Wilderness Lodge

We are thinking of staying at the Wilderness Lodge next year or the year after. Having never been there, I am very interested in the atmosphere. Could someone please describe the atmosphere? Is it a fun place to stay? We have stayed at CS and AKL and loved both. I am assuming the Wilderness Lodge is just as exciting if not better then the other two I mentioned.
Thanks for the help.

We love the Wilderness Lodge. Its atmosphere is superb, the great American Northwest. The people are so very friendly. The huge lobby is very inviting with the totem poles and huge fireplace with rockingchairs...great for early morning coffee or tea.
The sights and sounds make you feel as if you are in the woods away from the world.

The Whispering Canyon Cafe is great for a nice, loud, friendly family meal. They have BBQ type foods...the big all you care to eat skillets are well worth the money (both breakfast & dinner).

We love taking the boat to the MK in the morning and the evening ride at sunset is beautiful.

Don't think you can go wrong here.

Check out the photos

Note the view from Rm 5032..we usually stay in 6032 our favorite view.

My husband and I went to Wilderness Lodge for our honeymoon and absolutely LOVED it! It was wonderful! They constantly play "Out West" themes. The Lobby is massive and impressive, but still very inviting. I loved the fireplace.

We had a courtyard view, which I really recommend. My favorite memories are sitting on our balcony in the early morning and listening to the resort wake up and excited families getting ready for a fun day at WDW.

It's definitely an A+!!

We stayed at WL last summer. When planning the trip, we got a great rate there but my wife was very skeptical. She wanted luxury, not a log cabin. Well, after our stay she won't even consider staying elsewhere (and we honeymooned at the GF!). The WL is simply spectacular. The architecture alone makes it worthwhile. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. The music they play, the pool area, the geyser, the boat to MK, all the way down to the flickering lanterns at night and the cricket sounds make the WL the most "magical" of resorts. It is great. I wish I was going again this year.

I am! :D This is going to be our 5th trip to the WL. Every year we research all the resorts we would like to stay at and we always end up back at the WL. The Contemporary was nice, the Polynesian beautiful, but the WL is our WDW home. Its great to see the families hanging out in the lobby...mom& dad having coffee talking, the kids running around.(and they do and its not discouraged too much). My girls (15 & 9) know they can go to the Roaring Forks for a snack & a drink, hit the arcade and not have to worry. Everyone we have ever sent there loved it and have booked other trips there as well.

Meega, nala kwishta!
Thw WL and AKL were both designed by the same person. So when you walk into WL, the lobby is huge, open and very cool just like AKL.

We've never stayed there, but I walked around the place and have eaten at Artist's Point several times. We liked the place, we only did not care for the loudness of the lobby area. And if we ever stayed there, I'd probebly ask for a room away from the lobby area. But other who have stayed are a better judge of that than me, just my opinion. :D

The outside is really cool. Very romantic at night. If you don't stay, you should at least visit. Of all the Disney resorts, I think the ones with most atmosphere are AKL, Poly, and WL.

You can't go wrong by staying at WL.

The pictures can't even do this place justice! It's indescribable, you walk into that lobby and you know it's going to be "big", but the music! I'm kind of new to the internet, so I don't know how to provide a link that you click, but www.wdwig has the entire playlist! They also include "tips" for eating in the Whispering  Canyon! I've talked ny extended family into visiting with me sometime this fall. Beware! Once you go here, you may not want to go elsewhere!

I know that everyone asks this but our time is limited at "the world" for our next trip... how is the travel time from the resort? I have heard 20 + mins to Epcot, 25 + mins to AKL and MGM. Can anyone clear this up for me, please!!

I think tigsmom said it all. It's big, inviting, and definitely something to experience.

P.S. Hi again tigsmom, from way up north:wave:

I don't remember long commutes to the parks, AK about 20 min. Remember that there is a bus to the TTC! From here, you have the monorails to Epcot and MK as well as buses to everywhere else! Of course there are buses direct to all parks EXCEPT MK, there is the boat or TTC to monorail option. Hey Plattsburgh! Been to the Monopole's lately! Got my BSN there! (not the bar, the school! )

When do the buses for TTC start running? I think the other buses start to run about 1/2 hr before the parks open. We are going in Oct. and really love the Food and Wine Festival and usually stay at Y&B or BWI. This would be the first time we stay anywhere other than an Epcot resort and I don't wnat to spend a lot of time trying to get to Epcot.

LOVE the Wild Lodge! I love the atmosphere and the music. Pool is cool too.

One thing I have wrong about the Wild Lodge is the transportation to and from Magic Kingdom. The ferry can be unreliable at times. I have been stuck at Magic Kingdom for an hour waiting for a ferry. Or you can take the monorail or the parking lot ferry, which you follow the herd of people leaving the park to the parking lot.

Just plan accordingly when using the ferry boat from MK to Wild Lodge and you will have a wonderful time.

I love the Wilderness Lodge.

Hidden Bear at Wilderness Lodge.

When you go to the Wild Lodge on the ferry from MK, or on the boardwalk by the pool and the bar, you can see the hidden bear in Wild Lodge. (It is a facial profile of a bear.)

You MUST do this at night to see the bear.

When you are on the ferry, or on the boardwalk by the pool, look up at the lobby. There are 2 small trianglar windows on the top floor of the lobby, these are the 2 eyes of the bear. The big picture window in the lobby is the snout of the bear, the nose is the lights shining out of the window. The mouth of the bear is the bottom of the picture window. Lights shining out of this part of the window look like teeth. It may take a couple times to see it, but it is there.

Also, there are a bunch of hidden mickeys in the Wild Lodge.

Have fun! :animwink:

You got the transportation right. We usually take the boat to the MK. Take it to the Contemporary & hit the monorail. Bus rides are shared with Fort Wilderness and can get crowded, but its not that bad.

Drift...my hubby got his BSN from Plattsburgh! Its a small world.
(and hes been to Monopole's. And the Eagle is still atop the monument. )
