With the Price Increases and Cuts, Are you Delaying your Visit?

When are you planning on going to WDW next?

  • This Year (2016)

  • Next Year when Avatar opens (2017)

  • 2018

  • 2019

  • Not until Star Wars Land finally opens

  • No Way. I can't afford to go anymore.

In an unpopular opinion, we still feel that WDW is a great value! Have been going to Disney since my dad took us to California to see "That park Mr. Disney built for families". We have traveled all over the world, and dollar for dollar, there are few vacations that give you the bang for the buck that WDW does. Combine it with the fact that even after 60 years to DL, and 40+ to WDW we still find new experiences every trip; not really finding the "cutbacks" will outweigh all the new things being added.

You're right. Not only is it an unpopular opinion, but I haven't the foggiest clue where your coming from nor how to relate.

Already had hotel and tickets booked, so I'm going and the increase didn't affect me. However, if I hadn't bought the tickets yet, the price increase for multidays would have made me consider buying less days.

I have a cruise next month with tickets I bought last year, so yes, I'll be going. A better question would be, "if you didn't have trip planned, would you be going this year"?
Yup.
That should be the question since many of us have already booked and paid for our trips this year.
Our May trip is a done deal, Good Lord willing, but we may have to reconsider future trips until they get the new park areas finished.

There are few comparative family destinations that can be as relatively affordable as a WDW vacation, certainly the park tickets remain cheaper the longer the trip. The news and rumors board is filled with the announcements of what is being cutback and closed, but there is so much new value being added that as a long time visitor I am content. The poll should have included an "all of the above" option. :)

As you can see from my previous posts, some of us are in the price insensitive category.

For us it boils down to:
  • are we still enjoying ourselves
  • does the food meet our requirements and standards
  • are the accommodations clean and in good repair ?
  • are the cast members still professional and not down trodden ?
  • are the attractions mechanically sound and in good repair ?
  • do we maintain our current position in Disney stock without reservations ?

Disney is no longer an affordable vacation destination except for the 1%. If that's where you're coming from? Thats all i need to know about you, honey.

We have a week trip planned at the end of March and another 3 days that I just booked for the end of October. It's Disney and we will make the best of it regardless of what changes they make.

Wow, Dave, we usually agree on most things. Nope, not even close to the 1%, and appreciate the "Honey." :)
I have no clue where he got the idea that someone who boasts about 100+ collective trips to Disney, plus traveling the world, would be in the 1%.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I cannot blame the guy for making such a bold assumption.

I think I'll be waiting until Toy Story and Star Wars are completed.
1. I honestly don't care about Avatar. The movie was absolute tripe. The only good thing about this land is that it will give new attractions so hopefully Disney can get off their duff and fix Expedition Everest...and then possibly look at scrapping Kali in favor of revitalizing Tiger River Rapids.(yeah, pipe dream, I know. But still fun to think about)

2. EPCOT is going to suck for the foreseeable future once "Let it Go: Ride It Out!" opens. Whole damn quarter of the park is going to be swarming with little Ilsas and Elsas and helicopter parents complaining about alcohol being served "in a place for kids".

To be painfully honest here, I think it was fairly obvious that the question was directed at people who haven't thought about it yet or are just starting too. It would be silly if you already have plans, paid for a trip, to change because of a problem that we aren't even sure what the degree of impact will be. I, for example, do not have one planned, but, I do these things more spontaneous then most, I guess. My last trip wasn't even a thought until 9 days before I actually went. However, like I said, the fact that I am not intending to go this year, isn't because of the cuts or price changes, it's more that I would rather wait until there are more things to see that I haven't seen already.

Sorry, didn't mean it to come off as boastful. My dad brought me up that money spent on family travel was never the money that got one in trouble. World travel to military bases and mission work gives a good insight to economics in lots of areas both domestic and foreign.
Don't quite get why responding to the original question gets such hostility, I don't ask that everyone agree with me. I love WDW, have been privileged to go on many trips over the years, and plan on continuing to enjoy our trips as long as we are able. We work hard for our trips, like everyone else. Still see WDW as a great value- when we started, there were no Value resorts, and ticket books were still the only option. 2 1/2 hour waits were often the norm, so forgive me if I still see lots of improvement and value in a Disney trip.

2016 - we have points that are going away soon. We haven't seen NFL, all of the new night time DAK offerings, new Soarin / Frozen ride and various other things at the WDW. Haven't stayed on site for several days since 2011. Hopefully in between Thanksgiving and Christmas won't be too crowded. Maybe the new price structure will have people go September and October.
After that, it will be a wait till Avatar and Satr Wars Kand are up and running.

I was already locked into my March trip when all this stuff was announced. But...I'll likely be second guessing doing another trip in the near future. Not because I can' afford it, but because there are still plenty of places in this world I still need to see, limited time do it and I'm not rewarding bad behavior by the Disney brass.

I've been 2 years in a row now, 2014 and 2015, with friends and then family. I'll probably pass on going back to wdw for the next few years. I still have dreams of traveling to Europe.
My thoughts exactly (maybe even sneak in a Disneyland Paris visit ;-) )

And with the Price of Disney right now, probably wouldn't be that much more expensive either...

Our APs are up for renewal in May. Honestly, at this point I'm leaning toward not renewing. I'm angry about the price gouging and cutbacks, but at this point, it's mostly about the crowds. I just don't enjoy going to the parks very much anymore because the lines are so long (and are exacerbated by FP+ at my favorites, like HM). Our Universal APs are much greater value and the parks are more enjoyable at this point, so we'll probably keep those.

I just got $400 round trip tickets to Paris with a stopover in Iceland! Hotels about $30-$40 a night. With the US dollar so strong traveling the world has never been so affordable. (And Disney less affordable)
