Why was Countdown to Extinction changed to Dinosaur?

I don't care what management wants to calls it. It will always be Countdown to extiction to me. Also, I didn't even know they cahnged the name until I went there this summer and rode it five times because it was raining that day and that and It's Tough to be a Bug we the only things open.

I loved CTX as a name. And yes it was toned down some from the CTX profile and you can tell this the most during the opening sequence and the turns. But it's not as tame right now as it was when Dinosaur first opened. I was almost speechless when I walked off Dinosaur the first time because it was so tame. But I guess enough people complained and that got changed quickly.

If the ride was toned down after they gave the ride the movie's title it makes tons of sense. Because the Movie Dinosaur, is the most boring animated film I've ever seen in my life. 2 hours of dinosaurs walking across the earth while little monkies do a mating dance....wooo.

It was never "Toned down" or changed, it has the same ride profile since it opened. The show changed though and so did the ride audio.

That's not what I was told. And you can tell the turns are slower than before. It wasn't a big change, but I'm pretty confident there was some slight tinkering. Otherwise why did they drop the height requirement after the change?

I haven't been since AK's opening...but is that CTX an IMAX-sort of attraction?

I vaguely vaguely remember AK. I was like 12 at the time.

Told by who? Just another rumor spread by someone who thought it seemed different. They can change the height requirement whenever they feel the need to. It is more based on the restraint system than the ride profile. If they need to get their ridership numbers up, they can lower the limit so more people can ride.

CM's at the attraction told me that at the time of Dinosaur's opening (I'm pretty sure I was there the 2nd day it opened after rehab) and I believe someone else trustworthy on this site said that the profile can be tested and adjusted very easily if need be. Can't remember for sure.

Again, I'm not talking about huge changes either.

Everything storywise is the same. Some of the effects they added for Dinosaur no longer work (Green box on Aladar or really any of the green laser boxes for that matter).

Sorry, about the confusion, but that is one of the common misconceptions. The front line CM's (aka Operations) for that ride, only operate the ride, they really don't know what is going on Engineering wise, maybe some know some of the basic changes. So if some of them give out some bad info (maybe not on purpose) because someone else told someone else and they really guessed. So it becomes a fact. And then it gets repeated and repeated and everybody thinks that is what really happened. I feel sorry for the guests when that happens, because they don't know the difference. You assume that if you talk to a CM, that they all know the same thing, they don't.

I would say the full time CM's that have been for a while are the most reliable, because they really care about their jobs and are interested in getting the facts right, because they take pride in their attraction.

but it is hard to know who is who, it might be a CM who has only been there a couple of weeks, or a CR, CT, or college program or foreign CM. and there are just repeating something they heard.

Having said that, the ride profile cannot be easily changed or tested. It takes quite a while and I can assure you that the ride profile has not changed since 1998.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, yes Dinosaur is a toned down version of the original, it was toned down as part of the movie tie-in to lower the height requirement so more families with younger children could ride. (Dumb idea in my opinion.)

Old height requirement vs. new height requirement (as seen in the guidemaps):
July 18-24, 1999 map- Countdown to Extinction- 46 inches
August 27-September 30, 2000- Dinosaur- 40 inches

I'll take your word for it yen_sid1. It seemed that CM's were telling everyone that it was slightly toned down after the rehab and it certainly felt that way, but whatever :)

Okay. If you think you know so much? What exactly was toned down? And why would that have a effect on the height requirement?

It's just like Mission: Space. I remember riding it during previews, and my face would stretch back as if my insides were to come out. Two years later, the ride was not the same. Not the same G's, my face stays in place. It sucks. They shouldn't have to change a ride; if you can't handle it, don't ride. Simple as that.:hammer:

I has been confirmed that in fact, M:S has not been toned down.

Right. M:S seems to have different intensity every time I ride, so I think a lot of that has to do with where you sit and I guess it's not going to create the exact same forces every time.

And I know that sitting in the different rows at Dinosaur creates different experiences sometimes too, but that's not what any who think the ride was toned down is talking about.
