Wizarding World expanding - Lost Continent says goodbye

At least, according to Rupert Grint

It seems within the next 2-3 years, Potter will gain ground and eventually wipe out the Lost Continent.

I just visited IoA back in July and I don't mind this happening at all. The Lost Continent is a miniscule area at this point, with the only attraction being Poseidon's Revenge, which is a shell of its former self. The attraction hasn't aged well at all and the main effect, the water tunnel, doesn't work. I wouldn't mind seeing the show building being turned into something else.

I think Uni will let the initial crowd craze blow over before having all the Potter fans come right back.

^All of the water effects for Poseidon's Fury were turned back on a few weeks ago. The attraction looks much better now than it did even a month ago.

Somehow, an expansion doesn't seem to surprise me.

But with the final movie coming out, would the current fans be enough to merit more space? Something to consider.

Potter has reached its peak. Much like Star Wars even though it is over as a story series it will be hugely succesful as a piece and part of popular culture for a long time but it does not warrant anymore attractions and Universal knows they do not need to add anymore. Not to mention once you have too much of a good thing like that you start to cancel out people who are not that into potter. Parks need variety. Potter already has more than any other single franchise at any single theme park.

After all the hassle it took to get this project going Universal does not need to spend anymore to have a benefit right now.

Expect expansion in terms of The Wizarding World in the terms of Holiday celebrations and such rather than actually expanding the land and attractions.

Question

When did we start applying a double standard to Universal Employees? If a Disney CM was giving a tour of a park and said that they're expanding Adventureland into a huge Pirates mini-park people would laugh that rumor away. A Universal CM does the same thing and people treat it as a fact? What the hell? :veryconfu

If any land needs a new attraction, it is Jurassic Park. I wonder if the next project for IOA may be the long awaited jungle jeeps?

I would doubt it but ya never know. They have a good creative team and budgeting going right now it seems.

Also if anything I think Trike Encounters and trails would return. Its no jeep tour adventure but at least it would be something that deserves to be there..and amped up if given the chance.

Let me get this straight: Harry Potter, the most successful books in the history of literature, and the most successful franchise in film history (with two more still to come), doesn't warrant an expansion. Yet, Jurassic Park, whose last film debuted nearly 10 years ago, is in need of expansion???

There have always been plans to open Harry Potter's land in phases. What we have now is phase 1, there have always been discussions of a 2nd phase.

Yes there have been, but so were how many other Disney an Universal projects? Sure, there has been information on an expansion, the real question is if what this CM is reporting is actual current news and updates, or just an echo of months, years old information.

I'm willing to bet it's an echo. Just like all Cast Member rumors. Only difference is now that we have people, news sites, that are new to this echo chamber and can't tell the difference.

MuggleNet has the best of intentions, but I still think they're wrong.

He said "Jurassic Park needs a new attraction," not "Jurassic Park is more popular than Harry Potter." And he's right. JP has needed another attraction for a long time, especially since Trikes closed.

Wizarding World, which JUST opened, does NOT need an immediate expansion, no matter how popular it is.

You keep mentioning that a CM said this.

Rupert Grint is not a CM. He is the actor who plays Ron and has been involved in the creation of the Wizarding World. He announced this to the world. That carries more credibility than your idea of a college-bound CM. I have absolutely no idea where you got that a CM said this, unless you completely skipped the original post.

the article does not say that Rupert Grint said that. what Rupert Grint confirmed was Recently there had been word that the massive Leavesden Studios in England, wherein much of the Harry Potter film series was filmed, would be turned into a Potter-themed museum and attraction

. here is a quote directly from the article

"
Mugglenet has a reader report saying that during a recent tour through the Potter attraction and nearby Islands of Adventure, the Universal guide said that the Lost Continent aspect of the Islands of Adventure would be replaced in two or three years by an expanded Wizarding World. The site says this is in line with rumored agreements between Uni and Warner <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: #2b65b0; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_4_0>Bros.</NOBR> to provide additions to the Potter park within the next couple years.

1. Rupert Grint didn't say this.

2. He wasn't involved in the creation of anything. He's an actor, not a theme park designer.

No, Harry Potter does warrant an expansion, but it did just open. Jurassic Park area only has the one ride (2 if you count the flyers, but not many people can actually ride those). All the other "Islands" are much more developed.

dont forget camp jurassic which by far one of the coolest play areas ever created. the only expansion i could see is perhaps the helicopter tour simulator where the current defunct triceratops encounter sits. heck just reopen that and ill be satisfied.

Harry Potter = WB
Jurassic Park = only thing UNIVERSAL related in the UNIVERSAL park.

And I actually enjoy the fact that there is not a bunch of movie tie in isalnds. Sure Potter is mostly inspired by the movies since that is what most people think visuals with the films also being very popular but it does have a book basis and I really like that IOA is not just Universal themed properties. If so, than it would just be the same concept as their studio park.

I am fond of the theme of adventure using often timeless or huge pop culture impact concepts.
