I have a problem with Windows Media Player. It won't play wmv files over the internet. It always freezes my browser. The only way I can see them is to download the file onto my computer. I upgraded to the newest version and it still doesn't work. Anyone else have this problem? :confused:

Really need to know more information. What OS are you running? Is the OS updated? What browser are you running? What processor (chip) are you running. How much memory do you have? Are you on dialup or do you have broadband?

For example, if you're running XP with a PIII and only 256 Mg of RAM you'd be right on the edge of possible failure.

I'm using IE. I've tried both Windows Media Player 9 and 10. I'm on Windows XP with service pack 2. I have a pentium 4. I have 512 MB RAM. And I'm on broadband.

Every type of video file will play except for wmv, which will play on my computer but not over the internet.

Seeing as how there seems to be no solution anywhere on the net for this, I
guess it's a good a time as any for my first post. :P

I had this same problem and I got around it by doing the following:

*in WMP go to Tools->Options->Network
*Under streaming proxy settings click on HTTP and then configure
*Switch it from "use proxy settings from web browser" to "Do not use a proxy
server"
*Click OK, and click OK again.

Now reopen the file and/or close and reopen the player, and voila should
work. What's funny is I don't use a proxy in my web browser settings but for
some reason it must've been trying to. This only happened sometime after I
installed WMP 10. For people that need to use a proxy the same as their web
browser, well then I'm not sure what to do, this is just what worked for me.

Anyways I hoped that helped someone out there cuz I know it was annoying me
all to hell.
