Wine in Germany

In the Germany pavilion at Epcot they are selling wine by the glass. I was surprised that it was pretty good. I had the Ausleese (Ausleese what I do not know, but an Ausleese), I wanted to try the Eiswine but never made it back. I have had Eiswine before, and it is worth the $11 for the little taster's glass.

Has anyone tried this? And does anyone remember the name of the bottler?

I've never tried that one. In Germany we always get the special of sparkling wine mixed with some kind or red syrup. :slurp:

The wines of Germany are very nice. I like to buy a bottle to take home every year. My favorite is also the sparkling wine with the strawberry syrup. I asked last year if I could purchase the syrup and was told that it was strawberry daquari mix. I haven't tried it at home yet but being reminded of it by this email, I think I'll do that for Christmas.

The red sparkling wine you had was probably Rosa.

the red sparkiling wine is actually called "strawberry sparkler".... it is the "wine of the month"... though i beleive that it never changes, since it always seems to be the wine of the month... heh... during the holiday, they also offer a mulled gluhwein, kind of like a wine cider, in addition to the other varieties of wine offered daily.

the "rosa" you refer to is likely the banfi rosa regale, and is not avail in germany, but is actually offered in italy, paired with a lovely chocolate bit. similar to the strawberry sparkler, the rosa regale is not mixed, but comes out of the glass already on that form, thus is not as syrupy as the strawberry sparkler. I am not certain what german sparkling wine is mixed with the strawberyy mix to create the sparkler though.

btw- the banfi is avail in most publix supermarkets near wdw... gues sthey realize how pupular that wine is in the parks! and its much cheaper in publix!!

No, this was a honest wine, not a sparkling or mixer. It is by the same label as the ausleese. I was surprised a thow good it was - normally the wines I would expect to see there would be mass-market cheaper stuff, but I liked this one.

the label that makes the ausleese is "madonna". they make several wines available at the german pavilion... including eiswien, and auslese... bit o history.. the madonna winery is evidently the oldest maker of german "liebfraumilch" in germany... also available in the germany pavilion.

curious.... why would u think the wines would be cheaper mass market stuff at this pavilion? Why would you go to epcot to buy wine u can get at any supermarket? the point of it is to try good imported wines.... i dont understand why you would expect it to be cheap wines...

Uh, because most of the other stuff I have found in World Showcase seems to be pretty much available in any other store and over the internet? Selling things in Disney requires a pretty consistent flow (cwhich usually translates to mass production), and Disney does, unfortunately, tend to "Americanize" their products quite a bit. Disney seems to be more interested in dealing with the larger companies than the smaller.

But like I said, I was actually impressed by the wine. I will hae to look it up.

For what it is worth, the label is Valckenberg Madonna. If you just look for Madonna you are not going to find the same stuff.
