Hey!

First time poster! Just wondering what your opinions of the Wilderness Lodge are. Specifically, is the boat ride to the MK convenient? I have heard that it can be long, unreliable, annoying. Any info you guys would like to share would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to WDWMagic:wave:

I haven't stayed the the WL, but have visited several time and the place looks superb. It is really quiet and has a very woodsy feel to it. You'll especially love the lobby. As for the boat, I have takne it 2x and can't remember any problems. I had to wait maybe 5-10 minutes for it and the ride to the MK takes about 10-15 minutes. It is a very nice ride and much nicer than sitting on a bus.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge for two weeks in August. It was amazing. The whole resort feels so laid back, even when it is busy. As for the transportation, we were more than happy with it. The boat to the Magic Kingdom was especially relaxing. Try to board it at MK just before Wishes starts, and your cruise back will have the most incredible fireworks show. (especially if you sit oustside). As for the whingers who moan about the transportation from WL, I think you need to take this with a pinch of salt. Some people think that the transportation should appear and leave at the very moment they arrive at the bus stop, boat dock etc. As withg all Disney transportation, allow yourself plenty of time. But one thing is certain: WL is a FABULOUS resort.

Welcome aboard!

I have stayed there 8 times and will be going back! The boat ride to the MK is a nice relaxing way to start the day. It doesn't take very long, but remember that the boat is shared with Fort Wilderness so you may have to go there first (depending on which cycle you hit). We have never had a problem with any transportation to/from the WL.
Remember you can take the small launch to the Contemporary and hit the monorail from there also.

If you make a search on the Wilderness Lodge there wil be plenty of threads that will come up and should answer your questions. Feel free to PM me and I will do my best to answer any questions you might have.

hi  i have never stayed at the wilderness lodge but it looks ace. it gives me the feeling that its warm and cozy inside ;like a cabin in the woods where its very relaxing. when im in disney its one of the first hotels that im gonna visit because to me it has a very warm feel to it.

ive been thinking this is what i might do: im going to animal kingdom on christmas eve (24th) and if that shuts at 5 or 7 pm i will get the bus to either fort. wilderness or wilderness lodge (depending on the shortest queue and if i have enough time) then getting the boat to fort. wilderness for my carriage ride.

34 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:xmas: :) :sohappy: (woooooooooohooooooooo)

It's been a while since we stayed, but...

The rooms aren't that much different than any resort, it all depends on what color scheme(s) you like.
The themeing in and around the hotel is done perfectly. At all times you will be reminded your not in a regular hotel. The lobby is stunning.
The pool area was pretty good, but I'm not a big swimmer, so take my opinion lightly.
The dining options are far greater than some of the other WDW hotel options. Very, very good, with a buffet just a few minutes away.
The store(s) and arcade(s) are very limited, so if that's something you're into, you won't be pleasantly surprised.
Overall, I loved it and would like to stay there again. The boat to MK is great, and the seclusion from the other hotels make it very unique. The other BIG WDW hotels have the MonoRail, so you may feel left out there, but at least the boat gives you something unique.

WL thoughts

As you can probably tell from my avatar, I'm a WL fan.

My family has stayed at Ft. Wilderness Campground, POR, POFQ and Wilderness Lodge twice. Our favorite resort, BY FAR, is WL.

The atmosphere is immersive, the theming superb, the sounds and smells very relaxing and the amount of things to do is amazing. The pool is great, there are 2 full-service restaurants available, a fast-food /snack eatery, an arcade, a work-out facility, the Cubs Den for the young ones and a fantastic gift shop.

The rooms are nicely decorated and have balconies. All rooms have interior hallways. The lobby is breathtaking.

The transportation to the parks, water parks and DTD are fine. We've never had bus or boat problems. The boats to the MK and Contemporary are very relaxing and much more pleasant than sitting on a bus. The only "negative" transportation issue is that you aren't on the monorail.

There is a walking path to Ft. Wilderness Campground so you can go eat there or visit the petting zoo.

All in all, I can't say enough about this resort. A bonus is it's the cheapest of the Deluxe resorts (along with AK).

Hope this helps.

WL is a great resort to stay at. We actually married there in 2001 and got to stay on conceirge level for our honeymoon. The boat ride is nice and relaxing and doesn't take long for a boat to reach the resort, you can take the boat to MK directly or take it to Contemporary and then take the monorail if you like to wherever. The theme is great and the feel of the resort is so relaxing and definately Disney without going overboard.

We had no trouble (except 1 time) with the boats. Usually as soon as we walked up to the dock there was a boat approaching. I don't think we ever waited longer than 2 minutes.

But there was 1 exception. One night after Wishes at MK we had to wait FOREVER for a boat to Wilderness Lodge. I think it was a fluke/mistake though, because we never had that problem again.

If you stay there you'll have a great time. The architecture of the hotel is impressive and immersive. The lobby is amazing, and its seclusion creates a great a place that does not feel like Florida. I highly recommend it.

I can't imagine too many negative comments coming from anyone about WL. I mean there are always the little things that can happen, like a problem with transportation or an unkind CM, but really you can't go wrong.

There is only a few things I have to say about staying at WL

Very good choice!:sohappy:

My family decided to go to WL when we went to WDW for the very first time, and ever since then we have always been comming back! Very well themed, great food and a nice boat ride to MK. Artist point is a very nice resturant and Whispering Canyon Cafe is always a "fun" place to eat. (The CMs there are pretty funny and use the kectup while you can! Why? Hehehehe...I'm not giving that away!:zipit: )

Hope you have a great time there and let us know what you thought of it ok?

WL is AWESOME!! Just a beutiful resort. You can take tons of pixs of just the resort itself. It would be nice if it had a monorail, but don't know how it would fit into the theme. WL gives you an alternate mode of transportation that most of the other resorts don't have. WL was my first on-property stay (if you don't count the first night at POR) in 2002. The pool was nice, two hot tubs, and nice dining options. Make sure you try Whispering Canyon for one meal. Atmosphere is great for kids and adults. CMs do a wonder job and make a unique and entertaining dining experience. Be sure to bring you camera/vc to eat... you never know what may happen at the Whispering Canyon. Buy the refilleable mug and use it!! Great bargain and nice souvie.
We are going to the World in June 06 and are trying to decide between WL and POR (financial decision...) otherwise a great place!!!
If you or others in your party are into characters, in 2002 they had some characters in the lobby one morning. None of the biggies but still great photo ops!!! Do they still have characters that show up at WL?

Hey it's my first post!! :sohappy: I enjoy reading the posts. Lots of great info!

offite 1980, 1981, 1982 (day trips from Daytona)
POR Sept 2002
WL Sept/Oct 2002
