I'm as exited as I would be if Horizons came back for the possible return of Harrison Ford in Star Wars episode 7 but at the same time I have a gut feeling they are going to screw this movie up, expecially with Disney the way it is today. What do you star wars fans out theyre think.

From the way it looks, Disney is not really in control of what the studio is doing. Much like in the case of Pixar, Disney's name is on the movie and they handle the promotion and sign the checks, but the actual movie still comes from Pixar.

Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams will be the ones really in control of what Episode 7-9 become.

Yup I was just about to say - Can't be worse than "Phantom Menace"

....and I like Revenge of the Sith  haha
Revenge of the Sith was only okay because the other two had basically nothing important in them other than "I'm Anakin. I'm creepy, and I want Padme so we can have babies after the clone wars."

Could Disney make Part 7 any worse than Lucas himself made Parts 1, 2 and 3?

I only cared for Star Wars, Star Wars Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars Return of the Jedi. I just couldn't get into the prequels sadly.:( My boys like watching the Clone Wars cartoons.;) But, I don't think they'll "scre it up". But, we'll see...;)

Just like the marvel movies as well. Thats what gives me hope for episode 7, Disney let pixar and marvel do their thing, so I don't see why that wouldn't be the case here as well. Just the signing of Abrams should tell people Disney isn't messing around with this one. And for 4 billion dollars I don't think they can afford to.

Exactly.
If Episode 7 is done well, Disney could stand to earn back about 25% of their investment.
Think about it, a smash hit in the Star Wars franchise can easily make over a billion in worldwide box office. Add to that eventual home video sales and digital views, plus related merchandising, and you can see how much Disney stands to gain if this movie does well.

I really honestly don't think they'll screw it up. The only thing I'm worried about is getting my expectations too high, where no movie could live up to them. Every single move they've made so far on this movie has been a good one:

- George Lucas consulting, not running everything
- writer of Toy Story 3 writing
- writer of Empire Strikes Back producing
- J.J. Abrams directing

all of those things + Star Wars and I think you've got yourself a good movie. That's even before the other encouraging signs like the original cast being willing to come back and John Williams reportedly open to doing the music.

Not as much as JJ Abrams surely can. :D

The powers that be can screw up SW enough on their own anyway - see also, Clone Wars.

Are you implying that they screwed up Clone Wars? I would have to disagree with that if you are. I really enjoyed the series and thought it had some very strong episodes.

No, Disney will not screw up Star Wars. There hasn't been a great Star Wars since A New Hope. Lucas let the SW saga go from great to mediocre all on his own. There's a reason he started with IV; it was his best story.

As we've seen at WDW, Iger is an expert at changing something from great to mediocre. Star Wars and Iger are a perfect fit for each other.

What about Empire? Its the best of the 3 originals. Maybe I am being overly optimistic but I just don't see Iger doing anything to hinder star wars. He has to know that if you screw up this first set of movies, it could kill the 4bil investment. Do you hire someone like Abrams if you are shooting for mediocre? I wouldn't think so. I also don't think J.J. would have taken it if he didn't think he could make the movie HE wants to make. I wouldn't stake my reputation if I didn't have control, especially with a franchise as iconic as star wars.
