Why the hate for Little Mermaid ride?

To be fair traveling TV can also go for the subs as well. I guess the subs are less tv-y though. At least the subs it isn't as obvious.
True. I haven't been on or seen video of the Nemo Submarines, but I can't imagine it is nearly as amazing as the attraction it replaced. I know that the 20K ride was one of my favorites as a kid and it made me terribly sad when I went back a couple of times and had to stare at the empty lagoon just sitting there.

I'd say you need to hold your opinion till you actually see what's there. For me, I've been on the original subs for many years, and enjoyed them. It wasn't exactly an E ticket for me, but still fun. The current version is just as fun, if not more so. I'm still looking under water, I'm still seeing fake fish and divers floating around, and I'm NOT looking at fake mermaids and ice. It's a big win for me.

The nemo subs are a matter of opinion and experience kind of thing. Personally, after watching videos of the old subs, they didn't seem that great, so I don't mind nemo at all. I have a soft spot for nemo really. But I understand if someone else dislikes it. But the seas with nemo I really dislike.

I have a strong contempt for book reports. I think that if you don't have an original story to tell don't tell it. A few minute long story condensed from an 1hr+ one is bad, either tell a different, refreshing story, or don't tell it all. Just my 2 cents.

So, you don't go on many Disney attractions?

I mean, sure I do. I like Disney and Universal. Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, etc. All classics that aren't book reports. A ride can incorporate a previously told story without simply summarizing it.

The old 20K ride was definitely a better experience than can come across in the videos of it I've seen. You have to remember that we didn't have great consumer video quality back when it was in operation. 8mm and (if you were wealthy) 16mm film cameras had a little better chance of capturing the show scenes, but they were still limited. I'm sure the new Nemo overlay in DL is fine and maybe even quite good. The charm of at least the old 20K ride was that you really felt like you were going on an adventure with Captain Nemo, rather than watching a story take place through the portholes. Were the effects state-of-the-art? No, but the scenery was quite well-designed and most of the figures were effective. It was just a solid, fun experience that closed because it was low-capacity and difficult to maintain. I really miss it, but I understand the reasoning behind its closure in WDW.

I really wish they's bring 20k leagues back. For all of the love Magic Kingdom gets from the fanbase, you think they would make an effort to give it equal attractions to Disneyland.

No way it's ever coming back to MK, alas.

I think MK and DL each have their own things that are positives. Each has its own attractions that the other doesn't have. We have CoP, Country Bears, 7DMT, the Peoplemover, Laugh Floor and also a much larger physical space. DL has more dark rides, with Pinocchio, Alice, Mr. Toad, Roger Rabbit, Indy, the subs as well as a much better Pirates.

Wait. You're right. DL does have better stuff than the MK. :( We have two more parks than California does, though, even though the Studios are still half-closed for the next year or two. I'd much rather have Epcot and Animal Kingdom than DCA.

Yeah :/ I mean, Magic Kingdom is no slouch, but Disneyland has more attractions. A better Pirates, Matterhorn, Submarine Voyage, Indiana Jones, the dark rides, etc. They should update MK to DL's level as far as attractions go.

However WDW is obviously a better resort, We have 6 parks (includes water) opposed to their 2. Disney's Animal Kingdom is fantastic and has only been getting better since opening day (for the most part). Epcot is a great idea and soon will hopefully be restored to its former glory. Studios is a half day right now but pretty soon it will get better. Give it 5 years or so.

I wish that they're could be a cooler sub ride than nemo. Any ride will do. Personally, I like alantean encounter the most, but that will also never happen.

Yeah, unfortunately though we might be stuck Mermaid for good, maybe if we're lucky we can get a similar attraction in Adventureland (which would be fitting imo).

I'm not a big fan of the Little Mermaid ride in Fantasyland. I like the Little Mermaid and had high hopes for this, and really did try to give it a chance as I've ridden it multiple times.

Disjointed storytelling, cut corners in quality (except the queue), cheap looking animatronics, wrong ride system used (omnimover moves too slow and doesn't allow for clear transition between scenes)- and not to say vintage rides can't hold up today, but in a bad way, this feels like something they would have made in 1989 when the LM first came out. And if this had indeed been built in 1989, I feel it would have already been refurbished by now.

We all love it. Often ride it multiple times a day......usually it has one of the shortest lines in the park.
Let's keep it that way😜

I think the problem is that the ride is an omnimover. Yet the scenes seem designed more for a bus bar (moving faster through smaller scenes) or trackless (more playful and exploring big scenes).

Omnimovers move slowly through scenes allowing you to observe while not necessarily being a part of what's going on. A great ride system. But the scenes either are too simple or short for how slowly you go through them, or too big and inviting to just slowly observe as you pass by.

Ominmovers obviously has the best capacity. But the scenes as designed just don't lend themselves to an omnimover.

It's a little issue. Not super noticeable. But it leads to a lot of small issues or makes small issues more noticeable. Or just leads to a slight off feeling in your subconscious.

About the only legitimate criticism I could level is it is a D ticket billed as an E. It is one of the better dark rides in Fantasyland, but it is not on par with something like HM or PotC.

Or Snow White's Scary Adventures, for that matter.

I don't hate the Mermaid ride, but like others have said, it's underwhelming. It's obvious they put a lot of money into it. The queue area suggests they expected it to be more popular. The ride is basically a retelling of the story, which is fine. However, there are parts of the ride that don't flow too well. Parts go too quickly, other parts go too slowly, and there seems to be quite a jump or rush to the end scene.
