As our thoughts are with everyone potentialy in the path of Wilma, I was curious of how many times, WDW parks, etc, have been shut down prior to this hurricane or even last years hurricanes. Shutting down WDW is a rare occurance, and I have never heard of it closing other than for a hurricane.

Any thoughts?

The one noteable exception to Hurricanes or other major storms i think is when Epcot's power failed so the park didn't open that day.

The only time I knew of Disney closing was for 9-11 (the first time) and Hurrican Charlie (I think). I live in Tampa and have never had any problems with the Hurricans including Willma. They have showed water levels of the city if a Cat 5 hit and Tampa would be under water. Right now it is really windy and cold (cold for Florida anyway) but it is really sunny out and not raining at all. Perfect for surfing I guess. I have seen a lot of huge trees ripped right out of the ground down the street the past couple years though so I thank you for your concern. The Disney area might have a couple problems with trees like last year but they are prepared for this. If anyone goes to Disney in the next couple days be on the look out for Hidden Mickey's made from cut tree trunks. They did this last year right next to the MK Monorail

By my count, this is the fourth time the WDW parks have closed for the day:

1999 Hurricane ?
2004 Hurricane Charlie
2004 Hurricane Frances
2004 Hurricane George (?)
2005 Hurricane Wilma

The parks closed early on 9/11/01.

That's my tally, any others?
