Winter vs Summer visits

I only can go in summer. When you are in education that is your only choice. Unless you go for Christmas, but our family is big and we like to spend our holidays together. We go in with the attitude that yes it will be hot, but we can be at home or at work. We take it slow, plan our days, take breaks in the afternoon with swimming and maybe a nap. It works out. We leave in 6 days and looking forward to our time there.:D

So just did a summer visit to WDW and I must say I much prefer a winter trip. The crowds are light and the weather is great in say Jan-Feb. This time I waited in very long lines to sweat to death! What a different experience. If your impatient like me I would reco a visit during the off season.!

We have visited many times in July or August, but our favorite time is in Jan, Feb or March because we can get away from the cold winter (and many times snow) and enjoy the lighter crowds. Yes the park hours are shorter, but so are the lines and we can still get what we need to accomplished.

My favorite visits use to be May, but the last 2 years it's been 97 degrees and much more crowded than in the past. We are moving our Spring trips to October, since our soon to be baby girl will have her birthday that month. So, not this year obviously - but next.

My favorite trip was early December, so I am a winter trip person too. Great weather, cooler - very small crowds. Beautiful holiday decorations. My least favorite trips have been in mid-march, especially nearing Easter. I find Spring Break more unbearable than summer for crowds, but at least the weather is not as hot.

Since DH was a teacher, we always went during the summer, spending 3 weeks in the area visiting family and going to the parks. However, when my mom turned 80, we planned a big family party for our winter break week, and combined it with a couple of Disney days. We were so impressed with the difference and the weather that we have never gone back for a summer trip since! :D

we have been doing far more winter (after thanksgiving to max end of january) visits than anything else over the past few years but the only thing i miss about a summer trip is, for us anyway, we get a little more use out of our resort in the summer months. we hit the parks at rope drop until about 1 or 2pm then go back to the resort (swim, nap, whatever) until we get cleaned up and do an early dinner say 5-630pm then head back to the parks at night until the end of emh. i love the parks at night so in the summer you do get those types of hours that you miss in the winter. i like having a deluxe resort for the summer trips but don't feel that same need for our winter visits.

My family and I did the summer thing and we swore that we'd never go back, it was too hot, too crowded and to insane to enjoy. Also it was a hassle trying to book for food during the "peak season" as everything was booked up so far in advance that we were only a few days out from going when I was finally able to book some of the meals. (especially in the more popular restaurants) We started going in November between Thanksgiving and the second week of December, the crowds are almost non existant, and booking for character dinners etc, is much easier. Plus we found the Christmas Processional to be an excellent way to start the Holidays for us. Enjoy:xmas:

We've gone in April, and twice in late May/early June.

Each time the weather was in the high 80's, low 90's.

This year we are going in August and our plan is to go early, take mid-day breaks at Storm-along-bay, enjoy some ice-cream from Beaches and Cream and some drinks from Hurricane Hannah's. Then go to dinner and enjoy the parks at night.

We also added waterpark option and figure to spend some time in the wave pool and slides.

We are also loading up on suntan lotion and ordering a couple cases of water for the room.

I like your thinking!!! I leave in 1 day :sohappy:

Plan to follow your advice

There is no way I could deal with the summer heat and crowds. We have been going in mid May for a few years and the weather is usually nice. Warm enough to go swimming but still bearable. But we have seen the crowd level increase lately.
