Why wasn't Soarin done in 3D?

Is there a reason that Soarin was not created in 3D? I know IMAX has 3D movies. I would think that would add so much to the depth and feeling of being high up. Maybe they didn't want people getting vertigo.

Talk about your sensory overload. People would freak out!

If they had done that i wouldn't have been surpised to see people not comming out of it alive.

It doesn't need 3d. Heck, it feels like that golfball is coming straight at you as it is. I've never seen a 2d film be so immersive. 3d would have just been an extra added, and unneeded, expense.

Heh, one of the first things I thought wafter riding it my first time was.. "Man this would be so much better in 3d". Soarin is just a flipped version of those old cinema 180 theaters from the 70s/80s. Guess thats why i was let down ;)

The viewing angle varies so greatly from one part of the theater to the next that I imagine the parallax would become distracting.

I'm also not sure if IMAX's dome projection systems can accomodate 3D projections. All of the 3D projection systems I'm aware of exist on regular IMAX screens.

I just got back from WDW an hour ago and Soarin ended up being one of my new favorite rides!! I just loved everything about it, however, I am prone to motion sickness and did feel a little off balance when I got off, so I don't think that I would have been able to do it if it was 3D. As stated before, the ride is perfect just as it is :)

I'd love it if it was 3-D. Then kicking Michael Eisner(he's the golfer whose ball heads right for you) would be much more satisfying.

I've never ridden Soarin' yet but from what I can gather I think 3-D would have been an awesome idea but it would have probably added a load more expense to a ride that didn't necessarily need it.

Simply does not need it.

I am glad it was not in 3D. That would be unnecessary, and like others said, probably cause motion sickness (which Soarin does not do very much at all now, which is a big plus for many guests). I think it would be less realistic in 3D.

Holy thread-bump, Batman!

(Just a side note to the new member: it's generally frowned on to dredge up such an old thread (more than 4 years old!), especially if you're not adding anything significant to the discussion)

I'll add...I heard it was because of the shape of the screen.

True. It's a curved screen, which would make the 3D process considerably more complex... if it's even possible.

I'm also trying to imagine the sound of a pair of 3D glasses falling 30 feet to the hard ground below. :lookaroun Disney likes to reuse those things, you know.
