Why No Twin Beds?

I know that twin beds have been phased out of almost all hotels/motels in the US, but wonder why hotels haven't started adding them again, in light of the increased mobility of the physically challenged.

I thought about this on my recent stay in WL. My reservation was originally for one person, so they put me into a handicapped accessable room with a King bed. It had a roll in shower with a drop down seat.

This would have been a much better situation for my disabled mother, BUT I wouldn't want to share the bed with her; she has "accidents." As a former nurse, I'm also aware that this can be a problem for other disabled people, and that the person travelling with that person as caregiver is not always a spouse. These rooms could also be used by single travelers sharing a room who might appreciate a larger bathroom more than a Queen bed.

I work with some hotels in my line of business, and while I can't be 100% sure of this off the top of my head, but I think the W Times Square Hotel will use two twin beds if the room has two beds as opposed to one. But I think the main reason for this is just that the rooms are probably smaller and two double beds would mean no floor.

Twin beds in a motel? You can't be that old? I bet it has been at least 40 years since I saw a twin bed in a motel. I still remember full size beds, but I think the standard is 2 queens or 1 king nowadays and has been for at least 15-20 years. Why? Simple economics that's why. In the long run it's cheaper to have all the same so the housekeepers would not have to have different sheets, etc. for different rooms. However, I agree with you about the twin beds for the handicapped.
