Will lights, motors, action get new cars?

I've been hearing for a while that Pontiac GTOs will be replacing the Opels in Lights, Motors, Action. They've been telling people that on the BLT and you can see the new cars sitting in the practice area. I was just wondering if anyone knew if or when this is going to happen.

I would highly doubt that. The cars currently in the show are specially desinged for that show, and do not come cheap. I don't think they are about to replace them.

Wow, and I thought they were replacing them with the Prious to get better gas mileage. Kinda hard to account for the fuel increase huh?

The GTO's have been sitting there since before the show started last year; they're used for practice. I doubt GM would put them in the show, since the GTO is going into its last year on the market. If they do replace the current cars (which aren't anything at all like a regular production car), they will probably base them on one of their newer vehicles on the market.

Yea they're "used for practice" yet everytime I take the tour they're parked all beautifully along the ramps showcasing them like an ad for the guests... No car change in the future...

Not going to happen. Ever. A GTO (Holden/Vauxhall Monaro for those of you not in the US) is a completely different car. The show cars at LMA weigh only 1400 or so pounds and are powered by a 150 HP mid mounted motorcycle engine, whereas a (albeit stock) GTO weighs in at over 3700 pounds and has a 400hp V8 mounted in the front. It would be nearly impossible to replicate the stunts in LMA with a GTO (unless they put fiberglass GTO bodies on the current cars). The LMA stunt cars are light, nimble and I'd be willing to bet have 50/50 weight distribution whereas a (stock) GTO has 55/45 weight distro (not conducive to anything but powerslides). There are about 100 more reasons that it will never happen but I'll leave with the most compelling of all:

Why would they replace the Opels (which are still sold in Europe) with a car that isn't sold in America after the 2006 model year?

When we took the backlot tour it looked like a plug for pontiac. We were told that they were used for practice since they were so simular to the cars used in the show. To me that would be like a nascar driver doing his practice laps in the street sweeper.

Very well said. Not to mention the GTO would just be a lot more to maintain. Tires are more expensive being almost twice the size, and fuel is a major concern these days.

Personly I think they should stop LMA and then they should put the old houses there and then they have the old Backlot there instead. Bring back the old Backlot

How about we put the old houses on wheels and have THEM do stunts ! :D

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
The current GTO incarnation stinks! Its a frickin rebadged Grand Prix with a bigger power plant. Whoop-de-doo!

And I never got why the Opel was featured in the WDW show. No one in the US knows what an Opel is.. nor do they care.

If and when they ever re-tool the show with new vehicles, it could be done with the Chevy Cobalt coupe or the Pontiac G6 coupe -- completely retooled, and with fiberglass bodies, of course.

The GTO isnt a Grand Prix (but it does look like one), its a rebadged Holden Monaro--
In any case, I'm sure if they DID use GTOs - which may or may not have been part of the plan for the US show at some point - it would just be the same design car they use now with a GTOesque shell on it.
