I am a travel agent and a cruise specialist, and usually have pretty reliable industry knowlidge. First of all, the cruise industry IS NOT booming. Usually a cruise line puts in an order for up to 6 new ships to debut over the course of the next few years, with Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Princess being the leaders. Afet September 11, the cruise industry took a HUGE hit. We saw prices as low as $200 for a 7 day cruise. The cruise lines have not even come close to recuperating their losses yet. That being said, most of the major cruise lines have cancelled most of their upcoming orders for new ships, with only one or two new ones coming on board in the next few years. There are too many empty cabins sailing, and the prices are much higher than before. We do not forsee Disney building or refurbishing any new ships in the near future. Theirs is a specialty market, not like the other lines. Since there are only 2 ships, and the prices are greater than almost any other line out there, they can keep their bottom line o.k. I don't think the demand for family oriented cruises is enough for them to spend such a huge amount of money when the cruise industry as a whole is doing so poor now. But maybe 5 or 6 years down the road we may see an anouncement. Just my 2 cents worth!
