This is going to sound incredibly stupid, but I didn't know until this weekend that the Winnie the Pooh ride is based on an actual movie. We are taking our 20 month old girls to Disney in two weeks, so we're trying to get them into some of the things they'll see. So my wife bought the DVD called "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh". As I'm watching it, I was saying, "wow, that's just like the ride...whoah, look at that, that's in the ride...etc." All this time, I just figured it was a story put together for the ride. I felt so dumb.

Don't feel too bad. Just think of how many folks think that those characters in Splash Mountain were made up just for the ride, since Song of the South may never be released again on any form of media...

"The Many Adventures" was some of the "prep work" I did on my DD (nearly 3) prior to our trip. I didn't want her only exposure to those characters to be that horrible My Friends Tigger and Pooh from Playhouse Disney, which she hated!

It was indeed, check out the movie...it's from 1977, and even then it was based on books.

It was kinda the same with me mainly because Disney doesn't really list it as one of its official animated features.

It's always been listed as one of the 50 animated features. The problem is most people are familiar with the vignettes as separate animated shorts rather than the full length feature.

Yes its so true. But the only thing that matters in the end is that you enjoy the film and the ride.

God that makes me feel old. It's like talking to someone about how great Saturday Night Live was in its heyday, only to have them say "yeah, I miss Will Ferrell, too."

Any idea which shorts will be shown?

'Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day' and 'Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too'. Beginning at 6pm, Mickey's Christmas Carol follows at 7. Good night for Disney tv!

Though, I'm not too sure why they aren't showing the Pooh Christmas special, being that it's 25 Days of Christmas and all...

Raised on Pooh as I was, such questions make me feel old too. :(

But since the first book was published 33 years before I was born, I guess I'm OK with it.

Winnie-the-Pooh is a fictional bear created by A. A. Milne. The first collection of stories about the character was the book Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), and this was followed by The House at Pooh Corner (1928). Milne also included a poem about the bear in the children’s verse book When We Were Very Young (1924) and many more in Now We Are Six (1927). All four volumes were illustrated by E. H. Shepard.
