I just checked on the Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom for our upcoming trip in late January and it's not offered. Any idea why? Is there any chance they might open it up later??

They may open it up later. Some times stuff into the new year isn't released until the new year. Idky they do this. It may just be that there wasn't significant interest so they cancelled it or that they are doing repairs on a part of it. There are a lot of dirt paths that are apart of it along with multiple enclosures so maintanence is quite common. call the tours number for more information. They will give you a definite answer. Wait times are usually very minimal when calling them.

Hopefully they just haven't released the 2015 dates yet. I took it in October and it was the best 3 hours spent in DAK. You won't need to bring a camera, both of your guides take photos and you are given access to the website where the photos are uploaded. The Kilimanjaro Safari ride doesn't do justice to the animals or the sheer vastness of the plain. Now if only Disney had some hands-on interaction with some of the animals....

@LAKid53 Good point about the camera. We didn't bring ours and we had 25+ pictures of ourselves on the trek along with many animal pictures. The guides do a great job with photos and it allows you to really enjoy the trek.

Also I wish they had more animal interaction too. We were able to feed the hippos but that was about it and each person only got like 3 pieces of food. However I'm good on staying above the alligators and not interacting with them! Hahaha.

@JoyE I have to call the tour number tonight for one of our friends who are going to Disney. I'll check then about the wild Africa Trek too.

When I checked in, I asked them if I was going to be able to pet one of the cheetahs - that was good for a laugh from the guides. Yeah, dumping a few leaves of lettuce over the cliff isn't my idea of direct interaction with animals. One of the giraffes got so close to our truck I could have petted him - and been thrown out of the park, for sure.
