Not when its released; but possibly after the release.. ima wait and see if any new vista owners is experiencing problems with it before buying it.. such as bugs.. etc.

my computer is ready for vista, but i can get the ultimate one, but im not rushing for vista yet. if i wanted vista -- i can load one w/ the windowblind themes and make it look like vista.

Vista has already started showing security problems. Perhaps once it's settled down and patches have corrected some of the initial hiccoughs I'll think about it. XPsp2 is a fairly stable platform and performs well, so I'm in no hurry.

The only new feature in Vista that interests me right now is the speech-to-text capability and then only if it is comparable to Dragon NaturallySpeaking... [which I somehow doubt].

I doubt I will be getting the first version but will more than likely have it running by the end of the year possibly sooner if I build a new desktop.

Microsoft is sending me a Vista Business retail licensed DVD (3 weeks late *sigh*, thru the developer network) ... and I plan on upgrading it to Vista Ultimate.

I am going to get another hard drive though... and just run and install Vista in dual boot. So that way I still have my XP Pro and other stuff. I'll run in dual boot till Vista has cleared an SP1 release.

No one (at Microsoft) has yet explained to me about x32, x64, and x86 bit though (are they sending me both versions? when I do the install.. can I just select x64 version? different DVDs, one for regular, one for 64?). My dual core can run x64bit and x32... and I'd like to toy with the 64bit version of Vista though, just to really see how secure it is, and to toy with the drivers. Yet, no one at the Microsoft Delevoper forums can give me any answers. GrrRRrr!!!

I havent even gotten it... and already I am irritated with it. :fork: :o

EDIT: Funny... I just posted this.. and then checked the developer forums.. and got this message:

btw I just confirmed with my team that we are only shipping the 32 bit version of Vista.

Sorry guys if you had your heart set on having both.

Thanks again,
Mark

*sigh* sooo much for putting Vista 64 thru the paces *pouts* :(

I'm getting the Ultimate version. Just because I get it for free, new laptop = free upgrade to Vista.

Yeah... DELL screwed me royally on my free upgrade. And god forbid if you should get a person that is NOT in India and that speaks perfect English when you call their cust support/service.

Dell Outsourcing: "Hello... My name is Bobby, what can I for you do today Mieester Jay"a"-rrry".

Me: NO... your name is not 'Bobby', its Rajhem.. and dont even try to make small talk about the Chicago Bears with me... you dont even know where Chicago is.

/end rant :lookaroun

Anyway... since Dell screwed me on my free upgrade... I just went to Microsoft and got it (free), and I'll still wind up getting it a month before Dell OEMs do. Huzzah! :sohappy:  :lookaroun

I'll not permit the Beast of Redmond to rip me off by "upgrading" when I don't need to.

My PC is starting to get long in the tooth. When I decide to replace it then said replacement will probably come with the latest version, but that's the only reason why I'd end up with it.

Re. Indian call centres with fake names - I had one of them call me and I enjoyed winding "John Smith" up by asking why I should trust him if he's so dishonest he could not give me his real name? Eventually he hung up on me :D

Beta 2 and RC1 had 64 bit support. It's a pain to get the drivers working in the 64 bit version though. I have Beta 2, and I plan on getting ultimate when I get a little extra money. I hate the push for games on vista though because XP is so much better for gaming, as vista takes somewhere close to 300 mb of RAM to run, and I need that for gaming. XP in it's freshly installed state takes 65 MB of RAM.

After my horrific month trying Explorer 7.0, I don't think I'm going to be upgrading anything for a while.
I don't understand why so many people are having trouble with IE7. I have had it for a while now and after a few minor tweaks it is running better than any IE version I have used before.

I haven't used IE6 since june of '06. I can't say I missed it at all. IE7, even the beta version that came with Vista, ran almost flawlessly, the one exception being that it crashes with too many tabs up, but that is close to thirty.

Not until I've had some time to play with it. The first upgrades should be trickling in to our clients within the next month, so I'm sure we'll have some Vista machines around for me to play with soon.
