Wife just told me...

We were sitting on the couch last night and my lovely and beautiful wife turns to me and says..."Ya know what hun? You give the boys and I so much. We are so lucky to have you. All you want to do is make us happy. Since Disney world is so special to you, let go again this year."

This upcoming trip would make is 3 trips in 3 years...I am beyond ecstatic! We have stayed at a value resort the last 2 times, its now time to step it up a notch. I am so torn because my heart tells me to go with PO (circa 1992) since that is the only mod I have ever stayed at as a kid. I was even tempted to book a deluxe but the wife said she is ok with a mod as long as we aren't staying at a value again.

This trip is going to be more laid back, I am planing on 4 days of park and 3 days of relaxing at the pool and DTD. With that being said, what mod would you all recommend as we will be soaking up the sun and chilling by the pool?

First, let me just say WOW! I wish my DH loved Disney as much as you....LOL! I would be saying "Honey, let's go" every 6 months (or less.)

I would go with PORS as my moderate of choice. The grounds are so nice, the food court is the best, the rooms are newly refurbed and they have both a main pool and quiet pools.

Congrats on your awesome wife and your upcoming vacation!

I'm a big PO fan, having stayed at FQ when I was little and again at RS this past November. I vote stay at RS - beautiful grounds, excellent food (and more variety for the kids) - but walk to FQ for their fantastic pool. Love how PO has the water taxi option to get to DTD, such a great change of pace from the busses. The DH and I did this and it worked out great.

What an amazing wife you have!!! Congrats I love when something like this just sort of happens, the oh hey lets go. What a fabulous family. As for relaxing and all, sometimes those are just the most amazing times!

I must admit yes, I have an amazing family; sometimes I sit back and work and think about how lucky I really am.

Here is a followup question. Seeing as PO will be our resort of choice this time around. What is the differences in FQ and RS? and when booking the trip we enjoy being close to the main building and buses, is this called preferred room? Is there a special part of the resort that you all would suggest to be close to those amenities?

FQ is much smaller with one pool and a smaller food court (although you can use PORS's pools and food court if you wish.)
If you choose PORS and have boys, you may want to consider the Bayou. The rooms are more rustic and you can request a building close to the food court and bus stop. The buildings closest to the food court are 14, 15, 16 and 18. Here is a link to the PORS resort map. http://allears.net/acc/portorleansmap.jpg

thank you so much! I appreciate all your help.

When we stayed at PO as a kid (1992ish) i only remember it being one resort, not split up between FQ and RS. Am I thinking correct here?

Im not saying this because Im a super duper CSR fan  lol but I find CSR to be the quietest and most relaxing Mod. You often see people saying it is almost like a Deluxe resort because of its amenties, Not to mention a 22 person hot tub! so if you want a deluxe experience for a moderate cost, CSR it is.

But, since you said you would be hitting DTD quite often, I would recommend POR, since it is much closer and has multiple pool options like every other Mod. And they have a lot of other activites to do right at your resort! Like carriage rides and live entertainment giving you lots to do on your days of relaxation!:D

My family loves PO - I don't think you can go wrong with either side. We stayed at POFQ a few years ago and loved it! It's very quiet, the pool has a fun theme, and you can get beignets in the cafeteria (soo good!). Next time, we are trying POR because we thought the area was beautiful, and we wanted to try a Princess themed room for DD. They are close together, and you can use amenities at either one. So for me, who loves walking, I am happy with either side!

If you plan on spending a lot of time at DTD, PO is a great choice because you have the ferry that will take you directly there.

Like you, we stayed at Dixie Landings when I was a kid, and now I just can't picture staying in another moderate. You can't go wrong with the nice pool and the water taxi to DTD. We would always request a room in Magnolia Terrace, and we pretty much always got it. That building is right next to a quiet pool, right next to the bridge to the main pool, and right across the parking lot from the East Depot bus stop. Convienient to everything! Some of the rooms are considered pool side, but I am fairly sure that the ones on the opposite side of the building are just normal rooms. It was always our favorite place to stay.

Yeah, that's pretty much the building I have my eye on. :)
