Ever since the changes to the forums evrything is running really slow. Sometimes I have to refresh a page a couple of times just for it to come up. I love the changes, but it is driving me bat ____*t. Can anyone help?

I noticed that the holiday banner was causing some slowdown for me, but I assumed it was just temporary, and it was. Having no troubles now.

It took 20 seconds for this screen to pop up after I hit "reply".

I know that I have Stone Age technology here (Win 98, Explorer 6.0), but pages loaded faster with the older software.

With the older stuff, I could delete the photos at the bottom of the page that seemed to slow me down. Is that possible with the new software?

I've noticed a reduction in speed too. I have been looking to see if there is something else up with my PC. I used to open multiple threads in separate windows then work my way through them, but now it seems to stick for a while when trying to switch from to the other.

I'm running Windows XP home with all the critical updates applied and Internet Explorer 6, again with all the critical updates on a cable modem

Win XP Pro with all critical updates, through Opera 7.23.3227 and a cable internet connection. It's equally load to slow with Mozilla and IE6.

It's literally impossible to load on a Mac with Safari over at Pauls. The browser chokes.

I have noticed this on other forums that use the new forum look. I think it has something to do with the icons/images (mostly icons). I noticed IE 6 is better than Netscape 7, but not by much.

I am sure it is hard to track down - and I think the problem may not be on your end and just how the new stuff loads in the browser. Have you got any other styles in the works - perhaps a different style will give better results?

I'm using Firefox 0.9.1 on XP (1.6Ghz Athlon, 512Mb Ram, 128Mb GeForce2), and having more than two tabs open slows the browser right down. I'm currently getting between 10-50% CPU time in task manager.

I don't think it is VB3, because I am fine with other (much larger) VB3 forums, so I am looking suspiciously at the flash banner... :lookaroun

i'm looking suspiciously at the toolbar and the photos at the bottom. I had slow loading on the old forums when these 2 things were in the page, and currently have no problems loading other VB3 forums without anything extra.

Can we get to option to have these removed again Steve?

Could you tell me what Operating System, Internet Browser and PC Spec you have? Thanks.
I have cable and use IE. The computer is a bit old. I still have windows 98, but this is really the only site I seem to be having a problem. Sorry about the trouble.

I have also noticed a problem with the menus - has anyone else seen this? The menus take a long time to load.

Sorry to be throwing all this at you, Steve! Eventually we can narrow down where the problem is and we can work on that.

The new forum is reasonably client-side CPU intensive. The flash animation, the toolbar, the photoalbum preview does have quite an impact on performance. In testing however, using reasonable spec PCs (P4 2Ghz, 256MB, WinXP, IE6), pages are appearing with about a 1 to 2 second delay, which I concluded was a reasonable delay for the enhanced look and features.

Unfortunately if using a PC that is a couple of years old, or lower spec, you will find the enhanced features causing slow performance. In this case, I would recommened using the BLUE DAYLIGHT WIDESCREEN EXPRESS Style, selected from the bottom left of the screen. This will reduce the number of onscreen elements, and will therefore increase the speed of browsing the forum.

I have two machines:

WinXP and Firefox 0.9.1 at work,
iMac and Safari at home.

Since the upgrade to the new forum software, the load times on both machines have increased dramatically, with Safari being a little bit faster. On my Windows machine, I actually have to stop the page from loading and refresh it before it will come up sometimes.

I love this site enough to put up with it, but it is highly annoying. The Blue Daylight Widescreen Express setting didn't make much of a difference for me.

Seems to work for me! Thanks for that.

If Express isnt loading almost instantly, you have a problem there. Could you run this for me and let me know what you get? http://www.lantek.co.uk/speedtest.asp

What spec of PC is it? CPU, Memory etc

The widescreen express has speeded things up considerably, but I still notice that I ahve a bit of a problem still with the menus and the quick reply box.

PS Anything we can do about the colors - is there an option somewhere for that I can change?

I tried to run that performance test, but it didn't work. It just gives me a "Performance test in progress screen" and doesn't do anything.

My machine is an Athlon 700 with 384 megs.

Excellent, I just stumbled across this thread and it has solved all my problems! :sohappy: I'm currently using my 400MHz Athlon with 256Mb RAM because my laptop is off being fixed - despite the large amout of RAM (for the processor anyway!) you can still hear the cogs turning in this "Piece of Poo" ™ :D
