Will WDW's Haunted Mansion EVER see the light of an overlay?

As I said, the NMBC Overlay is neat, but I feel like an OLD Liberty Square style holiday overlay for HM would be nice. Old dusty décor, webbed up trees, stuff like that.

I find DL's HM to be VERY nice when it comes time for the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay each year, and I look forward to seeing the videos that pop up... BUT..... Will we ever see that in the Magic Kingdom? I feel like by doing that, they could really spruce up the staleness that WDW may experience with HM. Don't get me wrong, Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride, but unless they do a much needed refurb or an overlay, it'll start to seem very dry. I LOVE HM, but you get what I mean, it needs more.
Have you ever actually been to DL and experienced the overlay or only seen videos? I ask that because we've experienced it numerous times over the years and it isn't a good thing, it doesn't spruce up the HM... it is tacky to the nth degree. Black light painted junk all over the place that should be left to a carnival ride. The only bit of it hat is cool is the smell of gingerbread but that seems to have been dialed back over the years.

I've seen the POV video and it isn't nearly as jarring as what you get when you ride it in person. Most of our trips to DL are in the fall and I cringe each time we ride it because I know what the ride is like when you don't have the godawful overlay on it and the blaring Danny Elfman music... Be careful what you wish for because if your unlucky might end up with it. If you want something from DL when it comes to overlays, wish for the Space Mountain overlay it is better and would actually make Space Mountain more enjoyable than it currently is.

The overlays are done in DL because you have much more of a local crowd there who tends to be able to go more frequently and thus isn't upset about their attractions being overlaid and not in their normal state. If someone takes a trip to WDW, and wants to see Haunted Mansion, chances are they are wanting to see the original. They may be upset if they go and the Mansion isn't its "normal self".

This is just my theory, but I think it makes sense. The audience at WDW just isn't the same.

So there have been subtle changes and not so subtle changes to the HM in WDW. The ghosts that used to pop up an scream, there used to be 4-5 of them. The attic update removed the ones in there, so much less scary now, I think one pop up ghost still in the graveyard but doesn't scream, also the Labyrinth stair case scene addition, removal of the spider webs. They really need to update some of the decor and scenes to look scarier and more real instead of 1970's scooby-doo look. Bring back the screaming pop up ghosts, add to the scenes with new effects, so they don't necessarily have to remove anything, just add to what is there. Keep the ghost host narration, update the strecthing room, I can see the seams where the wall paper moves now. Maybe they add different scenes, there's some empty space after the coffin scene, instead of 2 stretch rooms one gets changed to something different and keep one stretch room, make if feel like Star Tours a bit. Little different with every ride, half the time you get the stretch room. Add trackless ride features to make it scarier, lots they can do to enhance without changing too much. I love the HM and other classic rides, but they are all do for serious updates, like Peter Pan & Jungle Boat .How bout they get rid of the lake, steam boat and tom sawyer island and add on to the haunted mansion? I don't think I ever rode the steam boat.

I hope they never overlay anything to Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom. I've seen the Disneyland version in person and to me it's a cheap looking and tacky. It's something that isn't needed to the classic E-Ticket attraction.

I wouldn't mind seeing a holiday overlay for the Mansion....just as long it isn't Nightmare Before Christmas.

The Mansion is so rich in characters and story that it doesn't NEED Jack Skellington and Company.

"Gracey Family Spectacle of Dancing Frights", perhaps?

Or throw it up during the 4th of July to fit the Liberty Square theme....*snickers*
