Why so much hate on Hollywood Studios?

It's Disney and we love it... but with that said, Hollywood Studios is our least favorite of the four parks. We usualy spend about a half day and then it's off to somewhere else on property.:sohappy:

I was just thinking about the park yesterday because I picked up an old planning video at a garage sale. I think it was from 1995. Disney MGM looked so fun then- especially the tour. They actually filmed shows there then and you could watch. The tour should be the centerpiece of the park and really now it is a joke. In my opinion they need to bring back the working studio aspect. Why can't they film some if those ridiculous tween Disney shows in Florida? I never visited until 2003 so I missed the heyday. After seeing the video I just was sad I never got to see it as it was designed. That park needs the most help by far.

I personally would rather go to Hollywood Studios as opposed to Epcot, which I think is the boring park. Some of my favorite rides are at HS; Tower of Terror and The Great Movie Ride are two of those plus The Little Mermaid show is one of my favs as well.

My fiance and I went to DW in March and it was his first trip. We did spend a full day at HS, but only because we saw EVERY show they offer. We still had time to do every ride except TSM (3 hour wait and no fast passes), which we came back for the next day.

Hollywood Studios is my least favorite of the 4....but I still don't have much trouble spending a whole day there. I loved the Backlot Tour at one time, but that was back in the 90s....the last time I was on it it was pretty bad. If I were seeing it for the first time today I have no idea how I'd react to it. Not a huge fan of the shows at the Studios (I do not like Lights Motors Action at all). I could ride RnRR and ToT multiple times though so that makes up for some of it, and I still love Muppet Vision

After my rant I had to sit back and really think aboutwhat has been said. I came to the conclusion that I was right the first time. The park is called Hollywood Studios. Everyday it seems it loses a little more Hollywood and the studios are long gone.

I think like many things at WDW it is like another poster mentioned in another thread.... "That toothpaste is already out of the tube" I think that what once was the MGM Studios will never to be seen again. What disturbs me more is that even in this thread people are still screaming for more E Ticket rides. Like this will somehow cure all the ills of this park. If you want nothing but thrill rides why not go to the many parks across the country that specialize in just that. Where themeing means very little.

Do you really think the "Magic" that is spoke about on these boards have much to do with E Ticket rides? In some ways it isnt even TDO's fault. So many people want instant gratification. They dont want to slow down and notice the atmosphere. Maybe TDO is giving them exactly what they want....stand in line for an hour for 90 seconds of thrill and just move on to the next thrill. For me I developed an love affair with WDW, I loved all tthe nuances, it was all more then skin deep. There were layers to explore. Now the we are losing the layers year after year till one day I fear it will all be superficial.

Look at all the new ad campaigns Disney has put out recently.....Let the memories begin! They are shooting for the new guest..... the first timer. They figure they have me lock stock and barrel. The thing is....they have me for now, I will give them the benifit of the doubt.....for now. Disney dosnt know how close they were to losing me this January. I was real close to booking a cruise instead......and not a Disney cruise.

My family and I have a real love for MGM, it is my favourite park, but i do agree that disney need to show it some love. When we go to the park its a whole day park and we have done the park the same way basically from the first time we visted in 1998. The only main problem I have with the park is that i miss the nighttime fireworks, Fantasmic i really can not be annoyed waiting for anymore.

I don't understand why so many people complain about Hollywood Studios. True, it's not nearly as good as EPCOT or Magic Kingdom, but it is still extremely fun and well worth the trip... at least for us. The rides and shows are well worth my time, and tere is some under-rated stuff like the drawing with an animator class, and I actually ENJOY the Backlot Tour! It's cool to see all those props and costumes. I don't think people give that park enough credit. Am I alone!?

It would be nice if some of the some merchandise in the Studios had an Art Deco theme in relationship to the Deco building facades :(

HS used to be my favorite park. My hobby is drawing and loved it when it was a working studio and you could go in and see a project at work. I don't care for the car stunt show and disappointed that it took away from the backlot tour. And they also got rid of 4 For a Dollar, so I don't go to Beauty and the Beast anymore. So now after I ride my favorites like RNRC, ToT, TGMR I can leave the park. I have seen Fantansmic enough that if I have time I will go to it, if not it's no big deal.

But I still like the park. It's just not my favorite anymore.

Just my thoughts

When I was a kid, I hated Epcot.. funny now, because it is my favorite park and probably the one I visit the most when I go to wdw. I can spend so much time in Epcot and still not do it all.. I love the atmosphere, World Showcase, and the park music... it really hits home for me and I truly feel like I'm in wdw. DHS doesn't do that for me.. it is usually a half day park.. get there at opening, leave around noon, and come back at night for EMH, but thats about it.

Agreed - when I was younger I despised Epcot because it was "educational." Now it's also my favorite. DHS has always been in the middle, and will probably remain there. I love Fantasmic (despite its current condition) and I'm partial to thrill rides; I just wish there was more to do. I could spend all day in Epcot and never feel bored, but DHS I can easily knock out everything I want to do in a short period of time. DHS doesn't have the "atmosphere" as much as Epcot does, so I just jump from attraction to attraction, and I'm done.

My family really loves DHS but always says that the original backstage tour through the animation facilities and on out to the trams for the ride to catastrophy canyon via the back lot with it's houses is sorely missed.

This was a high-light of each DHS visit.

198 days to VWL :wave::wave:

I love the Tower and RnRc at DHS and we always go straight to them for me to ride them at least two times each and eat at Mama Melrose's then skip over to Epcot or MK. While I like DHS and will always go there, for us it's not an all day park like Epcot or MK.

Maybe now that I have a young child we will spend more time there.

This is such an interesting topic and one i loved reading all of the responses. I can see both sides of the coin for sure. On one hand, I can see how people become so frustrated with it.. all that potential, the lack of true rides, things like the ridiculous Sounds Dangerous, etc. On the other hand, the theming, RNRC, TOT, the street performers... that's all fantastic.

For our family though, we absolutely love it. I will agree it could use more and hope in the near future some big rides begin to pop up (Monsters?). But on any given week-long trip, we're spending 2 days here min. We try and see all the shows, ride Toy Story as much as possible. The kids love the Honey I Shrunk the Kids. We love Hollywood & Vine, Mama Melrose, the Writers Stop and of course Starring Rolls :slurp:. F! is a must-see show for us. And I love trying (Trying is the key word) to draw the characters in the shade/AC while the kids get autographs and pictures. We also find the shopping here wonderful.

I never hated Epcot, but it definitely was my least favorite at one point. I absolutely love Epcot now. My parents and other adults in the group always wanted to go through the World Showcase and I just did not get it.....I get it now though.

I love DHS. It's my favorite park (at least, until the FLE opens). It has a great ambience, it's visually appealing, has comfortable seats and nooks to relax in, and some of the best rides and shows in WDW. My only gripe is that it seems unfinished in some areas. Just what the heck are the Streets of America supposed to be, anyway? I've never quite figured that out.

I guess I should edit that.. because I never "hated" Epcot either.. it was my least favorite park as a kid. I didn't get it either.. I do remember liking the whole passport thing when I was about 8 years old.

I really do think that there is truly so much more potential for this park. Is there any way to talk to disney and convince them to help it out or at least voice your opinion?
