I like it! One question...where would this be located? In Hollywood Studios or somewhere else?
Good question; I was not sure where this would be best. Depending on the DHS upgrades, it would be great to go in the Muppet area there, but I think it would also be great in Disney Springs.

Happy Friday folks!

Today, I was listening to some old school country, and I mean OLD school country: bluegrass. Which got me to thinking about Frontierland.

As a kid, I loved Frontierland. It was a chance to step back to an adventurous time and be a cowboy! I feel like Frontierland has lost some of that immersiveness. Perhaps it's just because I'm older, but I want Frontierland to feel more like a good old Western Town. I also really love the Disney movie "The Apple Dumpling Gang" and its sequel, "The Apple Dumplinh Gang Rides Again". If you have not seen either of these movies, I highly reccommend them! They are both great family flicks. Also, my idea may not make a whole lot of sense if you haven't seen the movies.

What if Frontierland had an interactive show similar to the Jedi Training at DHS, but instead of being a jedi, you can get recruited to be in the Apple Dumpling gang? Don Knotts and Tim Conway (Cast Members playing them) could recruit the kids to help them with a stage coach robbery!

I haven't worked out all of the details; so you can consider this more of a bare bones concept. Feel free to comment below with some feedback! How would you use the Apple Dumpling Gang in the parks? How would you revitalize Frontierland? Could we bring back the Western River Expedition with the Apple Dumpling Gang? Let me know! :)

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way....

Yup, that's right; now that Halloween is over, it's CHRISTMAS TIME BABY!! Break out the fruit cake and the nativity scenes and let's party!

Oh wait, it's not December yet? Dang it, I forgot about November again. Oh yeah! Thanksgiving! That's a holiday too!

And I think it is an excellent holiday that can be overshadowed by Christmas Fever. My concept for today is somewhat ambitious, but I think it should be a thing. Disney hosts holiday events; why not have holiday-specific attractions? Why not have a section of a park dubbed "Holiday Land", where there would be rides for popular holidays celebrated in the USA, such as Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas? The other neat thing is that if this idea was in another country, Holiday Land could have completely different attractions based on that area's holidays.

The possibilities are quite endless. What about a boat dark-ride based on Darby O'Gill and the Little People? That would work well for a St. Patrick's Day ride. What about a Christmas ride based on Prep and Landing (one of my new favorite Christmas shorts by the way!) similar to Buzz Lightyear's space ranger spin?

Let me know what you think! Play around with the idea and make your own Holiday Land, and if you know some international holidays that would make for cool rides or coasters, I'm all ears!

I've always thought that a holiday themed land would have worked well in the area where Storybook Circus is now in MK, but I never thought of making it for all the holidays like St Patrick's Day. I think that a fully dedicated Christmas land would be spectacular, using Prep and Landing for a ride like the one you mentioned and the Rankin and Bass IP's (Rudolph, Frosty, etc) for a large scale dark ride combining all of their characters, along with holiday themed Disney characters for a show, maybe Snowed in at the House of Mouse on a large scale? Also, something Nightmare Before Christmas would be a must.

I personally think that a multi holiday land could, with certain sectors for Christmas (smaller version of what I mentioned above), Easter (not religious, just like a mini section where the Easter Bunny lives with a M&G and a few shops), Halloween (many potential options), and Thanksgiving (need a restaurant where you can have a traditional Thanksgiving meal). Also, then guests will always have the chance to see the characters in their themed appeal all year long, not just during the respective season. I personally do not think that St Patrick's Day and Valentine's Day would work for mini lands due to them not being the most popular lands, and there aren't really any IP's to tie to them. I could see maybe a little leprechaun village or something, but I couldn't see a boat ride like the one you mentioned, I had never heard of Darby O'Gill before. The 4th of July idea is interesting, I could see a revised version of the old Fireworks Factory shooter idea working there, I just don't know how Independence Day could create a theme around it, as there isn't really a theme to use.

Overall, I like the idea a lot, and would have much rather seen that than Double Dumbo in MK.

Well, for St. Patrick's or Valentine's day, it doesn't have to be tied to an IP at all! I enjoy the non-IP rides as much as the IP rides as long as they are well done. And for holidays that have religious ties (Easter, Christmas) I think they could be done tastefully so that the religious part is respected, yet the focus is on the fun parts, such as Santa and the Easter Bunny. Thanks for the feedback!

If it were to ever be created in real life, there would almost have to be an IP. I think we both know that Disney isn't likely to build a land that doesn't feature an IP. :p

Hey hey hey!!! What's going on, ladies and germs, the kid is back, but he almost forgot that today was Friday.... work and lack of sleep will do that to ya.... so without further ado....

Journey through Inner Space!!

For those of you who have never seen this ride, go to youtube and check out some POV videos. My concept for today is to rebirth the idea of a ride where you shrink.

I have some ideas, but today, I want to do something a little different by leaving this concept open ended! I want YOU to give me some feedback on how you would do a shrinking ride! Would you do a roller coaster? A trackless dark ride? A simulator (Body Wars made me sick as a child )? Let's talk about it!

Yes! This is one of those extinct attractions I've always wanted to ride

Fun Fact: the Adventures through Inner Space narrator (Paul Frees) is also the narrator for Haunted Mansion;)

I really like the unique concept of this attraction, but if it was ever to be redone, with all the scientific advancements of the human body and inner space, which I think could blend nicely with a Body Wars-esque theme. And instead of starting outwards and working in...I think it would be cool to start from an embryologic standpoint...exploring from one cell to the creation of the human body.

I think this type of attraction could fit nicely in a new Future World East. A combination of the Wonders of Life (Body Wars and The Making of Me) as well as exploration themes.

For the ride system - I'd keep it simple, the original omnimover, because for these scenes, you'd want the guests to be immersed in the environment, and that can be accomplished by a slow moving type ride vehicle. Plus it'd be good for capacity.

The basic scene outline, just brainstorming here, could be something like this:

Scene 1 - Narrator talking about "life" and how it evolves

Scene 2 - The first cell, the zygote, which proliferates through mitosis and meiosis into a multitude of cells that will eventually make up the human body. Here you can also explore the inner workings of the cells themselves and the processes that they perform at a microscopic level. This would be really interesting to build as well, and in a darken space you could have light projections travel 360 around the omnimovers representing neuronal firings as the body builds to form the brain and spinal chord

Scene 3 - Organogenesis, the development of the heart around day 22. You see the blood start flowing as you travel around these developing organs, and you hear and feel the heart start to pump as you travel even further out and the body expands.

Scene 4 - Travel along an artery and follow the blood flow towards other organs and bone development

Scene 5 - You travel back up the spinal column and up towards the brain, and travel in different lobes, see the firings increase, and then travel towards the eyes where the narration and music swell, dictating how the body has formed from that one cell in inner space and everything you see in the world derives from small beginnings...the eyes open and you see the light, and then the ride ends.

Something like that:p Just first initial thoughts...this might be a project for another day to fully flesh it out. :) Nice topic!

That's a very interesting ride - I wish I'd been able to ride it! It reminds me of early Epcot rides, but less 80's. (Ah... early Epcot...)

I was not a Body Wars fan at all, and feel like simulators have been done to death. Nor do all the various Toy Story Playlands and Bug's Life themed stuff really take full advantage of the concept. Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground is, for me at least, the most compelling current "shrinking" attraction, just because there's something about seeing a giant bug in all its graphic detail that's hard to look away a from...

In all honesty, in answer to your query, what I'd really want to do is modify the current plans for Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios to really take advantage of the idea of shrinking to the size of a toy. Toy Story is a great movie franchise, but it's an interesting question - suppose you were going to make a toy-themed land that had NOTHING to do with Toy Story characters, what it would look like? If I were an imagineer, I'd design the land first as though there were no Toy Story characters represented, and then add them in later in the design process - that should ensure a more creative approach and a more universal appeal.

If you could shrink down to the size of a toy, what would you want to do? Well, I could think of a few ideas at least:

* Ride a model train through a Christmas village
* Participate in a life-size Warhammer-type army figurine battle, or other boardgame as though it were "real" (chess, battleship, stratego)
* Ride a Hot wheels around a zipping, looping race track
* Play on gigantic toy musical instruments, like a xylophone or keyboard, or gigantic vintage electronic toys like Speak n Spell

There's probably a lot more and better ideas, though.

I think the main thing I would do to sell this land is enclose it in a gigantic warehouse themed to a kid's bedroom, complete with giant electrical outlets, huge carpet fibers, and a world under the bed. The more convincing details, the better. I would also try to do something like a "Toy-izer" machine that would act as a portal into the land - similar to the Microscope in Inner Space. Something to let kids and kids-at-heart play more with their imagination...

Dear friends, thank you for your input, but with the horrible events in Paris tonight, I honestly feel sick. I feel almost wrong wanting to imagine and create things right now. Please be in prayer for the French people, and I will contribute to this idea at a later time.

Ok, now for some legitimate responses! Again, I am sorry, I was pretty shaken from the events in Paris.

This is a really neat direction! (Also, thanks for the POV link) When I discovered Journey through Inner Space, I just thought it was an amazing concept. A revamped Body Wars + JTIS would be excellent, and I think you should "flesh" it out (punpunpun) and give us a ride through! I like the scenes you have so far in that you travel through the body, yet the tone is very much JTIS. Body Wars had a story, as I recall, of being shrunk to fight germs (Osmosis Jones, anyone?), whereas I see your idea as more of a conceptual/artistic ride that is not necessarily story driven, and I like that! It's a risky move, but I think it would be a refreshing change.

Another great idea! I always thought that a Toy Story land should have been set in a MASSIVE model of Andy's room, but I realize that that would be a major investment. The toy xylophone a la "Big" with Tom Hanks would be great fun, as well as some things from Honey I shrunk the Kids, like a giant bubble machine that makes huge bubbles! Then again, if the scale is to a Buzz or Woody sized toy, that would not be as small as the scale for Honey I shrunk the Kids. What about a recreation of the luggage sorting scene from Toy Story 2? That would be a really awesome coaster!

So here are a couple of my shrinking ideas!
  1. An Ant Man themed attraction! I loved the Ant Man movie; it was a great change of pace from the other Marvel movies, and it could easily be some sort of dark ride like Dinosaur or a coaster. The other neat thing is that throughout the ride, since Ant Man changes size, you the rider could change size throughout the ride, allowing for some interesting optical illusions and effects (for instance, I think flying through a key hole is a must!).
  2. A Tinker Bell dark ride would be really great. I have to admit, I find a certain charm in the new tinker bell movies (just to be clear, I have a sister who enjoys them, so I have seen most of them with her lol). The animation style is so colorful that I am sure kids would adore it. Plus, Tinker Bell is such a core Disney character, she deserves an attraction! I'm thinking the story would be somehing like you get shrunken by some fairy magic gone wrong, and it becomes a mad dash to get you back to normal size!
  3. A Bug's Life attraction? Eh, the idea came to mind, but I haven't figured anything out. Any thoughts?
  4. Journey Through Inner Space revamped! I like the Body Wars idea, but I also would love a revamp of the original attraction. It could be really awesome with today's special effects technology.
  5. Honey I Shrunk the Audience! .......no, no please never come back.....

I could see a Tinkerbell attraction being fun. Haven't seen Ant Man myself so can't speak to that...

I think it would be a trick to do Journey Through Inner Space in a modern context. Watching the YouTube video, I really enjoyed the concept, the playing-things-for-real aspect, the queue microscope, and so on. The part that was hokiest was the narration, unfortunately, because it was never clear to me whether this guy was the scientist sending us on the ride, or some guy with us, or our own thoughts being somehow reflected in the voice of Thurl Ravenscroft, or what? Yet at the same time, the narration gave us the information needed to understand what was going on, and also thankfully avoided too much "Something goes horribly wrong" that sometimes feels predictable and also keeps the threat level higher than the ride really can credibly sustain. So somehow it would have to be updated - not sure how, though. Also, I'm sure physicists and chemists would demand more accurate representations of what we were seeing... if such a thing is even possible :D

Ooh... if you wanted to do a "scary" shrinking attraction, the best villains would be bacteriophages. I mean, come on, they look like spiders, they inject you with their DNA which causes you to later explode into millions more bacteriophages - it would be fantastic :D

I actually enjoy the narration. It makes the ride more.... abstract! Which fits well with the mysteries of the atom. Like you said, the "something goes wrong!" motif is almost a cliche now.

You guys thought I would forget, didnt you??? Well, truth be told, I almost did...

Ok, so I was thinking earlier about the song "Africa" by Toto. It is a really catchy song, and I highly recommend jamming to it if you are on a road trip.

My idea for today is a Lady and the Tramp dark ride. This film is a great classic, and it deserves more than a simple restaurant.

I realize today's idea is, admittedly, lame, but I have been quite busy so that's all I have! How else could we use Lady and the Tramp in a Disney park?
