Will MGM be too crowded on Fantasmic nights in 2009?

Cutting Fantasmic to 3 nights a week is really giving me some trouble in planning my next Disney trip.

On a few previous trips we would hit MGM up on our arrival day and get there around 1:30pm. Since we go in early march which is usually dead we would be able to walk on most of the stuff we wanted to see, grab dinner, and see fantasmic. We would have mgm done the first night which was awesome since it was an exciting first day and it would leave us with more time for the other parks during the rest of the trip.

But.. now im not so sure if this is a good idea. With Fantasmic being cut to 3 nights a week I would think that it is going to be more crowded during those days/nights. It would only make sense that if a family is going to do mgm that most would choose a fantasmic night to do it on so they can see fireworks too. So I think the days of arriving at 1:30pm (even during a slow time like early march) and being able to walk on tower of terror are over if its a scheduled fantasmic night.

What do you think? Will MGM be way more crowded on Fantasmic nights when they switch to only 3 shows per week in 2009?

This fantasmic thing really is disappointing. Another problem I have is that some fantasmic nights don't even match up with nights that the mulch sweat and sheers band plays which really puts a lot of limitations on trip planning if your traveling with people who like both the band and the fireworks.

Quick heads up, MGM is now called Disney Hollywood Studios (DHS).

Back to the question, I think it's pretty safe to say that DHS will be crowded on Fantasmic days. Even when there are two performances a day, the shows are packed showing that there is a demand. I for one would always make the effort to see it and I'm sure I'm not alone. When you consider that many people do not have park hoppers, DHS fantasmic days will be crowded from beginning to end

On the other hand, I'm sure there are plenty of people who will just watch whatever is on that night and perhaps are unaware that Fantasic is shown at all.

You never know, Americal Idol might become really popular and draw the crowds away :lookaroun

Well, considering it was crowded on a weekday evening in September, I think it might be dangerously crowded. Disney really blew it by limiting the nights it's shown. While I am not a huge fan of the show, it should be done every evening, because what you are going to see is that they will have to start cutting people off from entering about an hour before the darn thing, because it IS poplular.

So Disney will be left with very unhappy people that will be unable to see the show, and a lot of cranky parents and kids who have to sit on a uncomforable bleachers waiting and looking at nothing for over an hour or more if they want see the show.

Of course maybe they will make the whole stadium reserved for people that do the Fantasmic Dining package so they can sell more food.
