little thought was put into the fencing along this area - possibly they just could have widened the walkway in that area and not harm the viewing of the geyser.

Yep it's the combination of lost children drowning (although a fence wouldn't have helped in the last case) and attempting to keep out non-residents that mean all refurbished main pools now have fences.

It's going to take them 2 years to build a swimming pool?
No, probably only a year to 15 months to build a pool and new restaurant next to it. The area should open early 2017.
