Yeah so I am tremendous Tool.

Why isn't Rainforest Cafe on the dining plan. That's terrible!

I know, I know... it's not Disney owned or, whatever... but, neither is Planet Hollywood, Wolfgang Pucks... I mean, c'mon! I LOVE Rainforest Cafe'... but I'm a college kid, so... My gf and I had been trying to find a trip to Disney for like, 5 months, and then this finally came along and we knew we'd be set with it. That way we could come down, bring couple hundred each to spend for our own reasons, and not have to worry about food budget... and not have to worry about spending too much on food so not enough to buy gifts and what not. But, no rainforest...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :brick:

Man... this is like A-rod's name being announced at Fenway... the crowd does not like it!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I've just decided now.. I'm gonna make this a poll

WHO WANTS RAINFOREST??? (this doesn't matter)

Write a letter complaining to Rain Forest Cafe's corporate ownership explaining how you chose not to eat there and spent your money elsewhere because RFC decided not to participate in the Disney Dining Plan.

I guess Rainforest did not want to participate in the plan. Whether it's greed on Rainforest's part or greed on Disney's part by offering them a lousy cut I doubt we will know. Unless Rainforest has a reply ready for any complaints it may receive.

There are many other places to eat that are far better than RF, the restaurant seems to have gone down hill in the quality of there food. Since they have constant lines of people waiting for tables, I can see why they can afford not to participate (if that is what they decided).

If you are looking to save some money on food, you could have a late lunch at the sit down restaurants since most of the restaurants serve lunch until 4:00p. I've also heard that many restaurant's lunch and dinner menus are very similar, but at lunch you are paying a much less price. Also, the Plaza Restaurant in MK is really very good and not very expensive, everyone seems to forget about it. You can check out the menus and prices at www.allears.net.

Big Deal. You are not missing out on much. Any Disney restaurant is far superior to Rainforest Cafe. The reason RC had financial problems in the past and the reason that I still don't care much for the restaurant is their mediocre food. The food is just not that good. The atmosphere is pretty cool, but it does not make up for poor cuisine. Go to Ohana or Boma if those are possibilities (Ohana is great).:slurp:

I would probably pick anywhere to eat over the RainForest. The atmosphere is nice, but the food is not spectacular by any means and its overpriced.

Back a few years ago like 6 or so we got to have a free breakfast at rainforest, back when tonga toast was FAR superior to any tonga toast that disney makes. the breakfast included a hot drink (anything they had) a cold drink (again anything off the menu non alcahoilic but the smoothys are expensive) an entree and a side dish. the breakfast for 2 was $60 plus tax and tip. that was all free. im assuming they dont do it anymore because of them losing money on that promotion. but thats jsut a guess.

The basic dining plan offers 2 meals a day, plus a snack.

Most people eat 3 meals a day.

Let me see...carry the 9...round down to avoid estate taxes...don't forget the 4 dollar rent for landing on Baltic Avenue...

This gives you one meal a day to eat anywhere else you like, regardless of whether or not it's on the Disney Dining Plan.

Enjoy the Rainforest Cafe. :D

It would be nice to see a sit down restaurant near Animal Kingdom on the Disney Dining Plan, and Rainforest Cafe seems to be the only option.

Yes they are, but I think what Richie248 meant was it would be nice to have a sit down restaurant in the AK park itself, so you don't have to travel somewhere and because RF is located right at the front of the park you don't have to get on a bus to get there. It is most unfortunate that there food isn't like it used to be, it was really good at one time, such a shame.

We found for us that two is sufficient with some junk food snacks in between. When we ate three full meals a day we felt like bloated pigs by the end of the week and couldn't stand eating anymore.

I would agree that the quality of the food at Rainforest Cafe has diminished quite a bit. We tried the one here in Vegas and it was even more mediocre than the one at Downtown Disney. All those types of restaurants (i.e, Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, etc.) offer average or lower quality for a highly inflated price and are a waste of time after the first time novelty has worn off.

Me, too. I was just pointing out that there's nothing preventing anyone from eating at RC even if it's not on the dining plan.

Plus, if memory serves, the dining plan covers each night you stay in a WDW hotel, NOT each day you're at the resort. Either that, or you don't have to get the dining plan for every single day you're there. So if you're there for 7 days and 6 nights, you still have a day where you could eat from restaurants not in the DDP.

In would be ideal to have the restaurant inside the park, but Richie's question as written asked about a place "near" Animal Kingdom, hence my thinking of Boma or Jiko. And let's be honest, zebra domes are worth a couple of minutes on the bus :slurp:

Well I'm glad I stuck up good conversation

I started the thread out of pure boredom while at work, and just forget about the thread, only now to realized I got 13 solid replies. Also, because I was just looking and noticing random things about my upcoming disney trip... and noticed RC wasn't on the plan... I was hardly upset.

Yes, I wish it was, but, if it was, I don't think I'd eat there... there's one about 20 minutes from my house and I hardly even go there. I just like the RC and felt it shoulda been on there so I at least had the option.

Trust me, I've been to disney 14 times, going on 15... I know there's tons of places much better than RC, tons, but... it's a nice atmosphere, its fun... and its not over fancy like a few disney places are. Regardless of whether the food is free or not, I am a picky picky picky... cannot stress picky enough, I get HARASSED by all my college friends cuz when we go to the dining hall i usually have like... a plain turkey sandwich, plain spaghetti, or a bowl of cereal for dinner, in rotation...

so, anywho, RC is very plain and not fancy, which I like. And, like Rich said, its nice to have a sitdown restaurant actually in (well, at least at the entrance) Animal Kingdom.

I was serious though about the poll, because I was interested to see who else would enjoy it being on the list. I still think it should be, but if it was when i go in august... I might pass it up... :hammer:

Yes I was saying it would be nice to have a sit-down restuarant in the Animal Kingdom. The Rainforest Cafe is as close as one would get. I myself am not a fan of those theme type restuarants (Planet Hollywood Hard Rock etc.) So it would be nice to see what type of sit-down eatery Disney would develop. They did a great job developing the Animal Kingdom Lodge dining options so I always wonder what they would come up with if they were to develop sit-downs in the park!

Fair enough - have you made the trip over to Animal Kingdom lodge? The grub there is amazing. Even from the food court Mara.

I agree that some change should occur. The reason their food is subpar, in my opinion, has to do with the number of diners in the restaurant at one time and the number of menu items they have. Does anyone remember their menu - It is HUGE. I'm talking like 75 to 100 items. It's bad enough choosing. Many (not all) good restaurants are characterized by having a diverse menu of less than 30 items (they can change they menu weekly or monthly to keep guest coming). As far as capacity goes, I cannot see how the entrees could be consistent with that many diners and that many entrees. Cafeterias and buffets seem to cater crowds this large better than table service with large menus.
