Why is Stich everywhere?

Hello Everyone,

I just returned from a short weekend trip from Disney World. There is really no big news in this thread, just some complaining...

I did alot of shopping as this trip was my last for 2006. One of the items we purchased was the 35th Anniversary Magical Milestone Pins. I think this is a great idea as there are 35 pins to purchase ($350 later). Most of the pins have the retro logos (Figment, Epcot Center, etc). One thing that bothers me is Stitch on the 1987 pin. Stich was not arround in 1987. Why would Disney put him on that pin! He is on a few other years as well!

Anyone have any feedback...

Well, they seem to have tried to fit him into a lot of merchandise everywhere. Maybe because he's another few characters that can relate to boys and girls alike. I know I will always look for merchandise with Mickey first but I still love Stitch. Maybe his image is selling more than we know. :veryconfu

Stich is everywhere because comercialism tells the general public that he's the greatest and funniest character ever created, and the general public believes them, no matter how far from the truth that might actually be....sort of like Family Guy

No, some of us can think for ourselves and actually DO like Stitch. And, some of us even LIKE Stitch's Great Escape! (gasp!). I think he is a humorous and well-developed character (I loved the Monorail voiceover used up until recently. The "Are we there yet?" came just moments after one of my friend's daughters asked exactly the same question), who represents a new, quirkier style of Disney. I think he's a nice counterbalance to all that Princess merchandise. If anything, I'd say I'm more tired of that. However, I realize there's a market for Princesses, as well (and it holds up the more traditional side of Disney), so why not?

P.S. Can't stand "Family Guy." I've never found it, or another similar, older show - "The Simpsons" - the least bit entertaining. But that's just me...ignoring commercialism for personal taste.

Because Stitch is cute and fuzzy! And, I had never realized this but, yes Stitch does appeal to both genders (thanks for pointing that out!). Which is kind of big for Disney in my opinion. My 4 year old daughter loves him, and I myself can't wait to meet him. I totally get your historical accurracy perspective, but if all that we love about Disney is to survive, we must move forward while keeping traditions alive. Stitch is a great bridge between generations.

I love Stitch and Family Guy!!

You're right though, I was amazed at all the Stitch merchandise, I was thinking "They must LOVE him over here!" as I'm sure he's not that much of a popular charcter here. Winnie The Pooh on the other hand, he is EVERWHERE over here....

Oh man, how bitter are you?!

I like Stitch and his antics, he is a funny and interesting character.

Corporate suits work on numbers not creativity. Stitch was a successful film, a successful films equals good numbers, corporate suits like good numbers and will push them wherever possible - even if it's to self destruction via overload.

He even got in my avatar. And it was going to be such a nice picture of the train station.

I do still like Stitch despite the merchandise glut. He's one of the few plush that gets to sit out and be seen at my house. This reminds me of Roger Rabbit back in the early 90s. You couldn't go 5 feet without seeing him on something at Disney World. Though Stitch still wins for number of merchandise items.

The above explain why STITCh is so popular - he sell.

Why he appears on the 1987 pin is anybodys guess as you correctly state, he wasn't even an experiment at that time

Stitch was Disney's first successful original character in almost ten years. They tried making it into a cash cow but alienated a lot of people through overexposure. I wish they'd create a new original character so it would push Stitch (hopefully) into the background.

My least favorite Stitch tie-in was the Stitch wake up call. I do NOT want to be woken up by that voice. They should just stick with Mickey and I was to see last summer they were back to Mickey Mouse on the wake up calls :)

It's funny, I CAN'T STAND the Stitch ride, but I do like Stitch, he is so cute! My 2 year old has this Stitch t-shirt that says "Here comes trouble" and has matching Stitch shoes and evrytime I see him wearing the two, I think, "That's my cute little monster!" So I guess I have a good association with Stitch and perhaphs that is why I like him.

Nice sweeping inaccurate generalization.
Maybe for you, but there are a lot of people (myself and my son included) that actually like Stitch. We liked him before our first visit as a family in 2005 and continue to. We also liked his wake up calls. SGE was ok, not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be, but not Everest.

By the way, the most exposure to Family Guy I have had was the SouthPark episode trashing it.

I think it is cool seeing Stich everywhere. I also think that SGE is not that great and I thought that they should bring back AE instead of SGE. SGE to me is not like how I thought it was going to be like. SGE was not a kid like ride.

Well, I'm not that keen on stich, not even my kids like SGE. My nephew likes stich, bought a visor. I personally find him a bit grating..just a bit. I loved the movie Lilo & Stich, but I am ready for Disney to lighten up a bit.

People are buying products with Stitch on it, around it, in it, above it, over it, under it...and whatever else. Do you really think Disney would try to push Stitch on everyone if the masses were buying Nemo or Peter Pan products like carzy?

we think stitch is great even if his ride is one of the worst things disney has ever done. One thing we do is to keep to getting only alien stitch things (with all the arms out and such) and it makes looking for stitch things alot eaiser.
