Wilderness Lodge advice

Just looking for some opinions on Wilderness Lodge. We are booked for a courtyard view 11/24-12/2. We have never stayed here before, any suggestions for room numbers to request, fun things around resort to do, we have never stayed anywhere but POR. So I am a little nervous staying somewhere different only because won't know what to expect. Probably just overthinking...... :sohappy:

WL was the first deluxe we stayed at after staying at POR many times. I think you will love it.

We've only stayed in a courtyard view once, it was very nice. My request are just a 'recently renovated room'. That's my only requests when staying on property.

Any view is nice. WL hotel is shaped likea U - at the top of the U is the lake and Discovery Island. In the middle of the U is the pool and hot tubs. You'll see the pool and hot tubs and geyser if you have a courtyard view. If you are on the right hand side of the U, and are high enough, you may see fireworks from MK. But don't count on this.

All of the room are accessible to the elevators down to the 2nd floor. The lobby is on the 2nd floor.

Enjoy the ambiance of the lobby.
Guest Services has a list of Hidden Mickey's that are in the resort. That is fun.

When you check in, ask to be flag family. You go up onto the roof of the lodge and raise the flag in the morning.

See if they still have tours of the lodge. This takes a couple of hours, it is free and it is enjoyable if you have the time to spare.

I loved the boat ride to MK. We also have taken the boat over to the Contemporary to hop the monorail to the TTC and then get on the EPCOT monorail. It is a longer trip than the bus ride, but it is fun. Or you could do it in reverse, expect take the monorail back to MK and the WL boat from there.

We rented bikes and road over to FW. I've read that others walked over there and then took the FW boat back to WL. That sounds like fun.

Enjoy

We chose a woods view and requested the 6th floor on the side facing the Magic Kingdom. It was quiet and we were able to see the fireworks from our balcony! Enjoy the atomsphere. WL is one of the best themed resorts on property (IMHO). Be sure and eat at Whispering Canyon sometime - and ask for a straw or ketchup

Some of the courtyard views are facing the Villas overlooking the Villa pool. I prefer the rooms that overlooks the Silver Creek Fall & WL pool, but the other view is quieter. FYI - my understanding is that requests must be made at the time of your reservation. You can call to update your reservation with your request. Also the fewer requests, you make the more likely you will be to get what you want. You would have a better chance of getting your request for a room facing the WL pool on an upper floor non-smoking than if you got real specific with a room number or specific floor.

We also have gone to Epcot via the boat to the Contemporary and then the monorail. It's not fast, but it's fun. Once when we did the reverse from Epcot, we took the ferry from TTC to MK and then the boat to WL.

You can rent Searaycer (formerly mouse boats) at WL which are lot of fun. There are also "sleigh rides" from WL that you can reserve. It's a very quiet ride that's relaxing after a busy day in the parks.

For a quiet room away from it all, with a view of the quiet pool, the villas and to the left Fort Wilderness ask for Rm 6158. We have stayed there a few times and its very nice. We prefer a Woods view (MK) overlooking the bog in the back...Room 6032 is our favorite. It is near an elevator that will take you right outside the laundry and just steps away from the Roarin' Forks.

I'm going to agree with imamouse and say get ADR's for the Whispering Canyon... breakfast there is our favorite, but lunch and dinner are very good too.

I find that the more you stay at a resort the more likely they are to honor your request (but maybe thats just my feelings, I don't know). The last time we checked in very early (9 am) and got to pick out our own room from the map. :sohappy:
