I don't get the "wide openness makes IOA feel like Six Flags" comment, when Epcot is probably the widest and most "open" theme park, and it certainly doesn't feel like a Six Flags. In fact, that wide openness in Epcot is what helps to make it so enjoyable...

Oh well.

- Snow?? In Florida?? It's almost as if you are supposed to suspend your disbelief! Because, you know, Hogsmeade isn't in Florida, and Universal can't control the weather! While we're on this train of thought, now that you mention it, what is a medieval castle doing next to a turn-of-the-century small town american street... in Florida? What is a snow-capped Himalayan mountain doing... in Florida?

What is a section of Hollywood doing... in Florida?
What is an African safari doing... in Florida?
What is a medieval European village doing... in modern-day Florida?
What is a Western town doing... in Florida?
What is a jungle doing... in Florida?
What is an American Revolution-age town doing... in modern-day Florida?
What is an Asian town doing... in Florida?
What are Mexican, Norwegian, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Moroccan, French, British, and Canadian towns doing... in Florida?
What is a tropical island with dinosaurs on it doing... in Florida?
What is a setting from a children's book series doing... in Florida?

It's people like OGMickey that make places like Disney's California Adventure.

It's like the only theme park that's "legal" in Florida is Disney's Florida Adventure.

How do i make places like DCA i hate DCA except for cars land i think that was awesome! I didnt say to suspend belief about what belongs in Florida, im simply saying that they had a option with the snow. They didt have to put it there at all. There were plenty of moments in the books that Hogsmead didnt have snow. The snow on Everest is more believable because its a mountain. Stop taking a persons opinion and taking it to the extreme.

The faded look is absolutely intentional, in fact they have recently, and are constantly repainting things in Seuss Landing so it looks correct. Can't stand that so many people are too dense to realize this... have you never opened a Dr. Seuss book?

Im highly aware of the pastel colors Dr Seuss uses, but there is a diff between pastel faded and cracked chipping paint. Yes i know Disney parks also has under appreciated areas requiring some fresh paint, but every time I pass through Suess its always the same. Maybe its the time of year i go that its always at its worse. Who knows, but im tired of people ( not you Tom but People as a whole) saying that Disney disregards their parks and Uni is this blast of perfection. They both have their trouble spots.

For the record i have worked for both companies and im not swayed to one company or the other. Yet i do think Disney does it a little better. Thats my opinion and im sure not everyone is going to agree.

Why IOA Will Never Outdraw a Disney Park
FAQ

Disney is not quality, its just popular...

Saw this humorlessly being thrown about, also with a couple terrible analogies, Kim Kardashian and McDonalds, layered along for good measure, but we'll touch upon that as well.

But first.

Define quality?

What is quality? Would people spend money on anything if they did not think they were getting their monies worth? A Disney vacation for a family of 4 for 5 nights is easily over 2 grand, are people honestly attempting to ascertain the thought people will simply drop that amount of money because they are blind sheep who cannot think for themselves? Are people that stupid? When people say Disney is not as "quality" as Universal, which is debatable at best if even possible to comprehend, then apparently people are jut throwing away money going to a vacation resort for no other reason because they can't help themselves?

I seriously doubt it. If Disney did not offer "quality" people would not offer their money. To say Disney is living off a past reputation is nothing more than just another in the long line of endless excuses continuously spouted out as some droll internet propaganda machine. People covet money, I highly doubt people would gladly give it up if they did not think they were getting a "quality" investment in return.

But the rides at Disney World are poorly maintained and not up to the past...

Another myth, but on top of everything, who cares? Really? If you go to Disney World, spend all that money with the intention to do nothing but write a laundry list of what works and what don't work on a theme park attractions then you need help. People always toss out another old excuse freely of, What Would Walt Do, well, I highly doubt Walt would want you to make notes for him about his rides, I think he would want you to enjoy your experience, spend money, and enjoy your family, not in that order of course.

We don't know what the parks were like in 1975, and guess what, if we had a internet and access to instant information like now, we would have had sites pointing out unimportant things back then as well, the point is, who cares?

And to say Universal rides are not prone to break downs and running with show elements not working is delusional, they happen just as much as Disney, don't kid yourself.

But TDO, they...

Ok, stop right there.

TDO has nothing to do with anything that is important to the general public. All they do is use the budget they get from corporate to get the most for their money at any given time. They get no bonus from unspent funds, if you believe people actually do, then you need medial help. If any major business operated that way they would be a laughing stock, and Disney is full of some of the smartest people anywhere. TDO does what Disney Corp tells them to do, they are nothing more than middlemen. Do they cut jobs? Sure, but thats the curse of being a publicly traded company with share holders. The TDO excuse has nothing to do with anything, nothing to see here move along.

/end.

And getting back to McDonalds.

How is a company that has sold bazillions of burgers not considered quality? Because some people watch a couple of food shows and all of a sudden a American staple that has served and pleased countless people is all of a sudden not considered quality? Is a Kobe beef burger with gold leaf shavings, truffle chips and shark fin au jus quality? First off who can afford a burger like that and second, 99% of the people walking the earth don't have to pallet to enjoy it. McDonalds has served billions of burgers world wide, to call them popular is true, but to say they are not a quality product, when billions of people have eaten their offerings is kind of silly.

TLDR- If Disney wasn't quality, people would have moved on, the parks are still busy, quality does that.

Jimmy Thick- Often imitated, NEVER duplicated.

If the Disney parks are really better than the Uni parks, surely people will go home and tell their friends that. The kids will say they rode Spider-Man and it was boring, but beg mom to go back and ride Toy Story again. They'll forget the Mummy, but yearn for another go at Soarin.

If Uni seemed a little better, starting with the moving sidewalks...if the vibe was more fun and exciting, building through CityWalk...if the entrances were cool and the lands well themed...if the rides were more fun and more adorable...if the restaurants had better food at better prices...and if the whole vacation there was just easier and far less work/hassle than disney...then Disney might be looking at a problem.

But if none of the above is true, then there is no problem for Disney. Nobody will hear about that. Nobody will go. Disney will remain on top, no matter how much they waste money on wristbands and let the parks slide.

Looking over the recent attendance figures it makes me chuckle at how dominant still the Disney parks in Florida really are. Even with the recent Potter addition at Universal, they are still nowhere near Disney in terms of attendance.

But with the recent, constant barrage of unsubstantiated rumors about DHS receiving a repackaging, it still outdraws IOA by a huge margin.

So much so, even with the second phase of Potter opening soon, I highly doubt it will come close to DHS from a annual attendance standpoint, in fact I think I have a bet with someone here it won't. Iam that confident.

How so?

My belief is this, Potter, anyway people want to slice it, has appealed to the people it will appeal to, the second phase of Potter will not bring in double digit increases due to the fact the fan base who seriously wanted to see it already did. If Potter was this amazing property that Disney passed on, and lets face it, by their recent track record of success surrounding picking and choosing IP's, I have to give Disney the benefit of the doubt for passing on Potter, wouldn't the army of Potter fans have felt the need to see Potter by now? Would real Potter fans abstain from going for the chance of possibly a second phase opening?

I highly, highly doubt it.

Phase 2 of Potter will increase gate numbers a little more, but it will still be far behind the numbers the weakest Disney park in Florida will produce, and considering all Disney parks in Florida will surpass 10 million this year, and IOA never hitting even 8 million in guests, I would fearlessly forecast we won't be seeing IOA surpassing a Disney park in Florida anytime soon.

Jimmy Thick- Raw numbers and the preference of the general public don't lie now.
Why would you want IOA to pass Disney???
